Account wide achievements change [SUGGESTION].

So I posted the idea in an incorrect section ages ago (see http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/93090/universal-achievements-no-idea-where-this-goes-because-i-can-t-seem-to-find-a-suggestion-area#latest) but the suggestion still stands.

Basically if you achieve x achievement on y character any character on your account also has said achievement unlocked. Basically a shared achievement system.

Why? I have OCD (but not really) and the idea of sitting down to fish on all my characters because achievements aren't shared is sort of dawning on me.

The issue is dungeons have the potential to yield skill points and whatnot so that could be an issue (with the obvious answer being make those achievements character specific). That aside I don't see why not. Sure seeing a level 20 with an endgame achievement may offend some random individual, but hey, I think it's worth it.

The concept has probably been mentioned before, but eh, thoughts?

EDIT: Alas I forgot the poll and now there shall never be one :(.

People don't seem to get the concept that unlocking an achievement is different from progressing a skill line. Unlocking an achievement related to sky shards doesn't mean each new character will have each sky shard unlocked... simply the achievements related. Likewise, if there's a lore book achievement you'd simply get the title related to the achievement, if there is one, not a maxed mage's guild on new characters. You'd still need to gather lore books / sky shards / fight daedra to amass skill points and level guild skill lines respectively.

The bank like you said. If you want you can add guilds. I don't mind getting the achievements on multiple characters.

So sharing a bank is 'too much'? Really? What an amusing concept.

Anyways, enjoy fishing on numerous characters, waiting on those dungeon spawns, farming dark anchors in the hopes that the unique monsters appear and unlocking thousands of chests on just one character.

Those of us who are sane will be over here trying to convince ZeniMax otherwise.

I could take it or leave it either way. I'm used to games where achievements aren't shared, so the fact that they aren't shared here doesn't bother me. When playing other games, I usually try to get all the achievements on only one character, and don't bother on the others unless they have some sort of reward that is valuable to the character's progression.

If it account-shared achievements did get added though, I wouldn't be opposed, other than I think that achievements that provide skill points should be per character.

I believe the upcoming dye system is supposed to be based on achievements? Depending on how that is implemented, that might change my opinion on this.

The notion of grinding the same achievements on potentially 4 or more classes, some of which appear to take months, is pretty insane.
Tone is lost on the internet, I'm hardly insulting you, you just interpret my response as insulting, I find it amusing that you're saying no simply because there's already 'too much sharing'.
A shared bank is awesome, if there was no shared bank I'm pretty sure there would be countless topics asking for one.

You're entitled to your opinion and you say no, so be it. Odds are it will never happen anyway.

I've also played games where achievements weren't shared and, like you, focused mainly on one individual (the obvious 'main'). However, after playing GW2 a shared system is something I've become accustom with. That being said between GW2 and ESO I was dabbling in Wakfu and Dofus, both of which don't have shared systems (from what I recall), it's simply a convenience thing.

That's my general stance, shared achievements outside of those which result in a skill point. Obviously achievements which yield titles would also mean said titles will be freely available to any character on your account regardless of progression.

If anything that would make me want a shared system more.. But that's just me.

How is a shared bank awesome? I'm genuinely interested. If they add an individual bank tab then I'll be fine with a shared bank, but until then you have
1 no bank space for alts
2 needing to use alts as mules because there is not enough bank space
3 constant inventory management because you can't add things to the bank

I agree with @brandon, actually. Having a shared bank is nice and all, but if I had the choice between a shared bank and individual banks, I would much rather have individual character banks. (The best solution would be to have both though). I have a couple of alts I have been sitting on for awhile now because I don't have any bank space for their stuff, and likely won't play until I can upgrade my bank to a point that I actually feel that I can play them without frustration.

Same for guilds -- I can accept that this is a different game and all games are different, but it is still weird to me that guilds are per account and not per character.

Having all your materials in one place and being able to access said materials is pretty awesome. Having to rely on friends to give x material / gear / potion etc etc to y character is tiresome and requires a second individual. As it stands there is no way to trade between characters and the bank remedies this. I'm constantly out of space, yes, but I'm also constantly upgrading it. A person playing 2 characters with reasonable bag space on each shouldn't have too much issues. If there was a specific 'trophy' section I'd have about 20 more free slots.. but that's a different story.

Regarding the dye system? Yeah, I'm not sure. Part of me agrees and says "yes, should be shared!" especially if the achievements that grant dyes are especially painful, and part of me disagrees and considers it part of character progression like crafting -- besides maybe you could even have your main dye the armor for your other characters? Or maybe it will be locked behind achievement points. What the heck are achievement points for anyway?

Really depends on how they implement it.

I've rarely come across a game which doesn't have a shared bank system, so it's a normality for me. Managing it and whatnot is a challenge so I can understand people rolling with 3 characters finding the lack of space frustrating, but making that mule and regularly cleaning your bank should remedy this. Between my crafter (has about 160 slots) and my bank (about the same) I have enough space to be content. I'm in the process of levelling an alt while grinding away at my main (almost rank 8, joy), so it's a matter of not hoarding materials.

Coming from GW2 where guilds were per account, it's not unusual for me, but once again, I can understand it.

Yes, regarding the dye system. The issue with crafting is it's not overly complicated to hit level 40-50 on most, barring enchanting, with little effort. Achievements are a bit different, unlocking 1000 chests on one character to get the awesome dye is a pain, having to do it 5 times would completely eat away at my soul. Having the ability for a character who has 'unlocked' the dye change the colour of the armour and give it to another character would be silly. If that did occur I don't see why account wide achievements wouldn't be a thing, as that's basically what's happening. You're skipping x (achievement) on y (character) and still get the benefit of z (the dye). If people are against account wide achievements they should also be against account wide dyes, or characters being able to transfer dyed equipment between each other, which is essentially account wide dyes.

Like @Chatoyancy said It is similar to crafting styles a type of progression.

What? I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
Bank upgrades are shared between all toons, investing in said upgrades is a good idea. Upgrading individual bags alongside horses also yields decent bag space.
Crafting is easy to progress, enchanting aside of course. But we we drift, this is about achievements, not bag space.

Normally, I make at least some effort to complete achievements in most games.

Ironically, NOT having account-wide achievements in this game has left me with no desire whatsoever to even pursue achievements.

I play 8 different characters in this game. The games designers made a decision to re-use content for the VR ranks. I am all for having it as an option for those players that love and adore their single lone character. However, no alternative content is in the game for those with multi-characters. I have no desire to pursue anything in Veteran as it currently stands, which also basically means I won't ever get more than 1/3 of the achievements on any one character.

I'm not sure how the achievement system will work with the dye stuff, but I doubt you will need to obtain all achievements. You wouldn't need to open 1000 chests just go for the easier achievements. Again I don't know how it will work I could be completely wrong, but until we know further that's all I can say.

If the dyes are tied to certain achievements, like 'unlock 1000 chest for extreme shiny purple dye!', it would be pretty counter productive for them to implement as system which basically says "okay, now that you've unlocked this particular dye on this character, said character can now change the dye of any armour and give it your alt!". That in itself is basically account wide achievements minus the account wide aspect. Max out one 'main' character and on your 'alts' simply do the challenges which give skill points.
If you're against account wide achievements you'd be against that as well.

I would like shared achievements. At the moment you would need one char to do pvp and all of pve including trials and dungeons to get every achievement. If you would have it shared it would firstly make alts more useful and you could have char to do pvp only, pve only and maybe one focused on group stuff. That is my opinion.

It is indeed an accomplishment to earn the achievement and the future hypothetical associated dye. However, if you can give said coloured dyed gear to any of your characters simply by dyeing it on the character which has it unlocked, that seems like you're 'cheapening' the accomplishment associated with the achievement, as it appears one shoe fits all as opposed to everyone earning their own shoe sort of thing.
Ultimately we'll see how the dye system is implemented. If it's 'unlock on x via achievement but x can make it for any character' I'm going to be a bit bemused as an account wide achievement would have done the same thing but would have been more convenient to players.

Question! If achievements were shared, how much of the achievement would be shared?

    1. Would/should progress toward an achievement be shared among characters? For example, if the achievement is "destroy 50 Dark Anchors" and character A destroyed 30 and and character B destroyed 20, would they get the achievement, or would a single character have to destroy all 50?

    2. Achievements that require other achievements. If character completed Hero of the Aldmeri Dominion and Cyrodiil, character B did EP, and character C did DC, would they get the Tamriel Hero achievement?

I don't know how other games have designed their shared achievement systems.

I know peoples interests are different. But one thing is a fact. ESO chosen to go against the mainsteam. NO AH, limit your bags pace, so you dont have everything, stuff gets hard as low as lvl 8 with the Doisha fight.

On and on and on. Pretty much all things in ESO requires dedication, interest, skill, luck, and lots of other stuff that most MMOs today dont require.

I do not have an alt yet, but when I make it, I already know its going to be a complete different experience in the same areas as I did growing up with this char.

I was assuming x character can semi complete a challenge with y character able to pick off the remaining few objectives.
    1. Pretty much this, combined characters can completed achievements which require killing multiple things, unlocking multiple chests etc etc, cumulative stuff. Obviously achievements which simply require you to complete a quest line any one can do.
    2. That's a tricky one, my answer would be in the grey, as the achievements have been completed. So ultimately if you make 3 alts for each faction and complete said factions you could receive the Tamriel Hero achievement, however there could be specific achievements which are 'locked' and a certain character needs to complete all the requirements to 'unlock' it. In this instance the achievement dialogue would change to 'Complete x, y and z faction content on one character', so while you completed x and y on one character alongside z on another you need to do all 3 on one individual to get the achievement.

In most games 'main' story stuff doesn't consist of going to enemy factions! But for GW2 you had to complete x y or z part of a quest for x y and z race in order to get the achievement unlocked. It's a bit complicated.

Capitalising certain words doesn't make your argument more valid.

Because if features from other games work and prevent hundreds of hours fishing the same thing on 6 characters, I'm all for it.

    So do I, I don't see how that's irrelevant.

For you perhaps, I know several people who will simply complete achievements on their main and ignore them on their alts while hoping there's a loophole around the dye system.

I don't see how a shared achievement system has any impact on the game's difficulty, it simply reduces the grind by several thousand hours, repeating the same content and growing frustrated at waiting for an hour for a mini boss spawn.

The Doisha fight has been fixed, once again, game content is different from the achievement system. I'm not saying nerf anything, simply make things less of a task.

Um, I disagree, all MMOs required dedication, interesting, skill, luck and all that jazz.. I don't know what MMOs you've been playing.

Well when you make 3 characters get back to me about achievements.. you seem to be discussing a different topic all together it seems.

All decent MMOs make you work for your stuff.. However repeating content 5 times simply to unlock an achievement on your characters is silly.

    Cool?
