Exaggerated Numbers - An Inquiry

You know how it goes.

"ZOMGZ I GOT GANKED BY A GROUP OF SEVENTEEN".... was really two
"THEY HAVE 40 GUYS UP IN THERE DROPPING OIL"... was really five or six multipotting
"WE TOOK DOWN 20 GUYS WITH JUST THE FOUR OF US AW YEAH"... was really just five guys killed and was actually with a group of 24.

As a nightblade I am almost always the first on scene, usually scouting ahead, vampire sneak, full speed horse, etc. Zone chat lies. Lies bad too. Why do people always double or triple actual figures?

"DC HAS 40 COMING FOR ROE, OMG OMG OMG DEFEND ROE"... its really just like 10 guys total and half of them level 20.

Its not just in zone chat, the forums are riddled with it.
Ive even had Guild leaders telling us that we outnumber them 2-1 when they have actually got another guild guesting into help them, when we are on our own.

Its the go-to excuse for getting beaten.

What actually set me off on this was a claim in another thread of "100+" people somewhere.

Man 100 people dont even pvp in this game anymore (yeah i know, exaggeration) but in all seriousness, I have not seen a 100 man zerg in this game since January beta.

Im just glad I was here for that, when we had REAL population. A claim of 50, 100, even 120 was a serious claim.

It does go the other way too.

5 guys outside the keep, so when you go out to kill them it turns into 12 as the other 7 of them are invis stealthing.

Maybe its time to leave your dead campaign? One side being almost spawn-camped while having "locked" population = more than 100 man zerg in one place. Pity its unlayable though.

I don't think I've seen a group of less than 10 in days. Usually 50+. What campaign are you in? Sounds like I should jump in there. I'm looking for some smallscale stuff. I just can't find it in Wabba any more.

pvp math, i think it is base 6.

8 is 12, 12 is 20, 20 is 32, etc.

Lying about the numbers doesn't help your side at all.

Calling false numbers in zone might pull people off an important objective to try and intercept those numbers.

On the other hand counting accurate numbers while dead and relaying that information can help your faction determine where the bulk of the enemy currently are on the map and help determine the next target.

You mean like the claim that a group of 12 AD wiped 140???

Yea lot of that going around. We had a person on our zone chat not too long ago where we used to joke to divide his number by 3 to get the actual number of people.
