Why Duels and Arenas would be a mistake

there are no 1v1 fights in the game, it is not balanced for that. pve is mobs, bosses have mobs, cryodiil is groups, people gank in teams. 1v1 is not a valid way to test builds in this game because it is not a part of this game; it can only serve to make the gap between classes even larger.

Erhm.....I think you guys are missing a tiny little detail...

ESO is not a 1-1PVP game. IT is a storyline based MMORPG, where one part of many is waging war against your enemy alliances. WARS.....not arenas.

True, its more or less impossible anyway because of balance of builds......but still. It has no place in ESO.

MAYBE a challenge ring in the coming new capital city, where the winner, wins GLORY. No points, no score, no gear, the glory and title, champion of the ring or something. Which would be one of 1000 things you can do in the game.

I am sorry, but WoW type of PvP, 3v3 or arena, whatever you call it. With scoreboards, points, whatever. Wildstar is that game. Not ESO.......

If someone havent figured that out by now, that ESO is not about 1-1 pvp.....then that person will keep be very bored and unhappy in ESO.

Guess why there are lots of very happy level 30, or lvl 24, who plays the game a lot, keeps playing and dont even know these forums exists?

Because they play ESO......they are not playing battlegrounds....

    Rubbish!

ESO is an Elder Scrolls game, which started with a game named 'Arena'... Which by the way was long before WoW and any MMORPG should have dueling. If nothing else then to practice skills.

Also, like it or not arena's are coming.

From experience I know the following three things regarding duels.

    1. They are rarely ever done for actual testing, nearly all duels are caused by someone being butthurt over losing a fight and demanding to get their honor back by beating their killer. Its a revenge thing.

    2. They lead to naming and shaming in both global chat and on forums/other media.

    3. They lead to nerf calls and constant whining for skill X to be changed and skill Y to do something different so the loser of the duel can then "win"

Be careful what you wish for, because e-peen is a much stronger force than you give it credit for.

These are exactly the type of people we don't allow in our dueling guild.

I find this funny , so people saw in E3 a demo and from that , for some reason , thought arenas are already confirmed :P.

I have not seen the devs saying arenas are coming at all , if anything they went out of their way to explain that was a demo for E3 , not a future feature or anything.

So from where people get this notion that it will happen for sure?

You are correct sir. And these dualing are about honor, or testing your strenght.
Nothing about scoring, pvp gearing, ranking.

Pure honor, and I said, a challenge place for 2 fighters to battle who is the stronger. In a public place, where you earn honor, and maybe a title....that belongs in ESO.

What people are asking for, is a battleground/arena a la WoW. That does not belong. And again, for those who are interested in that, there are other games that offers this.

You have a point about duelling for sure.

Arena wise or Pitfight or whatever, to keep something alike it real it should not be something we would be able to do everyday whenever we see fit, server locked timed events spanding over maybe 4 hours on two pre set weekdays or something, would certainly bring up some kind of realismn... like a gladiator arena, please don't think I use the wording ala wow or whatever clone of that game... that would be just pathetic. lol

Would be something to think about though

Funny? What I find funny is people that doubt it. Yes they went to all the trouble of developing an arena, then showcasing it at one of the biggest games festivals all so they can avoid putting it into their game.

In fact, I doubt we see anything that we saw E3, I mean that's the point ain't it, to show the fans all the things they will never have...

If you are right, people should be pissed off! What the *** are they doing developing stuff they won't use when there are so many glaring issues at hand. What do you think we pay our subs for? Further development or so the devs can *** around with hobbies?

    Just saying...

NO rewards (or leader/score board crap, etc) whatsoever.
Well, maybe something without any real value like a special disguise.

I that case... bring it on!
