My horse will only eat skooma so he's pretty slow and his stam is reduced. He shakes a lot and never poops.

I use a Light Horse so I only put points in speed, and for my Imperial horse a mix of speed and carrying capacity

My Imperial Horse is 20 Stamina rest speed, will be going 30 Stamina rest speed for final stats.
Black horse with the same stats but should work out a little faster in the end due to the bas starting 20 stamina.

I plan in future to buy a storage horse for full storage which I can take out when I plan to farm materials or items.

I put it all in speed. I don't bother with stamina, not because it's bugged (which it isn't), but because it's not worth it for me.

Also, stamina on a horse does not mean how long you can sprint before it slows down. It means how much damage you can take ON your horse before you are thrown off. Test it out. If your bar is empty, any small hit will throw you off. If you're running and it's full, it acts like a health bar, so you'll see the stamina bar drop a great amount when you are hit while riding, but you stay on the horse.

Keep shift pressed once stamina out on horse and speed stays. Its bugged

Please read my posts again. It's working as intended. You are just assuming the stamina only means speed.

Do this. Run agro some mobs and sprint around them with your horse stamina full or near full. Then Agro some mobs when your stamina is empty, see what happens. The stamina bar means something completely different to horses than it means for a player. There is nothing wrong with the stamina for the horse, you're just ignoring the meaning behind it.

That's just not right about stamina. Try it out on a fresh horse and then one that has 10 points in stamina and you will see the difference. For instance on my new character, I can just about get from Devon's watch bank to the archway on the way to the crafting benches on full sprint with no points in speed or stamina. On my VR with 20 points in Stamina and 15 in speed, I get to the horse dude and then all the way to the crafting benches on one tank of stamina. You do know the more you put into speed, the quicker your stamina will drain, don't you? Its a balancing act getting it to the right balance of speed vs stamina, put less in speed and you will travel much further.

Not clear on what you are getting at here. Your stamina does not determine how long your horse can sprint, just on how much damage you can take within a certain time. The more stamina just mean the longer you can sprint on a horse while being attacked before being knocked off. Your stamina does go down when you sprint, but it's the same principle. Even if you max out your horse on stamina, you will eventually drain it to a point that even a level 1 mob can knock you off your horse.

Yes it does. New horse small bar, old horse with stamina invested=large bar. I'm not sure if yours is bugged but mine sprints for ages and then slow runs when its out. I didn't say anything about being knocked off because I cannot comment as I never get knocked off because I only use the horse in towns.

Then you are the only one this happens to. Everyone I've ever known never has had their horse speed stop when the stamina bar ends. I'll ask my guilds again, but as far as I can see, your horse is the odd one out and may need to be reported.

LOL I've seen people do that before and it looks like a circus trick!! But yeah i can sprint as long as i want to, along with many other people too. All i have to do is hold my shift key in and its infinite sprint.

I still think its not working as intended/bugged.

I take it back! I've just been online and check and I could run indefinitely. Not sure what's going on because a few weeks back, I couldn't. I think its gotta be bugged because it stands to reason that it would work like the character sprint.

That's exactly what I thought, which is why I'm still convinced the horses infinite sprinting is bugged. Yes stamina provides you with some protection before you get knocked off your horse, but if that were the only thing it was used for, why would stamina go down in the first place if it has nothing to do with the horse sprinting, ya know?

Because it clearly goes down when we sprint, so if the horse has infinite speed, the stamina bar should only be depleting if i get hit by things, and that is clearly not the case.

Wanted to see how people have been distributing their horses points and the likes. Am i able to just keep buying the 1gold imperial mount, and say use one for speed, another for stamina, and another for carrying capacity?

I wouldn't do it like so, but i already have a set where i have one horse purely for speed, and then i have 1 other purely for carrying capacity. Wanted to see how everyone else has been distributing points as well.

Stamina just doesn't seem to be worth it atm as it is bugged. Only thing it seems to be good for is not getting knocked down while running.

I put them into any of the 3 options. Why, does yours have different options besides speed, stamina and carrying capacity?

I think this is being caused by confusion over terminology, or maybe people being unaware that there are 3 modes for horses. I'm not sure what "sprinting" is, but you can just ride your horse without pressing anything (let's call this walking), you can hold down shift (let's call this running), and you can repeatedly press shift (let's call this galloping). These range in speed from the slowest (walking) to the fastest (galloping).

So running uses up stamina but, as you say, you can continue to do it even after you've run out of stamina, you simply risk being knocked off more easily. Galloping also uses stamina, though, and cannot be continued once you run out of stamina. If you want to be able to gallop for days, it's probably worthwhile to put points into stamina (I'm assuming stamina really does increase the size of the stamina pool, I've never tested this). So you have this situation where your horse may be faster galloping than someone else's running horse, even though that horse has more points into speed. I think this is where the balancing act comes in. Does putting all your points into speed make your run faster than any gallop? Does putting all your points into stamina make you gallop faster than any run? Is there a sweet spot that's a mix of both of these (as they obviously feed into eachother)? Does that sweet spot also depend on the distance you expect to travel?

I think this is about more than just getting knocked off your horse.

Um, galloping? I can try this out when I get home, but I believe you go slower when you keep tapping your sprint button to 'gallop' vs holding shift. Whenever I press the sprint button, I maintain that original speed, so I think the idea that tapping shift to go faster is a myth, and just a stamina burner.

That's how it feels for me as well. I don't feel any faster tapping shift instead of holding it in. Just wastes stamina at a faster rate.

I've found it varies, actually. Sometimes the speed drops, sometimes it doesn't - I'd also swear that its speed is different in Cyrodiil, but that may be because the spaces are much more open, so it merely "seems" slower.

To answer OPs question: I currently have two horses, one which I put in ALL for bag space and another which I have increased all of the stats in varying amounts (intended to be my "well rounded" horse so I can still get places faster but also have a bag space boost.) I was going to get a speed horse or a stamina horse at some point, but I am waiting til its more clear what is supposed to actually be happening re: speed/stamina. I liked the idea of having a VERY speedy horse (and also hoped at some point perhaps some player-held races might happen).

Also I named my main horse "Piscine" as an homage to its default name of "Fishystick" but with a bit of class added since he's well-bred and raised. :P

I've no idea what it would involve (as in, if its possible - both in implementation, and making sure people don't make *** horses) but it would be very nifty if we could apply its coat pattern, so there would be more variation in horse appearances. As in, some basic color selections and basic "brush" sizes so we can customize its coat. You'd have to keep the "brushes" kind of clunky or hazy to avoid *** horses and pot leaf horses and the like, lol.
