Are you in favor of an item/gold wipe due to imblance introduced by the duping exploits?

Musonius
Musonius
The recent guild bank duping exploit has, reportedly, allowed millions upon millions of gold and items worth the equivalent of millions upon millions more gold into the system. There are many reports on warez and hacking forums this bug was known before the end of beta and also reports of several more serious duping bugs, as well as less serious gold farming exploits. (Please do be very careful if you go to warez or hacker sites, I recommend using a virtual machine system that writes nothing to non-volatile storage if you do, to prevent you being hacked.)

This has the potential to completely destroy the game economy if this gold and items are allowed to stay in the system, so do you favor wiping all or all but some amount, say 10k per account, gold and items in the game to prevent the economy from being borked?

Note, to those that say the cheaters are being banned. Only the stupid cheaters are being banned. Many that used this exploit setup separate accounts and laundered their ill gotten gains before transferring the loot to accounts that would not get banned. Again there are reports of how to do this on the a fore mentioned warez hacker forums. And even if almost all the cheaters were stupid and will be banned, much of the gold and items they duped already made it into the economy by being sold or even given to players unaware of the cheating, ala GTA V style.

At this point I am undecided. As I wrote in the poll post, there are reports of many more serious exploits/bugs that essentially allow the same behavior as the guild bank xploit. If I was convinced Zeni had the exploits under control and we would not see another great infusion of cheated gold/items I would vote yes to the wipe, but as of now, I believe we will have more of this so the wipe would take out the imbalance for now but we probably would have to have similar wipes in the future so I'm really torn.

    Voted NO!

How would that even practically work? Most of the gold i own has come from questing and selling the drops from the mobs I killed while leveling. If now suddenly all my items and my gold was gone. What would I do? Would I have to mindlessly grind public dungeons to get a level of gold that allows me to even repair my gear (which is FAR too expensive by the way)?

Also, what happens when another glitch comes up. Another wipe?

I know it is the new black to see everything as if it is the end of the world, but please think first before posting those things.

This only punishes the players that did nothing wrong to begin with. The cheaters will just make mountains of gold again, the legit players will have to start over.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Undecided because WTF is an imblance?

Also undecided as I do not have sufficient information to know how pervasive and destructive the alleged exploit is.

I think the best course of action is for ZOS to take the information they have, determine the best course of action, execute that action, and monitor it's results and continue to adjust as necessary.

Why does what everyone else have affect your game? You play for you, not for everyone else.

Also let it go, no need for us VR10 who got our gear legit to suffer. We worked hard and for them to wipe us would SERIOUSLY affect their game.

I voted no because I have spent tons of time making money in this game, and ive already had gold and items wiped with the bank bug.

Just look at all the accounts with a quarter million gold or more. If they duped, ban them.

I understand what you're asking but I think you're looking at extremes. There are other ways to deal with this without doing a massive wipe over the game that would affect more innocents to this issue than those culprits. It would be far better for them to just target those they can, maybe hunt for items that exist in game/personal banks of insane stacks and investigate them? I'm not sure, but doing nothing and removing everything or even some are both simply to extreme IMO.

    By the nine, no way.

This would be the same as blocking the chat, guild invites & personal messages because of gold farmers.
Or like removing the ability to give your friends & guild-mates vampirism or lycanthropy because of those abusing knowledge of that ability to scam people or simply overcharge people.

All my gold, crafting resources, bank/bag slots & my horse I have gained fairly, by selling crafted & unwanted equipment to NPCs & other players for a reasonable price.
Every motif I have sold has been around 1,500 gold to 2,000 gold & would only pay that much myself.
I became a werewolf tonight & plan on biting friends & guild-mates for free.

The rest of us should not be punished for the actions of unscrupulous opportunists.

We're only a fortnight into the game. The sacrifice would be small compared to rectifying an issue that has spun out of control. Give a little now to ensure a better overall in the months to come.

There is no reason they can not target the individuals that use the exploit and to target everyone would just cause them to lose even more people all my mats I have stacked up over time in my bank I had worked so hard to stack over time and you want to wipe everything but 10k? you must already have nothing as it is if you think that is ok.

Had this time investment been prolonged across months and/or years, I would agree. However, being the very start of the game everything you have can be made up in the short time you have invested.

For the greater good... and all of that.

I only answered NO because there wasn't an option for "**** NO WTF were you thinking !! " As hard as it is for us legit players to raise a bit of gold, a wipe would be devastating.. besides.. most of that gold has already been sold to gold farmers for RL cash and wiping everyone elses gold will just make them laugh harder.

Punishing the other 90% of the population for the 10% or fewer people that exploited the system should never be considered as a solution. I don't know what the answer is, but I'm not Zenimax either...only they know what tools they have at their disposal & can come up with the right answer.
Catches-the-Sun - Argonian Templar - Master Smith, Provisioner, Chemist & Tailor

This. It was the first time, but surely not the last time. Every new patch carries the risk of new bugs and every time such a bug can be exploited to make money or valuable items, some jerks will use it. If we wipe everyone's gold and items every time, we may aswell stop playing altogether. Let Zenimax find them and ban them, problem solved.

Once ZOS gets the remaining bugs sorted out, the economy should start to equalize. It will take some time, but it will work itself out. Besides, there isn't a global auction house or some other public trading device. So it's really more of a situation of certain individuals having an ill gotten advantage that doesn't really directly impact the vast majority of players.

I worked for what I have. Taking crap from someone thats never so much as traded outside my two friends because of a guild bank dupe(my guild doesn't even *have* a bank) would be the final straw for us, and I imagine a lot of others.

Easy fix, wipe all accounts with over 100,000 Gold. Questing and grinding to 50 should net you a lot less than 100k gold so those with that much are either exploiting in one way or another.

I'm level 39 and have already made over 100k gold without any exploits, it's incredibly easy to make that much just by selling things you don't need in Zone chat or the Guild Stores. I think serious abusers of exploits would have hundreds of thousands or millions of gold.

Sorry why is this in the crafting section and not someplace else?

I voted no as the developers should be able to target people through the logs rather than wholesale wiping. I've spent ages getting up a good stock of runes to help my fellow guild members out. To have all that work wiped would be more than a tad annoying.

I vote no. They're not impacting my gameplay experience, I'm sure Zenimax is working on dealing with it without affecting the legit players, and I don't want an extreme solution that'll put me all the way back to square one. If what they were doing was directly affecting my personal gameplay experience, then I'd probably say consider it. But I don't see how you can justify such extreme measures and wiping out the progress that legit players have achieved, especially when, as it's been said already, exploiters will ALWAYS find some way of cheating. In the end, they're just ruining their own game experience because they'll never enjoy the game like it was meant to feel like.

It's probably pretty easy to see who's doing to exploiting using their logs and take actions accordingly. Yes, there is extra gold in the economy that shouldn't be there, but if most of those accounts get banned the gold goes with them.

Why would you even want a wipe, whatever hard work you did would be wiped along with it.

Let me give you a real world example of a wipe. Wells Fargo Bank determines that one of its customers was running a fraudulent business and making millions of dollars. Law enforcement turns over the information to Wells Fargo and asks them to turn over the balance of the offender... but they don't stop there and add every other customer that uses Wells Fargo just to be sure. Does that make any sense to you?
