I always repair my armor, it's really not that expensive. Best thing I can say is level up some more. Gold from quest rewards increases quite a bit as you get up into the 20-30 range, even more so in the 40-veteran range.

Join a trading guild, sell excess raw materials, motifs and blue provisioning recipes you don't need in the guild store. Open every container you can find and take anything worth selling/vendoring. If you have a ton of raw materials for a crafting skill that no longer gives you decent inspiration gains for that level, craft a bunch of white junk and sell it all to a vendor for some extra gold.

There are plenty of ways to make money in this game if you don't constantly hoard everything you pick up.

Maybe they should at least scale back the low level and white item repair costs.

    well your right
but not all the people have much time for that , like me i dont have the time to sell or grind materials ...
am level 42 and i only have 3k gold what a shame ....

I'm v2 on my main, only had 'problems' with my gold sink in repairs <level30. Just don't buy anything from vendors lol
  • necronomniconb14_ESO
I have also found them to be pretty expansive. For example, I can choose to repair the items individually, ignoring the ones I plan to replace soon. It's good to remind people of the expansive repair options, since most may be hitting 'R' and repairing them all without being aware of the other options. It also is a pretty decent gold sink for some players, making it truly expansive indeed.

HAHA oh god the word expansive being used in such repetition in that paragraph makes my eyes bleed.

Yes repairs are somewhat "expansive" but being lvl 42 with 3k means that you did something else wrong. If you did quests you would have much more. Unless you were spending it on stuff like motifs and vampire bites, then well that's your fault.

As much as I don't like all the money sinks in this game, they are a necessary evil. I do feel like they were a bit aggressive though with the cost of things.

The repair costs are pretty high. Were I not crafting a set of my own gear every 2 levels Id be quite poor as well. Unless repairs scale in a way that makes them a non-issue at higher levels (clearly not the case at L38 for me) they should be halved at the very least.

Pretty sure the single biggest source of repair cost is from death.

As a lowbie the difference been questing all night and never dying, and say the next day hitting a rough patch where you die even just a few times is miles apart. Like having 300g repairs once and 2k repairs a couple times. I didn't write down those numbers but it feels about right.

I never repair (L31). I just swap out my broken armour for stuff that has dropped or craft some more.

I think they may have recently reduced the amount of decay from just regular use, I seem to be getting a lot less, though don't have anything except just a sense of it to back this up.

The only reason to repair is indeed if you are melee and tanking, other than that there's little point in doing it, just replace it.

Repair costs do seem high, butt I also have a tendency to deconstruct most things = repair money allocated elsewhere.

Setting aside crafting, you can usually jump into a delve/public dungeon and camp the boss for about seven to ten rounds. It should give you a decent/good set of equipment. Jump around to other delves and repeat until you have about two sets of preferred armor style. If you get killed along the way, you can almost soul gem run toward the hotspot of the dungeon. And from what I've seen, weapons do not have durability, so you'll still hit the boss hard enough for credit assuming adequate level and less than ten people swarming.

Avoid buying gear from NPC vendors when you can. Double check any trading guild stores to see if they have inexpensive 100-200ish gold replacements/upgrades.

Not 100% advice, but just some workarounds if you don't have access to a crafter.

I have no idea how armor degradation works. I ran a dungeon and I died many times and my armor barely lost any durability. Then I went questing for several hours and never died and by the time I got back to town all my gear was near broke.

They should had done two things:

In crafting (clothing or smithing), there should had been a passive, where repair kits get better and better for you to use. Something like one repair kit can repair two pieces of armour, then by spending a 3rd point it can repair three armour pieces etc,,,,

Repair kits should also should drop like lockpicks, but not as frequent,

Repairing all armour costs so much less than one repair kit (whatever the level it is).

If you played Kindgdoms of Amalur: reckoning, it is the same system basically.

If I can create my own set of Daedric armor, why do I have to pay an NPC that cannot even craft armor to repair it? To me this borders on stupidity. An alchemist can repair my Daedric armor but I, the crafter of it, cannot? Barring a repair kit I purchase for more than it costs to repair. I hope the person or persons responsible for coming up with the gold sink regarding repairs/repair kits has been politely 'let go' from Zenimax creative projects.

I don't understand the issue with repair costs.

I'm currently Veteran rank 7 and I've ~100.000 gold in addition of purchasing the expensive horse and bag/bank upgrades and 3 respecs (20.000 gold each).

I just loot everything and sell all whites and greens as my professions are already at 40 and I think that stacks of 100 green upgrade materials is enough.

How often do you die and have you purchased filled Soul Gems? :\

Umm... cause you dont want to pay repair bills.

Start crafting and just build new armor, at the lower levels anyway.

First off the word is EXPENSIVE that means a high cost. EXPANSIVE means broad or taking much in account.
If you don't have time to earn gold maybe this game isn't for you. There are many ways to play the game and make gold. This is a world you need to be involved in on many fronts (expansive.)

I will be looking in to whether V rank armor/weapons are more expensive (high cost) to repair over say lvl 49. It seemed the repair costs jumped once I hit veterans rank. Maybe it is just that VR is more expensive.

That being said every aspect of the game is content. You paid for content so use the content. If you just want to hack and slash through the game without picking up the spoils of your efforts to sell that is ill use of content. IMO.

Expansive also works in this case to be honest.

I just thought I would point out that what people who tested are saying is that the non-death decay happens when a mob dies and gives you xp. Not from quests, falling or taking damage or anything, apparently.

ZOS investigated and confirmed repair is in general working as designed, with some exceptions where it was doing too much. They said they are also looking at it for things like grouping.

    Source: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/85620/rapid-gear-decay/p14
After thoroughly testing the armor decay system, we found that everything is working as it was designed. However, we did find that there were a small number of cases that may be generating more decay than was originally intended, and we will continue to investigate those situations. We’ve also seen your feedback and do agree with you that the durability was too severe under some conditions, such as while you’re playing in a group, and are testing these changes on the PTS now.

I can't say I think this a good mechanic. You basically become incrementally less strong with each kill until you repair or replace your gear, for the sake of having a universal gold sink. But, oh well.

Exactly! I don't repair either (lvl29). At this low level, I outgrow my armor regularly and it doesn't seem to make sense to repair.

However, I don't look forward to the repair bills in VR levels.

I use my "main stuff" for dungeons only. Repairing VR10 gear costs 3k+ gold.

I also have "smurf stuff" - level 1 EQ, sets for decreased spell costs and chance to free cast, white items with traits for mundus stone or sprinting. It grant me passives from my armor skill line and full repair is around 100 gold. :)

Your armor actually takes damage whenever you gain non-quest experience. You could never die and still eventually have to repair. Simply playing the game destroys your gear.

cheaper to craft a new White set to grind in each time you need a big repair.
