Enchanting - the most useless profession

I've been trying to do enchanting and it's just not nearly worth it.

You can only make like four good runes. Put some damage on your weapon. You can add stamina, health, or magicka to your armor, and literally EVERYTHING ELSE EVER is forced onto the three jewellery slots. Want to resist frost? Jewellery. Want to increase stamina regen? Jewellery. Want to add weapon damage outside of weapon enchants? Jewellery.

And you can't craft jewellery. And the jewellery you find in the wild is probably better than anything you can enchant ANYWAY.

And then there's the ridiculously long time it takes to get a single level in enchanting. It is the very definition of a 'chore'.

Add to this the fact that there's like four rune spawn points in each zone and they're all redundant-as-shite yellows and reds instead of the blues that you NEED to be able to even make runes of your level, and you have what is a worthless profession that takes a stupidly ridiculous amount of time to level up and only gives you a few weapon damage enchants for your troubles while stifling any kind of creativity by enforcing arbitrary enchanting limitations like the aforementioned fact that 90% of all enchantments go on jewellery and nowhere else.

I don't know where I'm going with this. Except maybe enchanting should be, I don't know, rewarding in some way? Especially for the insane amount of garbage you have to do to even level it up. And the stupid amount of rune hunting you have to do to even make two runes of your own level.

    I agree. I struggle to get enchanting to level up. it takes more space in my inventory then any other craft. blacksmithing? takes up 2-4 spots. same with clothing (a bit more since you have both cloth and leather). woodwroking? same.

    Enchanting is taking up close to 20-25 spots right now...and im only level 15. can't imagine what it's like at level cap.

    And I was almost excited to see all the cool things I could enchant! took me forever to figure out why i couldn't use them on my armor....they're all for jewelry. Oh right...and the first 3 pieces of jewelry you actually get in the game are BLUE and GREEN and can't be enchanted.

    I've kept basic mana and stamina enchants on my gear (suprise...you can buy them for relatively cheap too)....I have yet to use a jewelry enchant.

    This is one area that really needs some work. enchantements need to be generic. fit on anything. the sole exception should be damage enchants for weapons only. the rest should be useable on anything...why can't i put 25 spell resist on my sword? or stamina regen on my boots? makes no sense.

    Level 50 players...is there any reason to work on this craft? is there top level gear that actually allows you to enchant it? Im sort of mystified...blacksmithing has so many features, and enchanting seems so lackluster in comparison.

    This. I agree 100%. Enchanting looked to be fun, but having 20 enchantments you can only put on 3 slots, and 7 slots that can only take 3 basic enchantments seems ill thought out.

    I can sort of see what they're trying to do with keeping enchanting on jewellery mostly. It's forcing you to not to mix/max certain stats. Like regen rates. Someone with full stamina regen on every piece of armor/jewellery would be OP, right?

    If only there was some way to stop it... like... I dunno? An 'overcharge' feature that gives you diminishing returns if you try to increase a stat too much?

    Nah, that's stupid. No way they'd be able to implement something like that. -_-

    Anything you craft you can enchant and frankly crafted gear without enchant is just half good. Sad is that armor has just max hp/magicka/sta and that's it, weapons have few more, but then you have only 2 weapons. Jewelry enchants are bs... and considering your limited options, lvling enchanting is the biggest pain in ESO crafting.

    Yeah, I really think they should add jewelry crafting. That would help at least.

    They really do need to revamp the system. As you said, a lot of the enchants are just useless. x.x It's frustrating when you're finally able to make something decent and find out its only usable on jewelry.

    I don't really see a problem with enchants being universal, maybe armor and weapon enchants separated, but that's it, there will have to be diminishing returns (eg. full kit with Alchemist enchants would mean perma pots) though.

    It could be worse. It could take as many slots as provisioning. :P

    I filled up an entire mule alt with provisioning supplies by level 13 then decided I would never want to do provisioning and sold it all for maybe 5 gold.

    I dislike the Enchanting UI all together. When you discover a recipe it would be nice if the UI had a filing system:

    Something like weapon, armor, jewelry Then from there you can select what you want if you have the parts in your inventory.

    For those that do not know you can store the runes in your bank and the crafting tables will use them all the same. I do agree that if you look at woodworking (as a mage doing both woodworking, enchanting and tailor). My wood working was garbage level when I hit 15 but by deconstruction I was able to catch it up quickly. When you find high level Enchantments it doesn't give you nearly the same level (I am currently 15 in Enchanting).

    Most of the rune locations i find are around water on the shores. Just have to memorize where they are and go back frequently to check. Leveling via making the enchantments takes forever and a day.

    Agreed, harvesting enchanting nodes is probably the weakest of the harvesting. Having a discovered recipe list would be great.

    As far as finding resources, I haven't used it yet myself, but I see there is a Harvesting Node Add-on:

    The other strategy with provisioning is level it like hell and get it out of the way, then clear out the space. It's the easiest to level by design, I think.

    On enchanting, yes, once I figured out this was the way it worked it decreased my interest in it. It's true that if you don't have it, or have someone close to you who does, that your crafted items are gimped by not being enchanted, but the limits are pretty austere. My guess is similar to that of others in this thread -- namely that it's a way to thwart min/max builds based on chants.

    I REALLY like the concept behind enchanting. It has a ton of potential.

    I haven't bothered leveling it beyond 3, and I have all the other profs over 10 on at least one toon. I'm assuming that the leveling speed is bugged, but there are other issues with the prof. I'm leaving my mule a mule until it's fixed.

    The only thing about it that's kind of worth it (IMO) is that you need a glyph to "complete" a piece of gear that you've crafted from scratch. A crafted sword (e.g.) can have a material/level, an improvement/color, a trait, a set piece bonus, and an enchant. But drops and quest rewards already have the bonus that our enchanting would provide.

    It's a cool feeling to craft yourself a "complete" piece of gear, but people are saying that you get better results simply by improving veteran drops. So accounting as well for the slow leveling, I too am pretty much ignoring my enchanting alt.

    I think I'd like to see enchants be a property of gear that can't be filled by any other means, like certain other games.

    Love enchanting in theory, but I agree it could use some tweaks to make it worthwhile. Given how hard it is to level up (which is fine, by the way), I'd expect to see bigger payoffs.

    I'm onboard with everyone with the jewelry problem. I have yet to find jewelry I can enchant. I'd like to see them diversify in the way other TES games have done: helms can have X, Y, or Z glyphs; legs can have G, H, or X glyphs, etc to spread things out while still maintaining reasonable restrictions on the number of a particular type of glyph you can have at once.

    It goes fast if you have lots of runes and friend with you.

    You get most of XP by salvaging glyphs made by another player, a bit less from dropped ones and least from NPC sold ones.

    Also XP gained from salvaging goes most-to-least with legendary-epic-rare-uncommon-common tiers. Huge amount of XP comes as well with discovering new words.

    I could lvl up from 20 to 21 by simply salvaging 5 epic runes for lvl 40-50. Tho they were a bit pricy (500g each) it was worth as whole enchanting profits at end stages.

    Btw. I doubt any vampire would say no to jewellery glyph that gives 1000 fire resist as epic for lvl 50. And it's just a half way thru :)

    Can anyone confirm my theory that if you harvest rune, when it respawns it will be other type? I took a rune yday and then got distracted in TeamSpeak, I was standing still in the game and the rune respawned and it was potency -> essence -> aspect, then I left.

    Can anyone confirm my theory that if you harvest rune, when it respawns it will be other type? I took a rune yday and then got distracted in TeamSpeak, I was standing still in the game and the rune respawned and it was potency -> essence -> aspect, then I left.

    The world spawns are static in their location but random in their type.

    You want a reason to level enchanting? How about that at endgame, the stat boots on your armor are equivalent to what you can get from stat point allocations?

    Well I know a location that has 5 enchant nodes, 7 or 8 iron nodes, atleast 3 jute nodes, 5 wood nodes and a few alchemy nodes plus half dozen wolves for hides.

    All in one general area. You can run a iron and enchant node run with a wood spawn once in a while and couple alchemy nodes. Then you can run up the hill and do the wood, wolf, jute, alchemy with couple iron and couple enchant node run. They are out there and not hard to find.

    You just need to look at the areas and pay attention to the nodes in the area. They are out there and not hard to find, you just need to look.

    Enchanting will be fine once jewellery is put in. However, what they really need to do is adjust the spawn tables so jewellery runes are less common until they do.

    Actually, since you gain more IP from deconstruction I am fine with glyphs I can't put on anything. I'm just going to blow them up for IP anyway.

    Whaaat ? Enchanting is excellent. You need to think about what kind of Glyph you need.

    Example : on my DK Tank I put a glyph to reduce spell harm on both rings. With Rekuta that is 290 per ring. USEFUL.

    Weapon enchants to steal stamina or health....

    Base Glyphs to simply raise stats on armour, helps balance out your build.

    Nice regen glyphs on jewelery too, I always have a health regen boost on my Tanks necklace.

    (um.. yeh, mage guild jewelery can all be enchanted...)

    Enchanting is certainly a pain in the arse to level. That being said, I shall continue to suffer said arse pain because it is far from the most useful profession. I consider it to being absolutely vital to making top quality gear.

    As for the comments about jewelry; you get white quality rings and necks from drops which are the intended recipients of those glyphs.

    I have been finding all my glyphs on trash mobs. I haven't had to make or buy any glyphs yet. In fact I have been finding so many that I just use them to recharge my weapons, and I just give away what I don't use.

    yeah enchanting is the longest leveling craft in the game. In addition you can literally only put 3 enchants on your armor where everything else thats not a weapon enchant is on jewelry. I dont see a reason that some of the jewelry enchants cant also be for armor. Some Fire resist and such should be on armor as well.

    In every other ES game. There were only specific enchants that could be only on jewelry. Everything else armor and jewelry shared. Here it feels really backwards.
