100% and improving items still fail

Is this actually part of the crafting design? Tonight I was making a friend a nice 3 piece set. During the improvement stage one piece failed even with enough honing stones to be at 100%. A second piece failed when upgrading with dwarven oils also at 100%. So 100% and 2 out of 3 items still failed

    I had 2 shields fail in a row at 90% :/.
    Unlucky bud, I would have been even more pissed if I was at 100%

    Uhm, math says that you cant really fail at 100% success rate. Something is seriously wrong with that numbers.

    Maybe tooltip just lie to us and its like 100% -60% hidden lulz modiffer

    Oh the horror of RNG in FF XiV -with chances at 75% you could fail like 5 times in a ROW

    that is not working as intended.

    bug this please, that way they can get it fixed before any of my "100%" attempts fails. (I am sorry for your loss by the way).

    That is really awful. I was planning on stocking up on improving items and doing this each time. O.o Now I'm scared to! Yeaaah, be sure to report this!

    yeah, nothing better than trying to improve a set piece (that you can't craft) and it breaks.. but hey, I don't even do that anymore, since guess what? there isn't any good (and good looking) set for my archer - most sets benefit only melee or only casters. So far only Red Mountain set has good set bonus, but it's rare as *** and twice as useless, since I'm 6 levels above it :s (and ugly, don't forget ugly)

    Perhaps it was never meant to be 100%, and there is an issue with the wording rather than the mechanics.

    Personally, I would prefer that it were not 100% success rate, as it would make crafted high calibre items that much more valuable.

    There is a bug that resets the tannins you are using back down to 1. No matter if it says 1,2,3,4,5. It still might be only 1. Make sure you check the 100% when it shows the warning. What likely happened to you is it dropped back down to one before you noticed, you quickly completed the improvement and it failed because you only had a 20% chance or so. There are a few other threads about this.

    I also had this happen to me but after I took my time and made for sure it was at 100% I didn't have any failures.

    One of the programmers used to play an old percentile tabletop RPGs that generally fail skill checks on a roll of 96-100. He zoned out while writing the code and referenced a function for his tabletop generator that accidentally fails on a roll above 95. He will remove PalladiumSkillCheckFail(roll(100)) from the code as soon as he is off suspension for developing the character generator at work. :)

    Are we sure it is a 100% base chance or a 100% improvement on the base chance?

    There are a lot of things we don't know, and that is a good question. Under the hood it could be (100 - Item Level)% for all we know.

    Did you have the passive which 'improves' the success rate? If so, that is a know bug. It SAYS it improves the chances, but it does not, so it 'looks' like its 100% but it's really the old rate (85%) and has a chance to fail. Its been logged, but the more people that log it, the better.

    Before that bug was in, when the % was 100% or above, you no longer got the 'warning' as it could not fail. When the bug was 'added', you would get that warning message even at 100%. When you add even more components to it to about 120% (which is really only 100% as the 'passive' is not working) the warning message stops as you are now really at 100% chance.

    I did have 1 point into improving. I would be interested to see where this may have been posted as a known bug. main reason is I contacted support (wanted my stones and oils back heh) and their response was they were looking into it. If it was a known bug I would hope their support would know about it and pass that information on in their response to me, vs leaving me hanging

    Isnt this a bit like a storm in a teapot tho? They should just change the tooltip to 99% max and that there may occur critical failiure when crafting. Perhaps they should add stuff like "You swung the smith hammer with overconfidence and end up hiting your own leg! The materials was destroyed and whats worse, from now on you will be walking with a limp!"

    Ok, serious now. if it says 100% it should be 100%. But i hope they change it. The harder the better! ;)

    It wouldnt let me add a 5th which is what Id needed to cap it.

    I sent them a ticket too, asking if they could compensate the mats or gold used or something. This was the response I got in mail:

    I felt like they were shrugging it off and saying that I was supposed to have known that 100% isn't 100% with the statment in bold, so I responded to the mail:

    Yes, I agree with this statement. The problem is that the game says 100% success rate. If I read between the lines of this statement, you're saying that failure at 100% is expected. If that is the case, you should change the number, because if it isn't 100%, then it's a lie. If it is a bug and it is supposed to be 100% success rate, then I feel like you're not taking responibility. If that's the case you should admit that this was not supposed to happen at least, instead of a "these things happen" statement, and imply that I was the one who should have known that 100% isn't 100%. I can live without the materials and gold lost, I'll just have to play a couple of hours regaining them, it's your response witch feels like you're shouldrering the blame onto me that I don't appreciate in this matter.

I mean, I am kind of angry still that I lost my mats, and maybe I'm just reading too much into my response, but it feels like they're not taking responsiblity and instead blame me for not realising 100% is 100%, since they don't admit that this is an issue in this mail. :\

    you are not unreasonable. I had an interesting bug with the 100% chance improvement. I had it at 100%, ran it. the tooltip glowed green indicating success. but when it was done the pants I was upgrading were still white, and the upgrade mats were gone.

    unfortunately the fact is there are a ton of bugs in this game and its going to take months to sort them all out.

    Yeah, and I can live with the fact that there are bugs and it will take time. I am really enjoying the game despite the bugs. But I feel like they should admit the fact that it is a bug (or that they should have changed from 100% to, say, 95%) rather than shrug it off, because I feel their response was kind of arrogant since they didn't, even if they apologized to me for the inconvinience. :(

    i craft things all the time and improve them, and everything has worked fine for me so far. Hopefully i don't run into this myself

    I noticed that at the top of the mail it said "Helping you is our passion!", so I responded to this answer with:

    "If helping me is your passion, then you should take some anti-depressants, because this isn't very passionate. You could at least read and respond personally instead of sending a standard form that has nothing to do with the issue. This is really bad customer support and I'm really dissapointed."

    I had a similar issue @ patch 1.0.1 stopped tailoring after that and switched to alchemy.

    I tried to improve a headpiece from green to blue with 100% chance with no skill points in passives for improvement. It did not say/warn that it might fail. However, it failed.

    I have no idea if that bug is still valid, but I am not very eager to try that again.

    Please keep us updated--If I'm gambling on improvements, I'll go with 80%. I choose 100% to avoid the loss. If it's not true 100%, we need to know that.

    I've had two fail at 100%, no points in the skills to modify that percentage. I've had zero fails at 80%. I think I'll stick with the 80% odds until they fix this.
