Doesn't change the main problem here- Zenimax needs to extend early access to the people who already qualified for it... it's too easy, and only makes sense with the sheer amount of problems caused by ending access before most people have received their copies in the mail.

BTW watch out bro. People already have your account handle, that's just one step closer to brute-forcing your password and hacking your account. Stay safe.

I taste the shame you feel at overlooking the OPs actual problem in your haste to try and say something witty. It's delicious. Backpedal more, "bro".

Read the terms for the account. It does state a valid payment is need to activate the free 30 days.
This is not new to any MMO.
Plus you posted here, so anyone can reply to a public thread.

TBH I don't even know how many MMO's I've had to do this with, this is nothing new at all to people that play MMO's on a regular basis.

I believe people have been asking about the fee, and it seems to be a temporary thing to ensure that the card or whatever leads somewhere. Once the charge has been confirmed, it's cancelled, so no money is taken.

That doesn't stop the fact that many MMO's I know offer the ability of Paypal or instantaneous online things like that.

Honestly, things haven't been handled well at all. People don't have their codes because it comes with the box and they haven't recieved that yet, or items missing, or payment options being dumb.

I'll be sticking with he game, but this launch was handled poorly, which is silly, because Zenimax could have simply googled bag or good MMO launches and search other games forums, to find things to avoid.

I don't know if you guys are too young to comprehend a work around or just naive, but all you need to do if you haven't been able to get a prepaid time card is visit your local Wal-Mart and purchase a prepaid Mastercard or Visa. Load it with the $15.00 (I would recommend 15.50 just to be safe). You can then use this card to allow Zenimax to preauthorize the card for $15. They will not actually take the money, however. It will be redeposited within the next day.

Yes they did. What did you think the word required meant anyway?

  • BusyBlazin
Tired of the people defending Zenimax for this... the fact is if you DON'T have a credit/debit card right now to set up a sub, you CAN'T play. There are no time cards, I've called every major retailer in my area code and not one has them. Myself, like many others, will NEVER put my credit/debit card info on the internet. To preorder I even used a prepaid VISA and was planning on using time cards (which I assumed would be available within the next 30 days), and now many of us cant play. This is simply ridiculus.

It is my understanding that the charge will be refunded, but seeing as it's Sunday, it won't happen until tomorrow or sometime next week. It's an authorization charge that happens automatically done by computers, but it takes a real person in the bank to handle the refund. I could be wrong.

No, you're quite right. Pre-authorization charges freeze funds anywhere from an hour to 3 days, although the latter is pretty outside the norm. Varies by locale.

personally i feel lied to I purchased a game that advertised that it came with with game time included. now because my bank doesn't trust gaming companies.
(I am starting to understand why.)
I have to buy and use game time cards. SO I have to shell out more money before i can use the promised game time. because it is not including game time as advertised but instead.
it is bonus game time with a subscription will i do it yes because i like the game but i feel like it is a dirty trick.

Wow some people's logic is beyond me. I remember a time when companies actually cared about what their customers thought. When you purchase this game it says it includes 30 days of time. It does not say you must pay 14.99 up front so the company can assume how much they can expect monthly from their product.

It is how they word it, and what they did not put on their box or any advertisements.

Yes, especially when the terms of use explicitly indicate the need for a legitimate billing account be established for access. Not only that, but who in their right mind would ever pay $60 or more to buy a game which is CLEARLY subscription based only to expect (and demand) one month of free game time? It's also blatantly obvious that the 30 day grace period is a gratuity for the initial investment, and not some kind of Jedi mind trick to lure hapless, poor people into playing, again, a subscription based MMO.

My words are not meant to offend, but they are firm because this seems insane to me for people to be so upset about this. You need an active and valid payment method to play...period. The goal is to allow you to pay for a subscription, which in turn pays for the development, advertising, pertinent costs and future production of a massively multiplayer online role playing game which is most certainly NOT free to play.

My parents educated me, perhaps that may be the problem. My father would tell me, "nothing in this world is free," and I learned from it. Then again, there are free to play games...and torrents...and bingo. Who can hate bingo, really?

Your post doesn't offend, and my parents educated me aswell. They educated me on saving my money and investing. I have the majority of my money taken out of my paycheck and put into a high yield savings account. This money is not easy to access once it is in their since it is through my employer. I then have to manage what little money I allow myself each month in order to get things I want. Making room in my budget for $60 wasn't easy, I can manage $15 though. The fact of the matter is that the money isn't in my debit account and I don't dare use my CC unless it is an emergency, ESO isn't an emergency. It isn't even necessary to me.

Next week I can pay for a sub. Zenimaxes inquiry into my personal finances and telling me "you don't have enough money to play" is what gets me mad. We are entitled to 30 days of free game, but this "standard practice" everyone keeps yelling about is preventing us from accessing it. I cannot contact them for a refund, as I could use that money rather than play ESO. I cannot contact them to activate my 30 days until I have the full amount in my account to pay for the sub. They've taken my money and ran in my opinion and that is wrong. If they would preauth with the standard $1 charge I'd be fine. I do however has mortgage payments and insurance to pay for. My home and personal life is more important than an MMO and that's why I don't have the money to pay the sub.

The practice is wrong, plain and simple. If you've just been able to buy anything you wanted the moment you wanted it your parents didn't teach you about personal responsibility.

so I didn't use a valid payment method when I purchased the game? Is my card less valid now because it doesn't have the amount on it they're asking? They are asking me if I have the money 30 days before they charge me for it. I can certainly say that my card was plenty valid when I purchased the game. This isn't just a pre auth, it's an inquiry into my personal finance and it is wrong. Even though I have this card associated with my subscription, it failed to the preauth because I didn't not have the full months on it.
