Crown Store Website Updates

Hey everybody, we wanted to let you know about changes to how we communicate Crown Store updates on the website.

To help manage workload, we have decided to remove the Web Crown Store from the official elderscrollsonline.com website on Wednesday, July 22. The ability to acquire crowns via the website will remain and, of course, this does not affect the items that will be offered on the Crown Store in The Elder Scrolls Online, you will just need to login into the game to view and purchase the latest offerings.

Furthermore, for the same reason, the monthly Crown Store Showcase blog will also change. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we will continue to reassess how we promote the Crown Store in the future-thank you!

Thanks for the updates. The monthly blog is always helpful and an exciting monthly tradition, even the version with somewhat reduced photos, so whatever format works will still be exciting.

Can you provide some additional context on what will be changing about the Crown Store Showcase blog? Not happening at all? Less pictures? No timeline?

Any information at all would be helpful.

We'll reach out to the team working on this and get back to you with specifics. This info is being close to being ironed out.

Purely hypothetical, but I would imagine that the crown store catalog could just be published via some webservice. The items in rotation have a flag that promotes them to the website, along with a description and image. A shift from a blog - which TBH I found a little hard to read after a while - to just a catalog. Can that be done?

Thanks Kevin! I know a lot of us look forward to knowing what is coming each month with great excitement! Even just a bulleted list of items with dates with minimal pictures would be fine, but not knowing what is coming makes it very difficult to plan Crown Spending (and thus discourages spending overall), so I hope we get to keep it in some capacity!

So, the Web Crown Store is going to be removed, but we can still get crowns on the website? I am slightly confused, but I am assuming the Web Crown Store means the blog post?

Seconding hope that we still get dates and items. I manage reminders for dungeon mask drop windows and rely on the showcase to do that. No dates for mask drops? No more reminders. Alternative options could be to give a designated week that there will be A mask every month or schedule all the masks to each have their own week every year. Then I can still post reminders.

No, I believe the Web Crown Store refers to this: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/crownstore

I never knew it existed before this post announcing its removal!

The blogs are the here I think: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/category/crown-store

And we can buy crowns from this: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/crowns

I have heard from some of the Stream Team that the monthly showcase took a lot of hours to set up every month (like a large part of one person’s job was just making that), so it is understandable that that needed to be cut with the smaller team.

I do like seeing what’s coming up, but I can accept that as a sacrifice. It would be nice though if the “no datamined content” rule got lightened each month if the team can only afford to make a list and then allow the community to fill in the pictures on a forum thread from datamines; we already have community members recording things like the Luxury Vendor and the weekly merchant stock, and many in the community would be willing to throw that together.

I remember a while back, when I had first started playing in 2019 that in addition to the showcases we sometimes got surprise things in game, which meant window shopping every few days was useful. After the pandemic, we really only ever got the stuff in the showcase and no surprises, so I never had the need to window shop. I do see a silver lining in that surprise offerrings may make window shopping viable again.
(In which case it’d be wonderful to get a lot more rotation in the store and not have things be unavailable for 2+ years anymore)

Perhaps the team could make the crown store in game more navigable:

-While the featured sections are nice, it removes items from the default location (for example in the crown crates).

    - it would be nice to have items labeled as “new”, while returning items labeled as “returning item”. In separate tabs

With all the new items mixed with the recycled items it becomes difficult to identify what is actually new.

The web crown store was a part of the website you could look at crown items. That will be going away. The blogs will be changing due to team bandwidth. So they will still happen, but be more list like than anything else.

I believe this was not possible due to several tech limitations. And building the tech was not an option. But this was explored.

So, the Web Crown Store is going to be removed, but we can still get crowns on the website? I am slightly confused, but I am assuming the Web Crown Store means the blog post?

No, I believe the Web Crown Store refers to this: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/crownstore

I never knew it existed before this post announcing its removal!

The blogs are the here I think: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/category/crown-store

And we can buy crowns from this: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/crowns

Oh, okay. So, the Web Crown Store is a blog post about what's in the Crown Store, and that's what they're removing.

The web crown store was a part of the website you could look at crown items. That will be going away. The blogs will be changing due to team bandwidth. So they will still happen, but be more list like than anything else.

That's going to be a problem for UESP because I know we use those high resolution screenshots from the official website on our Wiki.

I was thinking the same thing. When I upload a promotional render to the wiki, I usually get it off of the blog post. I'm not sure if there's another way to do it...?

We'll reach out to the team working on this and get back to you with specifics. This info is being close to being ironed out.

There will at least be a bulleted list of items. Just confirmed that info.

I'm glad to hear there will at least be a list. I try to keep the uesp crown store item pages up-to-date will availability and price information, and I use the showcase blog posts all the time. It would have been a pain to have to just keep checking the store itself and figure out what's new on my own.

By the way, if you want to just update the crown store once a week but with more items each time, I wouldn't mind. ;)

The goal is to provide what we can. Especially because we know folks like UESP do use those shots. But to be blunt, the team responsible for the blog and those screenshots doesn't have the capacity to provide those at the scale we could before. But we will provide what we can for now and adjust from there.
If there's anything we can do to help (e.g. be the source of the screenshots for you), let us know!
I was under the impression that UESP took user submitted screenshots of stuff from ESO anyway for their wiki.
Yes, but we also use the official renders as well, e.g. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/File:ON-crown_store-Bravil_Retriever.jpg
    360px-ON-crown_store-Bravil_Retriever.jpg

We need to overhaul our documentation of the Crown Store a bit anyway, but unfortunately it doesn't look like the full renders are included in the game files (unless I'm looking in the wrong place) which is why we were getting them from the website.

Something full-sized presumably will exist somewhere, as the icons within the Crown Store are all derived from them...

Will this mean some crown store items could be added back as surprises or just put in stuff that appeared once years ago and have never returned like arena gladiator horse. As midyear mayhem next month would be perfect the opportunity to add items like this to. As no need to put on blog and lots of people want this mount.

They do exist in the files in their hi-res glory. Or at least they have thus far.

I don't know about various datamining locations (and it's against forum rules to talk about it anyway), but a lot of people do know where to look to find the future Crown Store renders in each PTS patch. Honestly it's great marketing, since the people who are into finding that information are also the ones who look through that datamine and make lists of what they want to buy.

Point is that I'm sure UESP could get in contact with that website to get the full official renders.

This is the important thing, there’s no need to render the flashy promo pics and such alongside items if it’s too time consuming but just knowing what’s coming to the store each month is still important

This is concerning news, admittedly. To my knowledge, the Crown Store is a pretty big part of what funds this game. Thank you for the update.

It is concerning. I'm tired of being called a doomer by just being realistic about this stuff, it's not friggen good guys, wake the frick up I swear (talking to the players who thinks ZOS is fine/the layoffs was a good thing/bethesda will help.)
    Hoping for more playable races.

If it's a sign of anything, it's a sign that people didn't use it very much compared to the work it took, and that the web team was reduced (which was stated on Reddit by people who claim to be former employees).

Something can be "not good" without the sky falling.

Notice how no one so far has said, "I will miss spending Crowns via the website instead of in-game" (though I'm sure they're out there somewhere).

Or, alternatively, they fired the people who had the time to write said articles/update the web code lol
