Six hours is shorter than most people sleep. There's definitely going to be people who actually can't get their log in rewards and do their daily endeavors because of this. This is bonkers.

Honestly... I will be one of those, but I am grown up enough, to not see my dailies in a game as that important.

This thread is highlighting another reason it would be helpful for ZOS to tell us what the maintenance is for: we've got people expecting every bug from the last update to be fixed (and possibly some from before then), people expecting big changes for the upcoming event, or the PvP mode, or both, other people saying it's just server maintance and will make no noticable changes at all...

Even if it all goes to plan and works perfectly some people are going to be disappointed and confused that it didn't do what they expected, which could easily be avoided if ZOS simply put up a post saying "We are doing 18 hour maintance because..."

TBH the thing that irks me the most of 'all day maintenance' is that the week that Zenithar starts and the trader bids are veritably stratospheric while is a struggle to keep the guild going we lose an entire day of trading.

I guess that most people don't really care about it but the closer we get to the date - and after having had to scrounge every single coin I could find to be able to place the bids - the saltier I get about this.

The June 25th maintenance for The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is scheduled for 18 hours due to backend database upgrades on the PC megaservers. This extended downtime is needed for more substantial work than typical weekly maintenance.

    Here's a breakdown:
    Backend Database Upgrades:
The maintenance involves upgrading the backend systems that support the game, likely including database optimizations and potentially hardware upgrades.
    Extended Downtime:

While typical ESO maintenance might last a few hours, this one is scheduled for 18 hours (from 12:00AM EDT/ 4:00 UTC to 6:00PM EDT/ 22:00 UTC), indicating a more significant operation.

    Preparation for Events:
Some speculate the maintenance could also be related to upcoming events or content releases, requiring additional backend work.

    No Patch:
It's important to note that this is labeled as "Maintenance" not "Patch Maintenance," suggesting hardware or database work rather than a large game update.
Essentially, the longer duration is due to the complexity and scope of the database upgrades being performed, rather than a routine patch or update.

With that out of the way.. I'm wondering if the extended maintenance is pushing stuff to live in preperation for the Vengance test that is upcoming.

I usually play on PCEU in the afternoon or early evening, then play on PCNA later in the night (USA Eastern Time), but today I'll be sure to get those done earlier-- especially PCNA. I feel bad for any players who will end up missing a day of gameplay, but I'm planning to use the time off to play other games for a day, then tomorrow night I'll be back to ESO.

I've actually been playing Morrowind a lot recently. I'm also actively playing Oblivion, Daggerfall, and Arena, but my time spent playing Arena and Daggerfall has dropped off a good bit and I've been spending more time playing Morrowind and Oblivion.

18 hours downtime for zero bug fixes, while U46 introduced countless bugs. Thanks?

Totally agree with you there UP46 is a total bugfest, and more than likely they will introduce more with this maintenance.

Instead of putting all of those mounts and those ridiculous crates in the crown store they should fix there broken game.

Day before upcoming event is the Zeal of Zenithar event. It will start on June 26th 2025 coincidence?

No its not, they planned it like this, also planned mid week to minimize impact, maintenance also ends before prime time NA which is also not a coincidence.

I don't mind an extended downtime for maintenance. The NA server has been acting a tad strange lately. My helmet was showing even though I use the hide helmet feature. My actual shoulders from my crafted armor were showing also. I wear a costume all the time and this has never happened before.

I have plans for the downtime, cleaning the garage, having a new heat pump and the unit that sits in the garage installed either tomorrow afternoon or Thursday. I may even make Chili Relleno, with homemade Chili Relleno sauce and Spanish rice from scratch.

I saw the maintenance announcement last night but didn't realise it was that long or starting earlier than it usually does. Thought I would have half an hour to log on in the morning since I get up early. But I don't get up THAT early.

that shouldn't take that long though, they did break stuff with last patch/maint. Hopefully they are fixing the missing sound effects like selling to the merchant. It feels so off to not get the sound interaction to let you know the item has been sold. Who knows what all else was broken.

Not second rate, just a smaller market, it makes sense to prioritise your largest and most lucrative market. If we can increase EU numbers and spending to match or surpass NA then things will change. With the economic uncertainty, high interest rates, rising inflation, rising job losses and more economic problems right now in the USA this may actually happen this year.

I suspect that most of this time is going towards testing, and not so much fixing. These bugs should have already been fixed and ready to load into the server. As a former developer/programmer (not with ZoS) I know that such maintenance can be frustrating when you have hundreds of thousands of people asking "Are you done yet"?
Just hang in there, guys. They'll get 'er done.

Not enjoying a maintenance this long either but real world issues need to be taken into account. Doing this on a Wed makes sense. If you blow a fuse, burn out a wire, etc (they did say server maintenance) then an electrician has to be called. Electricians work Monday-Friday 8-5, everything else is overtime. Monday and Tuesday are booked from weekend calls so Wednesday makes more sense and same for any other outside contractor issues as well. Also hope they do test it carefully once they get any transfers/ upgrades done. It does not say anything about Patch but hopefully they throw at least a few bug fixes in there. Like I said not a fan of hurry up and wait either but not much to do other than. I do hope at least for the EU people they take the daily into consideration. Hope everyone has a good if a bit frustrating day and all stay safe.
