Ice Staff Heavy Attack Should have a Taunt Morph built in!

I think this would complement a Morph Beautifully so Tanks could use the HA to Taunt while non-Tank Builds could use Heavy Attack without a taunt... It could even be under the Heavy Armor Passive. While wearing 5-7 pieces of Heavy Armor your Ice Staff Heavy attack applies a Taunt..

Just a fun thought! Cheers :)

Wouldn't be any different from how werewolves will taunt with their Heavy Attacks (even partially charged ones) when they have Deafening Roar slotted while transformed. It'd be a free of cost taunt, but the problem then becomes how damage dealers who want to use those tools (Deafening Roar and Ice Staves, in their respective cases) will use Heavy Attacks without taunting.

Ice staff Heavy Attack taunt was already a thing. When the redid destro staffs, THey removed it from HA and threw it on Destructive Clench.

As said, it was a thing already and got removed. I don’t think it’d be very useful for tanks anyways— the taunt options we have give additional bonuses.

Did anyone posting about dps read my potential passive with HA ICE Staff taunt connected to 5-7 pieces of Heavy Armor. In what world is a PVE player running 5-7 pieces of Heavy Armor?

It sounds like the purpose of this is to enable fake tanks to be less fake. But still fake.

    No.

Possibly because you formatted it as an alternative, not the primary suggestion.

I don't think you'd need to limit it to Ice Staves if it was a Heavy Armor passive. Just make it so all heavy attacks while in 5+ heavy always taunt. If you don't want that ability then you could just not take the passive. Of course then a tank wearing 5 medium or 5 light (or <4 heavy) might complain but these are very small number I imagine.

It would still be a bad taunt - Undaunted & scribing taints are much better than frost taunt currently

People don't read beyond what they think is being said.

Although when it comes to DDs in heavy armor, you might be surprised how often this happens in pugs.

Even if linked to heavy armor, still should be no, maybe if something was removed, e.g. it removes the resource regen. To be able to taunt and regen resources in the same action seems wrong.

It was removed for a reason, there are a ton of sources of both mag and stam taunts now. TBH I wish they would remove some of the taunts from skills like toppling charge, so I don't steal taunt from the tank.

Nah, tanks already have plenty of taunt options. And you can accidentally over-taunt some enemies and end up losing taunt entirely that way. I'd rather not have that happen because I am heavy attacking to gain resources back between blocks.

In trials it is very possible that more than one player is wearing a compliment of heavy gear and wielding a Frost Staff.

And with so many taunt options already available, adding or modifying a passive to accommodate this would just be overcomplicating a simple concept.

Or is this an attempt to score a 28m range taunt skill without having to take up a slot on the skill bar?

Used to be in the game, but they removed it. It was annoying to me since I had to unlevel the passive completely in order to make my ice mage work, so I hope they don't bring this back tbh, unless maybe they could add an optional 6th passive ability for destruction staff specifically for this.

As someone learning tanking, I agree. Those pesky healers. Always letting me die. 😅

Just wanna add my voice to the chorus of no please. The other night we were having a training vet trial run in my social guild. It was my first time tanking at that level and a dps kept taunting away from me leading to unnecessary deaths and wipes. Now the idea to have a ranged taunt without taking up bar space is intriguing and could see that on an arena weapon or something. That would be easier to check for then having people looking in passives or morphs to see if they're stealing taunt by accident.

I saw too many DDs in heavy armour with ice staff so a big NO THANK YOU.

I can't emphasize how big the no thank you is.

Also I'd argue the time for a HA is just way too low for it to be an effective taunt.

I like the idea, like how werewolves do it. The only thing would be to make it attached to a passive that can be turned off or on for people who like frost mage dps.

There was a big problem with the new templar charge skill change where all options now have a taunt and it ruined a fun playstyle for dps. Where in reality only one of the morphs needed to have a taunt.

I'd rather the whole defensive tankiness be decoupled from ice and given to a new Alteration/Thaumaturgy staff line.

I wouldn’t want a taunt to be linked to just wearing five pieces of heavy armor because my IA build is heavy armor and I sometimes use that character for other things too, and forget to switch out the armor.

There are a lot of fake dps running sword and board too, this isn't Skyrim boys. The game doesn't teach people well, I see a lot of new streamers try ESO and they put points into all skill lines which is a big mistake at least for higher level gameplay. I guess you do eventually get a free respec scroll, but who knows when they would figure that out without a chat member guiding them.

No, for all the good reasons above. Why would you want to taunt through heavy attack anyway though, they take forever to go off. Easy way to lose aggro if you don't have a second taunt slotted. And if then, why you need 2?

I am a tank in full medium armor (don't worry, I still hit the resistance cap but now I get block cost and no Additional % Magic Damage passive like heavy armor does) and I would like to have access to this if they make it a thing.

Pidgeonholing tanks into ice-staff-or-snb-only is already bad. Pidgeonholing them into "ice-staff-or-snb-and-heavy-armor-only" is even worse :P
