Scribing Now Works with Passives (Missed in Patch Notes?)

Hey yall. I don't know about you, but Scribing abilities seemed objectively better than some of their vanilla counterparts, particularly when comparing Ulfsild's Contingency versus Degeneration. This was balanced by the fast that they didn't have bonuses from the skill line passives they were in (max magicka in this case).

It would seem that currently on the PTS, all Scribing skills are now benefiting from their home skill lines. This makes things like banner much more affordable to use, since you now get 10% magicka recovery just for slotting it. This is a massive buff to the efficacy of scribing skills, and I thought it would be nice to share some good news given the state of the current PTS.

That is good news. It kind of amazes me that they released most of scribing woefully underpowered and have had to fix that over several patches. They usually do the opposite: release way overpowered to get people to buy the chapter then nerf the bejeezus out of it.

Scribing abilities have always adopted the passives from their parent skill line, though.

When Scribing was first on the PTS, I made a note of how Torchbearer meant the maximum bonus of Slayer went up from 15% to 18%, since we can now slot a Fighters Guild ability on every skill slot on a single bar.


This also applies to the Mages Guild passive Magicka Controller, since Ulfsild's Contingency is a Mages Guild skill.



Neither of the above examples were possible before because both skill lines only had 4 Actives and 1 Ultimate — the Scribing abilities are the 5th Active skills for the respective lines.

On liev, slotting banner already provides 10% magicka recovery. Contingency also provides 2% max magicka & magicka recovery.
In fact, I think Scribing has always received the passive bonus of its skill line, and this is not a change on the PTS.

I definitely checked for the max magicka bonus, and it 100% was not being provided on live from Ulfsild’s contingency.

IIRC on Live (or at least in past patches when I tried to use it) the DW Scribing was definitely not benefiting from the cost reduction passive from that skill line, which made it crazily expensive.

Hopefully, that is fixed on the PTS.

I’m pretty certain that those inconsistencies are visual bugs. Similar to how scribing tooltips display incorrect values for different damage types with sorcerer’s energized passive which I confirmed to be purely visual, the passive in fact interacts with skills correctly.

ok i test in live server, all scribe still can own passive like i know,i lost 2% max magic when i remove mage guild scribe

Did anyone test soul magic?
I know the soul burst passive wasn't working when you had a scribed soul magic ability slotted.
