What is the main activity you do when playing ESO?

Was wondering what people visit the forums for mostly as I usually see PVE, PVP, or housing related questions which then lead me to the question....

When you are playing ESO what is the MAIN activity you spend your time doing when playing?

It's changed over the years but I've done most all other content to death and for I'd say the last three years PVP. So drum roll please, a POLL!

My primary activity changes. Right now it's dungeons, but only until I complete the undaunted achievements (the 100 quests for the three quest givers). Then dungeons will pretty much drop off my radar (I don't care about the sticky book).

I'm also spending time chasing antiquities leads.

Exploring on whichever girl I'm playing; however, that also includes questing, and RPing girls' stories in my mind. And a little bit of housing (which I'm not very good at - RIFT's housing setup was SO far beyond what we have in this game that I have a hard time dealing with it here).

Hard to answer that poll, to be honest. The main reason why I started playing ESO was that it's a TES game and I'm interested in the world and lore. So my main focus was the narrational and lore part: Exploring, questing. I also do dungeons for that reason - if soloable or occasionally with one real life friend. As my interest for social interactions is generally very limited, I don't do trials - it's a bit of a pity for the lore I miss, but that's fine, I can still read it on UESP and not every part of a game has to cater to everyone anyway. I have no interest for PvP in ESO, no matter which type, because it has no lore/narration part (but, as I said, it's fine that not everything in the game is of interest for me personally - actually I prefer it to cater to as many different people and play styles as possible).

But what am I actually doing as someone who has been playing for about 9 years (although not even that much a day, maybe up to about 2 hours an evening) and has done all quests already? Chores. Chatting with mentioned friend while doing chores. Housing. Selling stuff to fund my housing. Waiting for new interesting content to drop. Hopefully well-written one, but that's another topic.

When I'm waiting in queue for a dungeon I often explore the world around me. Then I explore the dungeon and battling monsters with my group. It's fun.

Technically I do trials more right now just by virtue of what cores are running and my lack of desire to play, but I’m a dungeon main. If I go back to playing again I’d probably go back to doing several dungeons a day.

I mostly do Endeavors and participate in Events because of FOMO. The rest is random, whatever happens...

When I started ESO in January 2017, at level 3 you COULD die to a trash mob, and I did. At that time I got scared and decided "I won't do anything else other than grinding levels to become immortal".

7.000+ Dolmens later, I'm CP 2.000+ and I can solo anything that is soloable. I have the whole Tamriel waiting for me, except... They nerfed every enemy to the point I can aggro 20 trash mobs and stand still without the risk of dying.

Don't get me wrong: I LOVE being op, but I spent 8 years to become immortal and now it is not really that necessary, aside from the hardest content, which is like 10% of the game... The only 10% I already played... That leaves me with the remaining 90% that has become "a visual novel" since basically I'm only reading dialogues and sneezing to enemies XD

I want to specify one thing: I am not complaining about my character being too strong, I'm happy to be op like this, really, I worked hard for it!
The problem came when I created an Arcanist and at level 3 it could basically be as op as my 2.000+CP main... Now THAT was a bit disappointing...

I get it is cool to be strong immediately, but it takes away from the experience of progression. Hope ESO gets better at this in 2025.

    Sorry for the rant.

I want to pvp in eso, but I hate the way it is right now. For me, it's the worst pvp I've ever played. I feel it caters to pubstompers and players who are afraid to die in pvp games with few good fights ever found.

Mods, I am not trying to bash anyone. These are my legitimate feelings. I love the core mechanics of eso pvp and think it has the potential to be an all-time classic game like daoc, but it's failing to live up to its potential. I don't criticize it for sake of criticism but because I want it to be better.

By "good fight" consider in hockey that no one thinks a 4-0 sweep in a 7 game series would be a classic, nor does anyone care for the teams that win all their games by going into a defensive trap and winning by playing a boring style.

Good fights are close with big blows and close calls with each side trying to land haymakers in fights that don't drag on forever. In ESO you're basically crit farming until the other guy gets lagged or tired or bored with both sides constantly resetting to full resources. zzzzz.

This is what happened one afternoon when I beat a popular-by-eso-standards streamer in an impromptu 1v1 in open world builds. I was curious, so I watched the vod and I couldn't believe I was watching the same fight. pvp in this game is flat-out broken.

You might think after reading the above I think of myself as some kind of pvp badass. No. I'm middle aged, past my prime, over the hill and absolutely mid-tier in any game with a big pvp audience. It's only because the floor is so high and the ceiling so low that I can do so well in eso if I try.

So I'm into trials for now, but there's not much to do. For there to be a proper pve end game, they would need to at least triple the content output imo.

I think it says a lot that I've observed more oldschool cyrodilic players in the trial community than I did pvping.

The main GH campaign has not had full bars during evening prime time though for a couple of weeks, and I can’t do tower chases or fight ball groups inside home keeps anymore so I have been taking a break from that activity, hoping it will improve in the future.

There needs to be an option called Riding in Cyrodiil. It's more like exploring or compulsory long riding with occasional assassinations. Including it under "Cyrodiil" is quite misleading.

I realise I'll never finish all of the quests in all of the DLC I own. In the past whenever I started a new character I have repeated the initial quests. If I'd done new quests on each toon I maybe would have been able to follow all the stories.

Though, while it would ideally be working my way through the plethora of actual quests I'm interested in doing... Most of the time it's just Daily Quests after which I'm either burned out on playing the game or out of time to play due to how much time these can take (Due to the ridiculous number of them that still provide me some benefit)

I like the idea of the poll and think the information would be interesting, however, I do not think most people's play styles are easily defined in the terms provided. I think one of the best things about ESO is the variety of activities presented which allow players the chance to select what they want to do during any given session. For me, I like doing surveys and farming mats (exploring?) and then selling them in my trading guilds (vendoring?). Yet, I do these activities while queueing for dungeons. My favorite part of the game itself is questing, but as I've been playing for so many years, this takes up less time, but given the opportunity it is what I would do more of. I do still take alts through favorite arcs from time to time though.

I could go on, but I think you see where I'm coming from. Thanks for your post though as it was very thought provoking!

    Happy hunting!
