Don't wanna sound ungrateful but to be honest ....

the 21 skill styles we got for free today are quite a flop. Here are some things I didn't like and things that were okay. Like I said, I don't want to sound ungrateful and I appreciate the fact that they're all free, but the skill color change alone really isn't that impressive when we compare it to all the other skill styles we've gotten so far. I know it sounds delusional, but when they announced that we would be getting these skill styles, I was hoping for some new additional “animations”, if you know what I mean. For Arctic Wind, for example, I would have liked to see either a new skill style with swirling snowflakes or for them to pick up on the nature theme with orange or green leaves and not just change the color to orange.
The color themes don't even match the classes themselves. You would have thought that the Templar would get a white, more divine-like color theme. The Necro something more "purpley", the Nightblade (not transparent purple) and the Arcanist something darker than the bright blue that is basically the same for the Plar.
Another big “no-no” is the 2k crowns we are asked to pay for the Matriarch skin. Of course, no one has to buy it if they don't want to spend that much crowns on it, but let's be honest. The Matriarch is present in most PvE builds and also in some PvP builds. Asking 2k for 1 skill style seems like a big joke to me. It's most likely worth 500 crowns (or less the way it is right now) and that's it.
But .... I think the red color for the Sorc fits though .... so it's not that bad.
In conclusion, I personally would have liked it if they gave us some “real” skill styles with new animations and better coloring, but oh well ... You can't ask for too much when it's free, I guess. I'd rather pay a reasonable amount of crowns for 3 skills for each class sold separately, but at least with a proper rework and not like this.
Let me know what you guys think of the new skill styles :)

I've been liking the new skill styles for the most part. I do agree I would have loved new animations but that might be testing the new system or they want to save new animations for new scribed skills for classes. I personally would love some new fire themed skills

By far the worst one is the arctic wind one. Orange does not suit it at all.

I think the theme with this bundle is to change class aesthetics, for example turning sorc red and NB purple. I think it's really cool they gave out so many styles for free (even though I don't use them for visual/sensory reasons).

I think the orange is fine if you have a toon that's not warden themed. Thinking more about it, another thing I would love is some skins that make arcanist and sorc skills less daedra theme

I've been dreaming of purple nightblade skills since I first started playing this game. It suits one of my characters perfectly, so I do love it. But it doesn't suit another one of my nightblades at all. I've seen purple as a common desired color for nightblade skills over the years, though.

I'm not really into the red that much for one of my sorcerers. I would've preferred gold or fuchsia for the sorc skills. But I'm pretty sure red is one of the higher desired colors for sorc skills based on what I've heard from people.

So, I don't think the color choices are bad, but I do think just one color option is. I feel like two colors for each of the class skills that are in the pack would've been cool. Obviously like 10 of them, or a color pick feature, would be the best, but yeah.

edit: But overall, I think the color choices for each class are actually good and fit what I'd guess would be most popular with players, especially dragonknight's blue, nightblade's purple, sorcerer's red, and necromancer's red.

I can agree warden's orange might not be a likely most popular color choice like dragonknight's blue flames are, but I think it suits the shalks and mushrooms skills. Maybe purple would've been a better choice. I'm not sure what warden players would've most wanted.

This is just what the majority of these early skill style are though.

    Just a colour change.

That may or may not make much sense (Like the Destro staff styles that just turn your Fire/Lightning/Ice purple)

This isn't the entire extent of the system though, given that we do have some styles that exist that do provide actual VFX changes such as the Lavaburst Puncture (Making it lava-y) and Wildburn Force Shock (Making it frosty + naturey). Which lead to me making a thread about such things.

It's yet to be seen what they have planned for class skills, whether we'll see much in the way of VFX changes that change the theming of a class.

But for now most styles will simply be palette swaps.

genuinely as a player who cares a lot about visuals etc. in the game, I was hoping for more unique colour themes ... the ones they gave us with the bundle are too "basic" in my opinion. Something cosmic (like the new arms pack they're introducing) would have been nice on the sorc or "void" themed on the nightblade if u get what I mean.

I think the thought process for sorcs getting red is that if you give them red, then vamp sorcs can run red lightning and look like they're channeling harrowstorms.

One thing I find kind of neat is that because DK whip keeps the same hand grip for the animation as the weapon you're using (unless my game is just bugged), if you run gloambound greatsword with blue whip, since they're the same color it makes it look like your bound weapon is melting into a sword-whip.

With arcanist my gripe is less the blue (I can make the blue work) and more that your crux stay green. So even if you were able to have your full kit match colors visually, and could turn all of your abilities blue eventually, you'd still have those green crux throwing off the consistency of your character aesthetic.

Free to obtain doesn't mean free from feedback. I'm definitely going to use most of them, but I can still say that I think new class skill styles should be the same colors as these, otherwise it'll be a bit of a colorful mess. Skills other than class skills can be colorful fine, but class skills should be similar or an agreeable color. Orange on arctic wind and red for the Daedric Twilight (not free but the criticism stands) are ugly in design, and in my opinion don't work as well as other skills would have.

I'd argue that making it easier for players to have dramatically different color schemes in their builds is a good thing. For instance, Templars don't need to have only yellow skills — they could use blue Class skills, and pair those with blue Skill Styles for other skill line abilities, such as Vigor, Soothing Blue.

What I'm saying is that these Class Skill Styles open up more options for color palette swaps. Previously, a Templar using Biting Jabs probably wouldn't want to use Vigor, Soothing Blue because the standard Vigor look is yellow, which matches the standard look of Biting Jabs — but now with Puncturing Strikes, Ice Blue, a Templar could go all in on the blue color palette with a variety of skills.

So I gather from this discussion that the skill colors show up somewhere? I have tried turning them on (choosing the alter color for the skills I have) but I don't see a change anywhere,

They display when you use the skill you have recolored. So if you are using Vigor Soothing Blue, when you heal yourself with Vigor the skill display will be blue instead of green.

I'm pretty sure they've mentioned that it is their intention to provide colours for ALL skills of a particular class (Or skill line)

Meaning that, yes, we will eventually get the remaining skills in the same colour schemes as the current skill styles

Not only for the recent class skills, but also the other skill lines such as the Purple Psijic skills, Purple Destro staff skills, Purple Resto staff skills, Purple Fighter's Guild skills, Purple Soul Magic skills etc. (I wonder what the lead designer's favourite colour is?)

Why is no one bringing up the most obvious issue.

Take the new arctic wind style, it is supposed to be an Ice Spell but now looks like a Fire spell, if someone you're fighting against is using this skill you may think they are using a fire based attack.

I think the Skill Styles should also change the damage type, make these deal fire damage instead of ice damage and this should apply to all the skills.

Yeah, I was thinking that as well. I might pick up the Winter Skill Style bundle, depending on its price, for my Warden. It would be great if Volley and Stampede would then deal Frost Damage to go along with those frosty visual effects.

The issue is that Skill Styles are supposed to be purely cosmetic.

While changing damage types has an actual impact on gameplay (Notably, what status effects they create, as well as various damage type specific mechanics such as Warden's Piercing Cold passive, DK's Engulfing Flames and set procs like EC)
