Which companion is the best?

A companion is a best friend your character can get in the game. My favorite so far is ember because khajiits are awesome and ember is funny.

    Sharp
    Sharp is my favourite.

His skills quite good and very flexible for whatever role you might want him to do,

He's also not annoying because he doesn't have any commonly done things that provide negative rapport (You can steal, murder, loot whatever you want, eat/drink whatever you want etc). While it's easy enough to dismiss him when you want to go pickpocket the poor or pay off your bounty with a guard (Which I sometimes do because if I don't have any stolen goods then it's simply easier than going to an Outlaw Refuge)

    Zerith-var
Zerith-var has become the perfect companion for my Khajiit sorcerer. Even his abilities function well with my playstyle, while with most companions I've found them to be just simple RPG fluff running around with me for little to no reason.
I also enjoy Isobel, Ember, and Sharp quite a bit as well.... but Zerith is definitely #1 by far.

For me it's a tie between Azandar and Sharp. I love Sharp's personality a lot but I use Azandar most of the time because he tanks for me. And the only time I have a Companion with me is if I'm soloing Dungeons, or World Bosses, or other such content, so a tank would be more helpful.

    Mirri
My favorite depends on which character I'm playing at the time! Though I voted Mirri, because she's my first companion, so I have a soft spot for her. She really fit into the dynamic of the eclectic "family" of thieves running rampant on my account. I love having her out with my first character, and PVE main, my bosmer nightblade, because he's just as sassy as she is.

But, I also adore Isobel, because she suits my PVP main's personality perfectly. He's also a Templar, so they share a lot in common. In many ways, she reminds him of his more idealistic, younger self. When he's out questing, he always has either her or Ember by his side. I also use Bastian with him, because although their ideals align, the rigidness of Bastian's views doesn't always gel with my templar, and I like that the two characters end up challenging each other's perspectives in my personal stories.

I'm looking forwards to getting Zerith-Var on him as well, as I feel he'd also connect to him.

I also love Sharps. I favor having him out along side my dark elf arcanist. She's the most morally ambiguous character on my account, and is heavily inclined towards taking her vengeance on those whom she feels have done wrong- especially if wrong was done to someone she cares about. Her methods aren't necessarily right, nor is her view of what constitutes good and evil exactly in line with what you'd think of as traditionally heroic. But she feels a great deal of sympathy for Sharps, and playing through his story became the motivator which shifted her character towards a more compassionate perspective.

I tend to enjoy companions for how they end up influencing the development of my own characters and what ideas they evoked during their quest line. I'm constantly bouncing my personal stories for my characters off of the game world to get ideas for how my characters would react to situations and friends I did not create for them. My favorites tend to be those that caused character development- whether that be because the companion meshed with them, or because the companion challenged my character in a way that I found interesting.

I appreciate Azandar as a character, but I don't have anyone whose personality sparked with his yet. Hopefully I'll find a way for one of my future characters will connect to him.

    Zerith-var
    I now use Zerith-var as a tank.
I like his skills, I gave him a Skingrad outfit stlye ( using color combination of Marble White and Void pitch) and add Thurvokun dagger and shield. He has a white head, blue eyes and looks gorgeous in combat, the slight greenish glow on the shield and dagger is an amazing match for him and he's a joy to look at when he fights.
The only thing I don't like about him is his Perk (personally I'm totally uninterested in Heavy Sacks) and his ultimate (magicka steal is useless to me, BTW, I don't know why companions only have one ultimate, it would be nice if each of their skill lines had one ultimate available and the player could choose which one suits them best). But otherwise I love it.

Before adding new companions to the Live server I wanted Tanlorin (primarily because of the Perk he has), however once I saw in game what he looks like + what skills he has then Tanlorin was a big and definite NO for me.

Before Zerith-var I was using Azandar as a tank, he is also awesome, has cool skills, applies debuff on enemies..

I very rarely use companions. I have the first 3 companions only. I stop caring after that.

The few times I need one, I take Bastian. In 95% of the cases, he is doing exactly that what I expect from him, so I'm happy with him. :D

Your question is shaking my mind because: who is my favourite? Isobel without a doubt is the one I adore... But you asked implying which is "our best friend" so... While I adore Isobel, the term friend is something I tend to relate more to complicity and affinity in, let's say, making jokes and stuff like that. I love Isobel, but she is not the "funny type" of person, so not much "friendlyable".

As best friend... I don't know, honestly. Like, I enjoy people like Ember around, but in the long run they can be "heavy". Same could be said for people like Sharp. So I really don't know... I have high hopes for Zerith, when I'll meet him; could he become my best friend? I'll see.

Well I like both Isobel and Mirri. Bastian is also ok. The rest were not exactly my cup of tea. But honestly there is no companion that I love to have around.

I'd love to create my own companion from the ground up or use one of my alts as one. They do not need to have a story but they need to fit my preferences, for a specific role both lore and game mecanic wise, that I want them to take.

Conversation wise, Sharp-as-Bricks is probably the best. Big plus that he isn't made sad by most of the things that I do on my characters, so that makes him easier to use.

How do you have your Zander set up? I've heard from people he makes a miserable tank, so I'm curious. I use Bastion exclusively for tanking currently. But his chain becomes annoying sometimes since he has a habit of pulling at the wrong times.

    Zerith-var
Zenith-var is tied with Ember, depending on whether Khajiit is feeling particularly naughty, or paritcularly nice, with Sharp not that far behind.

For bald-bottoms, this one enjoys Mirri's company somewhat, along with Isobel's.

For story content, Zenith-var's is by far the best, and in fact the best questline ESO has introduced in many years in this one's eyes.

Companions are mostly a roleplaying thing for me, so the question for me mainly is how they would get along with the character I'm playing (while being likeable to real-world-me is also a big plus, of course). And although Mirri is a bit like a little sister to my main, and he also finds Isobel quite likeable, the one he would enjoy being around most is Azandar, without any doubt. While being of different ages and cultures, they have a lot of interests in common and I see them deeply respecting each other and enjoying each other's insights.

I personally also enjoy Zerith-var's writing very much (so far, haven't finished the whole questline yet), but while I enjoy the writing, he and my main just don't match that much.
