About HDR

I like the inclusion of HDR.

I tried it and I will probably be able to finally let go of a bunch of ReShade filters with it. Thank for implementing this.

However @ZOS_Kevin; when you use the HDR the calibration tool is gone. (You know the one with the 3 logo's to tune brightness). Can we also have such a version of the tool for HDR like most games with HDR have? It would be very handy to tweak stuff when there are now 5 sliders, instead of one.

Also a vibrancy slider would be nice instead of MAX or OFF.

Just some feedback from a HDR screen user.

Onward to updating the game's FSR and DLSS implementations!

    They've come a long way since 2021!

I didnt know HDR was coming and the first few minutes I was trying to figure out did ESO just got a graphics update or wth is going on with my setup :D

Yea it's amazing but as OT says please add a slider for Vibrance !

The game needs a reference for setting HDR. Be it a static image or a scene with some instruction on what to do - "slide until you can/cannot see something".

Also, the dark UI background is always near invisible. I cannot do anything to make it opaque enough to actually provide me with a dark enough background for reading light text. As a result, my chat (and other textual UI) is completely unreadable.

Yeah with the right settings it has quite the effect on details and image quality. I love it. It is better than the fake HDR filters I used to apply.

But we need a vibrance slider and reference images to calibrate stuff

Since the feature says BETA I made this thread because I hope or feedback is considered.

This HDR implementation is the same terrible one they have on consoles. The normal was is very washed out and the vibrant one is an over saturated neon mess.

I disabled it in my settings and let W11 auto HDR handle it again. Much better looking to my eyes. I have an AW3423DWF OLED monitor calibrated with the HDR app from the windows store. Its unbelievable how much better that was than what they implemented.

That is weird I have the opposite experience

I have a Samsung Odyssey Mini LED and it look a lot better on my setup.

That is the weird thing with HDR though. The experience can vary vastly across monitors. I have had games that looked terrible on my monitor but great on my TV.

Might be same for me as im gaming on LG CX oled tv.

Might have reconfig Reshade while waiting for the slider I guess..

Thanks for the feedback. There are plans to revisit HDR sliders in the future. So your feedback is already on the books there! You should be able to access 2 "HDR Scene" settings once you are in-game to tune your settings currently.

Does the game auto detect if you have an HDR capable monitor and the option to turn it on not even show up if you don’t?

It did for me. I had to go into my user settings to disable it.

SET HDR_ENABLED "1" was the default and I changed it to "0"

DLSS Swapper works, don't try to use the 3.x versions, stick to the 2.x series but you can definitely get a newer build than is bundled with ESO.

With HDR scene: you mean the Default/Vibrant setting?

While I appreciate that new option but this is not granular enough. You have either more washed out (Default) or way too saturated (Vibrant). A slider for this should be better. I would probably land on 20 - 25 percent vibrancy. Such a slider would also be useful for console players on their TVs

That said, the current HDR settings already made a huge difference visually for me. I tested out the 'remove obsolete files' to delete ReShade after all these years. :)

I had to increase my SDR brightness from my monitors settings to make things not look all grey and washed out. It helped a ton, but it didn't quite solve the same issue that @Aliniel had where the UI seems to be kind of faded.

Maybe it's just my eyes trying to adjust to HDR, but it seems like there's some kind of adaptive brightness setting in play? I notice when I open my menu, things seem okay for a few seconds before becoming a bit more dull. This can also change based on if the background is dark or bright when my menu is open. Again, could just be my eyes trying to adjust to HDR (I literally never used it for more then 5 seconds because it was always washed out in the past), but figured I'd ask and see if anyone else might have the same issue.

ESO doesn't have adaptive brightness I think.

This must be a monitor settings. A lot of monitors and TV's have settings like EyeComfort or EyeCare etc that dim brighter colors automatically.

Yes. But you will only see this setting if you have a HDR screen and HDR is enabled in Windows.

It relegates the "check" to windows, where you have to make it enabled there. My laptop screen shows up as not HDR capable in Windows settings so the option in game is not even visible.

Almost every new game does this the past years. Some games like Diablo 4 don't have Exclusive Fullscreen anymore.

It had advantages with older versions of Windows and DirectX in the past. But not so much today.

I did some digging and I think my monitor is too old to support HDR. It’s 4K but it’s old 🥲

HDR screenshots would be useless to you if you don't have a proper HDR monitor. There are plenty monitors which claim to support "HDR400", and they do, but it's essentially good for nothing (have one such monitor myself). What you really want for a full HDR experience is a an OLED or a Mini LED monitor - both of which start somewhere at $700 price.

There are plenty of good "What is HDR" videos on the YouTube which can explain it better than me, so go check one out if you're curious about it. Personally, I find HDR and OLEDs to be the best thing to have had happened to the multimedia and display technologies so far.

HDR seems to mess with the anti-aliasing on text, showing jaggies and pixilation. I had to turn the UI brightness way down, but it’s still jaggy.

I agree vibrancy is too neon, and needs a slider so we can add a little sparkle without looking radioactive.

Mine too, but that's fine. After seeing what a couple of techies in the family have with HDR (not in ESO, other games) I doubt I want it anyway.

When we got HDR and 4K on PS I was blown away by the detail. We only had that horrible Vibrant version at first though, so fires were bright red and everything else was bright blue. Ugh. Glad they added the Default later.
