Golden Pursuits reeks more of desperation on the part of ZOS than anything.

Personally, I know what I like to do in game, I have been playing more than long enough to have figured that out. I am not going go do activities I do not like in pursuit of some useless cosmetic reward.

Rather than create new content, they are trying to come up with systems to keep people doing the same old content. First Endeavors and now Golden Pursuits, which is really just a repackaged and more complex version of Endeavors. All aimed at getting the player to spend more time logged in doing old, stale content.

I was watching PTS reviews on YouTube. It looks like Golden Pursuits will have PVP aspects (just like the current Endeavor system). So, if you don't PVP, I guess you won't be able to earn the final apex reward for completing all the pursuits in the given time slot.

    Endeavors 2.0 (just more grindy)

For me it would depend upon what was required for the PvP aspects. I'm not good at PvP, so I tend to stay out of it. But I have earned enough AP during double AP events to unlock skills used for PvE group play.

And I would hope ZOS would make the Golden Pursuits "possible" for most players.

Golden Pursuits also seems to be pretty much a repackaged version of the World of Warcraft Trading Post and how you earn Traders Tender for the Trading Post.

Sorta, but the difference is in WoW is you have a month to finish a much larger variety of activities and it also gives you a lot more tasks that you have to do. You also pick from a big list of available items with a capstone reward, so it seems like golden pursuits are kinda TRYING to do this, but in reality it feels like a discount version of it.

They're not continually being updated campaign after campaign (there can be MONTHS in between), you don't get to pick the lesser rewards, etc. It's better than nothing for sure! Definitely has room for improvement and is absolutely a step in the right direction in my opinion.

I definitely don't think this is anywhere near as grindy. You get a list of activities you can complete all in 1 day over a 2 week campaign, and then there's lots of time off in between.

With endeavors you have to do them every single day and every month if you want to get the radiant apex mount, which takes 6-8 months. Getting the capstone reward here will take most a day... doesn't seem anywhere near as grindy. Endeavors 2.0 for sure in the fashion that it's a significantly better system.

Endeavors were never meant to even give us a tangible reward. I mean 6-8mo? Come on. They were just enacted when microsoft purchased ZOS so that they'd adhere to their company policy of loot crate loot being available in game technically.

I try not to complain much due to bans being handed out left and right on the forums. But this is another tactic used to prolong a games existence instead of adding actual content or anything meaningful to the game to keep people engaged and more importantly having a fun time. I think we’ve reached the point of there not being enough variety of things to do that people actually enjoy. I’m assuming why the game adds more and more events to keep people chasing the next thing that why they don’t have time to sit down and actually realize just how boring the game is.

I’m not hating on the game by any means but most players are not new players the majority is old players. We’ve already done everything there is to do and while they can never pump out enough content to keep people busy until the next chapter. They could actually use this time to develop other things to do that people enjoy. IA was a good idea but the execution wasn’t that great and a lot of people don’t like it because of the way they built the system around it to work.

So I feel like this is just another thing for players to chase until the next chapter release. That’s unfortunate but it seems a lot of the team is working on their new MMO and eso is on maintenance mode. I would be a lot happier if this was added and the game was breathing new life into it but it’s pretty stale and stagnant.

For me I'd like to see less focus on grindy small time activities for rewards, even if they are slightly better rewards than other activities. What we need is an all hands on deck effort to deal with performance issues and reviving Cyrodiil PvP. Maybe even admit some of the horrible mistakes ZOS made with U35 and reverting the jabs animation to something rational.

It just seems like ZOS is shooting at entirely the wrong target the last 3-4 years.

One of the pvp aspects i've seen was doing 1 single battleground. You can join and afk pretty much and finish that, so seems like a non-issue for those vehemently against pvp.

People who AFK in battlegrounds should be kicked from group ASAP. And they should get at least a one hour penalty for not helping their group.

I think that ESO does not currently have an option to kick from group in battlegrounds. Also, I think the game will kick a player from a battleground if they stay in one spot without moving or casting any skills.

Not sure why ESO needs another "free stuff" system.

At least it doesn't replace what we have with a FOMO grind (looking at you GW2)

I think there are so many limitations code-wise, engine-wise, etc. which is why it's taken so long to do anything. Even if performance did improve, it still doesn't fix a fundamental issue with pvp as well, which is reward structure. There's also been some pretty permanent damage done to the game by not giving the pvp crowd anything for so long. Even now, with the cool new battleground stuff, that's not going to bring in a flood of new and ex-eso-pvp players.

Agreed. We'll have a number of systems now (endeavors, dailies, golden pursuits, and some events) that essentially have us doing the same types of things over and over again. At some point ZOS will have to add NEW stuff to do.

The game doesn't kick you. The only thing you should do is to move once per minute. Isn't hard to achieve.

It is indeed liberating to realize that you don't "have" to do something in the game that you've been stressing about, be it daily and weekly endeavors, daily crafting writs, daily ToT matches, daily RND runs, collecting all of the leads for some mythic gear that the "top players" have determined to be essential to playing the game, etc. But there's nothing wrong with doing any of those things, either, if that's what someone wants to do.

There will be "new content," unless you don't consider the new companions and their associated quests to be "content."

And there will be new content in future chapters, DLCs, and updates.

ESO has always contained a mix of "repeatable content" and "one-and-done" content, as have the single-player TES games. Personally, I enjoy doing both types of content. I'm not sure why some players decided to make the term "repeatable content" some sort of bludgeon with which to bash this game and its devs, but I'm thankful that there will always be things for me to do in the game even after I've completed all of its "one-and-done" content.

I don't personally understand why people are so excited for Golden Pursuits, when Update 44 has more interesting features to me like the new Battlegrounds or the new Companions. From what I'm reading, players are excited to have more content to earn in-game.

I recall that the lack of earnable content in-game was one of the long-standing complaints that players had, so it's nice to see ZOS acting on player feedback.

I think it's a good idea that Golden Pursuits encourage players to try other aspects of the game, because they might find something that they like. Also, it's good that these Golden Pursuits don't run every day the way Endeavors do, because they'll encourage more players to participate by being themed and sporadic. I'll probably try to complete every Golden Pursuit just out of principle of being given a goal to reach.

The playerbase of the majority didn’t ask for this but we don’t get heard. But let a small percentage of players ask for something that’s easy to implement with more cosmetics, mounts, pets that will add to an already 100s of others most people won’t use. But hey if it makes people happy to fill their collectibles with stuff they will never use. Cheers I guess.

Apparently you weren't around, or just wasn't paying attention, during the fiasco that was call Jubilee. Because if you were, you'd recall how the forums were overrun with players screaming their heads off demanding a solution to the disaster created by current RNG mechanics for handing out event rewards.

Now they've come up with a rather good replacedment. And now all players can seem to do is look down their noses at it. Absolutely brilliant.

I've seen identical systems in mobile games many times. Their goal is to keep the player in the game. Don't expect too much, then you won't be disappointed. I see that this is an online management tool that will not increase the quality of life of the players.

Although I personally don't feel a burning need to buy more non-combat pets and mounts from the Crown Store with my huge stack of Seals of Endeavor (I checked the other night, and I now have more than enough to buy a radiant apex mount), I see more than a few players in the game who seem to enjoy running around with the latest polymorph, non-combat pet, or mount. I don't know how they came by them-- bought with Crowns, bought with gold from players with Crowns to spare, bought with Crown Gems, bought with Seals of Endeavor, etc.-- but it's clear that some players do enjoy those sorts of collectibles.

And yes, some of the players in the forums have been complaining for years about wanting to be able to earn more rewards in the game by engaging in in-game activities, rather than having to buy them from the store. I don't know what percentage of the forum members have done that, or how accurately they reflect the attitudes of players who don't use the forums-- and it might be that they're just a very vocal minority-- but yes, they've been asking for something like this, if perhaps not something exactly like this.

I haven't been on the PTS in over a year, so I haven't previewed this new system yet and am not sure how it works, but it looks like we get rewards "directly" by earning them, as opposed to earning some sort of currency which we then spend at an NPC merchant or in the Crown Store. If that's correct, I think it's a good move, since we already have a lot of in-game currencies and don't really need any more.

I will do this activity only if there is some interesting Lead or crate among the rewards, otherwise I have no interest...
Other mounts/pets/gold etc. as a reward do not attract me personally...

Just another way to prolong a games existence and players playtime spent in game. In hopes they spend real money in the crown shop. Endeavors are already a currency for buying those mounts, skins, cosmetics, pets, ect.

Why do we need another one instead of a new activity to do ?

Simple because it’s simple and easy to implement now everybody cheers! Yay!

I'm all for prolonging ESO's existence. The day they shut down the servers will be a sad day for me, because it brings me a lot of pleasure and fun every day, despite any occasional problems I might have with it (and yes, I do have occasional problems).

For the record, I don't believe these Golden Pursuits are an attempt to prolong ESO's existence or to seduce players into using the Crown Store. I believe they are an honest attempt to give players more ways to earn in-game rewards just by completing in-game activities, which is something that some of the playerbase has been asking for.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!
