Can you spam-heal with health potions?

It's been my experience that a lot of MMOs have a long cooldown before you are able to consume your next health potion. Is it the same in ESO?

I think the lowest you can get is around 22-24 seconds with potion speed glyphs on infused jewelry.

Hapex, are those particular glyphs rare to find?

The glyph for potions is called Oru. I don't really know how common of a drop from the nodes it is though.

For the glyph nodes it's Enchanting that will affect it.

You can farm any nodes with no crafting skills but you need skills to make the glyphs.

I'll just go ahead and be an enchanter with this character then. Maybe do writs.

Some people in my other thread were curious as to why I was avoiding crafting. The truth is, I already mapped out how my eight characters are going to be. I intended my first character to be a non-crafter and then dedicated a sort of master crafter character in the future that does all of the crafting professions.

But I guess I'll just say screw it with that plan and have my first character do writs with his Enchanting skill or something.

    Another question though...

Without crafting, no character can gather. Is that correct? Crafting and gathering are tied into one another?

Infused Jewelry + Potion Speed Glyphs = 24 second reduction

5 stacks of Infinite Archive buffed Quickened Tinctures = 10 second reduction

    45 - 34 = 11 second potion cooldown.

Perhaps you should start playing a bit more?

The tooltips on these items show the cool down pretty clearly.

Oh please don't start sir. Please don't start. I'm doing my best. ESO hasn't fully downloaded yet in my PS5. Please don't give me that attitude sir because then the other jerks in this forum will join you and bully me too. Please.

In ESO, potions are mostly used for buffs. While big emergency heals exist, most of the time you use potions to get an important buff your build doesn't provide and/or to increase the rate at which you regain resources. There are ways to have the buffs last as long as the potion is on cooldown, so you can have the buffs active permanently as long as you have potions, but that's mosty an endgame thing.

If you reserve potions for emergencies: you usually run out of Stamina and Magicka first, and can no longer dodge, block or heal yourself. At this point using a big healing potion would just delay the inevitable and it's better to use a potion that restores all resources. And one of the regular login rewards is just such a potion, that will do you fine for most solo and early group content.

For (self-) healing, everyone can slot healing skills, be it from their class, from a restoration staff, or a big burst heal from the PVP skill line (can be obtained by training in your base camp, no actual PVP neccessary)

There are also skills and items that passively heal you for a portion of the damage done.

Do not gimp your build, trying to rely on potions as a heal. Every class has a self heal and access to a shield (the magic one, not the wooden one). That is all you need for all the content.
A 22 second cooldown does not sound long, but in fact it is an awful lot of time and you will end up maneuvering yourself into a situations where your potion is on cooldown when you need it the most.

If you're unhappy with any of my posts, the correct process is to use the FLAG option at the bottom of the window.

I'll expand my response to you:
Many of your questions will be answered simply by playing the game and following the main quest.
When crafting alchemy, you will see any cool down period previewed on the tooltip, before you create the potion.

    Goodbye and good luck.

If you haven't played ESO yet, but still want to know how everything works, then maybe you will find the answers you seek in one of the countless written guides and video guides for this 10 year old game.

This way you don't have to ask a million questions, and you don't have to deal with people talking to you.

Guilds, discords and all kinds of social media can be helpful for some players too. You can also watch other people play this game live on twitch. Some of them are very happy to answer questions and help new players with everything they need.

This forum is mainly used to talk about the latest changes and problems. Players usually start showing up here before they quit, not before they start playing the game. This forum is where the last remaining sparks of hope come to die. It can be a very sad and frustrating place to be honest.

This doesn't mean new players are not welcome to ask questions, but there are much easier ways to get started.

    Here's a website I like with lots info about ESO - https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Online

It seems hard to believe when you're just starting out, but one character can fully master all crafting skills and still be top notch at combat. It does take quite awhile but the key is that over the game, there are plenty of extra skill points available from numerous sources.

Using potions as your primary heal is possible I suppose but I should think you'll pay a price in devoting enchantments and such that could be used more efficiently elsewhere. For example, healing skills are much more elegant/effective and allow you to devote your enchantments elsewhere for more survivability/damage.

Good luck and enjoy ESO! :)

You craft them. You can't find them out in the world. And they come at a cost of other stats, such as sustain, weapon damage, resource stats, etc. So its usually not best to go all in on glyphs in an attempt to maximize your potion consumption, especially when those potions are being used for a one-time heal.

Instead, every class typically has some kind of healing mechanic, a good burst heal, or a heals over time ("HOTS") that you can stack to keep your health up.

Better yet, pack a healer with you and don't even worry about your health (its their problem!). And if you run solo, the companion Isabelle makes a great healer.

You can master every craft in ESO simultaneously and harvest materials even when that character doesn't know how to craft with those materials yet. You might as well learn everything on at least one character.

You have said in multiple threads you have planned out your first eight characters but above you said you are still downloading the game.....

Planning is all well and good but I think when you start playing a lot of that planning will be rethought!

Potions are not a good way to heal yourself, except in a last minute "omg I'm going to die" situation.

You have said you aren't going to craft with your first character, crafting is not fast to completely unlock, learning all the traits on armour/weapons takes months not weeks, especially without ESO+ and things like research scrolls which cost crowns or gold to buy. I recently started a new account from scratch, with my knowledge from ten years of playing, literally the first thing I did was start reasearching traits and then level up enough to get certified for all crafts so I could do crafting dailies, honestly they are the easiest source of gold.

My advice is just to play for a while and then reassess your plans, ESO is huge and there is a lot that you will only learn by playing!! 💕
