One account only. I tend to stick to one character for years. I'm currently on three characters. I stepped up from two characters to three about a month ago. I cannot imagine filling an entire account with 20 odd characters, let alone a second account.

I have two accounts, originally in order to have extra characters which I play fully and not simply as mules. I had a third account although that is largely abandoned (as my first account was but it's now reactivated with a view to my being able to play alongside my grandson on the second account now that he's up to more than just watching me - that being an additional reason to have a second account).

The only advantage I have from my second account is a second gold coffer daily during the events. I sell the event styles to my main then.
Well, sometimes it is funny to see the achievement popped up, while you totally forgot about it's existence. It is not available on alts anymore.

Also if you have 10 accounts, you can afford a personal guild bank.

Two accounts (not counting the 8 free trial accounts used to unlock a private guild bank)

The second account is basically mules with one level 40ish character that does events when the rewards can benefit my main account. There also have been some great tradeable login rewards lately, lots of gold, crafting mats, ink, and all the nice furnishings.

    several accounts.

    advantages:
    - storage: you can create up to 9 characters without buying extra characters slots, and each of such "parked" characters is a 200 slots "walking bag" (215 with 3 "inventory" pets)
    - gold and materials: doing crafting dailies on multiple characters is easy gold, surveys and master writs (it is not hard to train them to top tier), plus in "parked" state i reallocate skillpoints (with Armory) to place 3 sp for each of the hirelings
    - getting cosmetics during events: normally the event-related style page drops from the golden coffer once a day per account and these pages are tradeable, so i mail them pages to my main account (same applies to pages from Undaunted coffers)
    - collecting event furnishings, motifs and recipes to prioritize the main account, then the second one, etc.

    disadvantages:
    - time-consuming, plus the boring repetition

TL/DR; extra storage, gold and materials, plus serious help during Events for the price of the time spent.

    edit: added tl/dr;

I have 10 accounts. My main account has 20 characters and it's the only one that I use. I purchased the other 9 accounts ($5 each) just so that I could make my own guild. The 500 extra storage slots from my personal guild bank has been very useful.

I have one account with twelve characters on NA and one character on EU.

I feel like having more than one account would make it too much like work, especially since I don't just play ESO.

I have several friends with 2-3 accounts though.

I have two accounts, but I don't use one of them. I thought it would be nice to start a fresh account where no achievements were done (this was after AwA), but without ESO+ I found it too tedious to play. Fortunately it only cost me $5. Who knows, maybe someday I'll level a character on it.

I have two: the one I usually play on and one that I had to dust off because of PTS lockout back during Anniversary. I'm kinda playing on both for now, but it's mostly to get those nine traits researched on the alt account (will be done with Jewelry next week, Woodworking around Witches or shortly thereafter; let's not talk about Blacksmithing and Clothing).

The major advantage of having more than one account is the ability to get multiple rewards which have long cooldowns. Most of the rest of the advantages can be worked around with more toons on the main account, but another account gives another bite at the apple for the once-per-day stuff like gold coffers.

Side note: I sent the toon who was on PTS when the lockout happened into West Weald last night; really weird feeling to do that and kind of looking over my shoulder every step of the way.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

The benefits include being able to create characters without bringing along the baggage from other characters on other accounts. It makes them independent, which allows the game to be replayed without the bypasses that they have introduced at the account level over the years.

If you get to 10 accounts, you unlock the rare "Personal Guild Bank Achievement". Sadly, this is an informal achievement, but the benefit is nice.

The downside is that it costs more, since ESO Plus, Crowns, and Chapters do not span accounts.

It used to be that Crown Gifting could ease some of the expense, but ZOS made it pretty hard to get Gifting turned on. This can result in Crowns being "trapped" on accounts and being unable to share. In the end, it is just easier to ignore Crowns and the Crown Store than it is to try and convince ZOS that the alternate account isn't a worry for them.

I grew up with gaming (there were already computers in the household before I was born; I know my father owned a Commodore VC as well as a C64 - I still have a box of datasettes in my basement - and several IBM PCs later) and it had always remained a habit, through my whole school time and during university, as well as now. Although of course I had much more spare time during school - I miss that sometimes. And having lots of different interests hobbies also doesn't help - but then again, I have to alternate through them anyway, because there's never enough time for everything. But gaming is nothing I want to give up completely, even if it's just an hour in the evening. Especially in case of ESO, it's also communication for me; I chat with a friend who lives abroad the whole time (even if we rarely actively play together - sometimes a group dungeon once a few months).

Most of the multiple account holders I know, do it so they can log in GH on a different faction from their main. It is actually very common because I actually know some people that have 3 accounts, in order to keep up with the other faction's zone chat. When you call out a player target in zone chat and you get in instant tell from that player on another faction and they TELL you they are reading zone chat on their other account, then you know this is true.

I know one guild that consistently has one of their "extra" accounts on the other two factions logged in at GH all the time. I'm not sure this is within ZOS's TOS so I'm not encouraging it. I mean it only takes a lvl 10 to get in Cyro. But this is pretty common. And some jump in to mostly troll another faction, trying to get new players to go to the wrong places. I saw one last night doing that and someone in one of my multi faction guilds said that it was their extra account. And some will have fully maxed out toons on multiple factions, so they can play on the dominating side and rack up ap ... or whatever. Oh, I've seen groups have someone at hammer spawn locations so they can grab the hammer and turn it over. I've seen someone on my faction say they logged on their DC account to break the Ash gate down. This list of multiple account uses at GH could go on and on. But I think you get the picture @Coo_PnT because you know the workings of Cyro quite well.

    Darv

(I am not sure where this stands with ZOS's TOS, but I just telling you it happens all the time, with the same players (trolls), with them bragging in zone chat they are on another account, and nothing happens. Some of them are so common, almost everyone knows where their other faction "main" is. But I am NOT encouraging it. When something is so common, you must accept it as happening ... almost all of the time. And don't know if any of these multiple account holders have been banned (the ones I actually know haven't been), but if so, it must be a 3 day ban, because they keep returning.

I have 3 full accounts and 2 free to play accounts. I used them to make a couple guilds for storage. I "actively" play the 3 full accounts, my main account that I've had since Beta has 20 characters, my dog's account has 11, and the cat's account has 7 (one of each class).
I originally started my dog's account to experiment and compare things (like different races on the same class), but I started playing it more because I can. I've had the cat's account for a few years and didn't really play it until earlier this year, it started with logging in for daily rewards, then it evolved to getting daily endeavors/horse riding and having one of each class.
I use my accounts to port characters to new wayshrines and also share quests from account to account for dailies. I also use the 2 alt accounts to give unknown Style, Motif, or design/recipes to my main character, then distribute stuff like that to the other main toons on the other account, and then fill in on the main account or other accounts.
I take toons from my dog's account in to trials that I've already gotten the achievements and gear collected on, so it can get that stuff also. The main and dog's account have a lot of dungeon and trial achievements, and both are very much "end game" accounts.
When I first started the 2 alt accounts, I sent gold from the main account to get the others setup with bank slots/inventory slots. I also use Crowns from the accounts to gift things to which ever account might need something. The cat's account is not a plus account, but the other 2 are.
It can be very useful to have alt accounts if you play like I do, but isn't really necessary, and can end up being a handful...especially if you go to EU as well. All 3 have EU accounts also.

I think I've seen ZoS's view before that two or more accounts can be faction-locked and operate in separate factions. There is nothing we can do about it on the player side, so sometimes I get angry and tear the curtains off the room and pet and kiss the dog in the room for a long time. Then I spam them in zone chat. I am very sorry about this.

From my earlier childhood, I remember mostly graphic adventures from Sierra and Lucas Arts (things like King's Quest, Indiana Jones, Monkey Island, Loom,...) and RPGs (mostly Might and Magic, and all TES games since Arena; Morrowind was the first TES game I played on my own). My father also liked space flight games like Wing Commander and Descent (Does someone remember that? I've read many people couldn't really play it because of motion sickness :D ). I remember sitting on his knee and shooting while he did the steering. I was also allowed to make up stupid names for the hero party in M&M.

Later, when I was a bit older, I played a lot of strategy games (I still play Age of Empires II nowadays - how long is that now? 25 years?) and also a few shooters (I remember playing Unreal Tournament with my father quite well; he had been gaming the rest of his life, until he died of old age) and action rpgs. Today, It's mostly rpgs.

Just one account, though many of my friends tried to get me to make more toons on other accounts before the Anniversary event. I just can’t stand the drudgery work associated with them, even if I got more gold and other stuff. I guess everyone has their own threshold of busy work versus gameplay and that exceeds mine.

I used to do dailies on multiple toons in order to try to get more motif drops or furnishing plan drops, but the drop rate is so low it was just multiplying the amount of wasted time. I do crafting writs on 7 toons annd dailies on one and that’s about it right now.

My "home universe" has been TES since Arena released (1994). I've played a lot of other games, notably the SSI Gold Box games set in Ed Greenwood's Forgotten Realms (I started gaming in the mid 70s with D&D/AD&D pencil and paper scenarios). I never had consoles, started CRPGs when I got my first computer in 1985 (the first time I retired).

I really never played games while I was working, because I get a tad bit obsessive and wind up staying up WAY too late to work as I should the next day. So when I retired for the 3rd time in 2005 I was ready to immerse in WoW, then RIFT, and Oblivion and Skyrim. And now ESO.

As for liking the most, I'd have to say Skyrim is my all time favorite.

Nope, and to this day I still try to understand what is the point in having more than one, you can already have several characters in a singular account, having even more sounds like an unhealthy level of grind for me.
