Are we still due to get the Nerf of Zenithar event?

Pretty much what the title says. Did they change their minds and give us the normal event we have had for years, or just completely gut the event for no reason whatsoever? This was one of the events most players actually looked forwards too, and they just had to mess with it. Too many people like this, we can't have that. People having fun? In a game? They don't pay us to have fun...

from the PTS forums, here: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/633011/zenithar-event-drops-gutted

Can no longer do crafting writs for boxes( beyond one). You can still get multiple boxes but from overworld. This event was pretty much in the same format since it started. now, for no reason, no explanation, it requires changing.

I swear, anything players actually like seems like something they need to 'fix'. Their conscious objection to people liking things in the game, seems directly at odds with the fact people play games to have fun, and this is their business.

I can't think of a better way to tell players that what they enjoy does not matter.

It was pretty much a universally liked event, rare in ESO. So, seeing this, they 'fixed' it.

Guess I sit at a boss now for a few hours and get bored... or better still, get my boxes and play something else.

This event happened last year for the FIRST time. Zos apparently saw behavior during the first occurrence of the event that they did not like and made adjustments for the second occurrence.

Y'all are acting like this event has years of tradition behind it. It's happened once.

Possibly. They haven't dinged that one up yet. I just can't spend all day every day swapping characters for dailies across 3 accounts both PC megaservers any more. Way too much other stuff that's more fun.

Agreed, I don't want to feel forced to spend 3 hours everyday across 2-3 accounts doing dailies. I can handle one event like that and I'd rather they keep it that way during only the anniversary event.

I agree that ZOS must not have liked the way some of the players apparently acquired hundreds of event coffers each day, or however many they were getting.

At least hundreds.... and I personally know of a couple of people who had over a thousand. I would assume that's the reasoning.

Now, I'm not really happy they restricted it so tightly, but again, I really am not likely to go overboard with ZoZ or Jubilee either one any more.

Last year, you got an event reward box for every single master writ competed and turned in. No cap. So some people amassed TONS. And I guess that ruined it for everyone.

This year, they have capped it for master writs. Instead of an event reward box for every single one, you get one per discipline (one for alchemy, one for blacksmithing, etc) so a max of seven event reward boxes for master writs per account per day. And one from your first normal crafting daily per account per day. Plus the normal “group up with a guildmate and do world bosses/world events.”

I have a feeling that the goal for this event is to encourage grouping. Notice that the boxes you get from WBs/etc. are not capped, but you only get them if you're in a group with a guildie.

I couldn't care either way. This is still 91 boxes you can get from master writs alone, which is also not counting the 13 you'll get from daily writs over the course of the event. That's enough to go without burning out easy.

But with the new "with a guildmate" endeavors and the fact that they're really leaning a lot harder into the 'group with the guildmate' parts of this event instead of the crafting part of the event, it's looking like one of the goals that ESO is working towards as a whole is to get people to group more.

ESO has always been fairly single-player friendly, but there is the idea that the social aspect of "I want to hang out with my friends" is a good way to retain players, as you'll want to log back on to hang with them. They're just trying to foster this idea - it started with the "How to join guilds" quest since Markarth, and now it's a lot more overt of a push to group with people.

They can push all they like. I'm not joining guilds, nor am I going to group. There's nothing fair about requesting a group put up with mega ping. All they have to do to keep me logging in for hours and hours every day is keep fresh content available. I've only missed a couple of days in the 6 years I've been playing - those were when my dizziness was so bad I couldn't get out of bed.

I agree with the idea that there is a push to foster group play beyond the few guilds that push for dungeon and trial clears. Part of the appeal of an MMO is playing with people, and while there is a robust and strong single player community (this is an Elder Scrolls game) I can see that wanting to better incentivize group play makes sense from a longevity perspective, as the group dynamic in ESO isn't that well represented.

I think that limiting event boxes on regular writs to one per account is a bit of an overcorrection. I do like the one per master writ type, but I think that regular dailies could be one per character per day vs once per account per day. Going even further, I would offer the same once per discipline per day for regular writs if you are going to restrict those on a per account basis, as most players aren't doing master writs if we are being honest.

Essentially I would have it the same in both categories if it is going to be a once per day per account deal. This way newer players who haven't progressed enough to do Master Writs are still able to get a meaningful reward for the solo experience if that is what they choose.

More choice is always better than less, in my opinion.

I am pissed about it because I have an inventory worth of blue jewellery writs and my computer broke two days into the last Zenithar event and so now I'll never get to get any benefit from having this huge stack of master writs, because my computer broke a year ago.

I routinely destroy ALL blue jewelry master writs now.

I have a stash of healthy/arcane/robust ones incase I ever need them but the cost of Iridium Plating on PC makes it not financially viable to do them in my opinion.

I'd rather sell the platings, though I do have 100's of them. 😀

Not happy about the change, I LOVED this event last year.
It was new-ish event idea and gave crafters something to look forward to.

This year while there is still some crafting aspect to it, there is more focus on "Group with ppl and kill things"
Yes, great. Bcuz the game doesn't have nearly enough "kill things for prizes" content already... /s

In another thread here: LINK @ZOS_Kevin said while the changes are locked in for this year the events team is reading that thread. So if you want your voice to be heard drop a few words to them there.

This change is baffling to me. If the main goal is to keep people in-game longer\more often, nerfing the crafting aspect of it will not support that goal.

Unless it is as others mention in that they are trying to steer players to group more.
Problem is, many ppl don't want to group with others just to do content. At least this seems to be the dominant sentiment I see reflected here and in-game.

I'll still partake this year and enjoy whatever rewards I get for doing it solo. Just a big downer they felt the need to change it this way.

Thanks for ruining this event by limiting the writs.

We wanted to touch on this as we've seen the feedback around this change. The intention here was not to "ruin" the event, but rather bring it inline with team expectations. The writs are limited this time around to reduce the amount of writ spamming that occurred during the last event. The amount of spamming did not line up with the team's intention for the event. While we know this a frustrating change for some, it was a change made with careful consideration for the overall health of the event.

That being said, there is always room for adjustment in the future, so please continue to share your feedback.

Thank you Kevin for being engaged, it IS appreciated!

I did have a good chuckle when you mentioned the writ spamming not aligning with the Team's intentions.
I say this only in good humor but, how did they NOT foresee that :D
Like c'mon, these are gamers, there are rewards and if there is a shortcut where they can get rewarded BIGLY they will find it and run with it

But yes, I can understand wanting to limit that, makes sense but perhaps a middle ground can be found for next year?
Still limiting but not as much as this year.

    Anyway, thank you again :)

    Well, this is a shame.

I leveled up crafting on several alts, in part, for events like what this used to be. Now Zenithar, god of toil and hardwork, apparently wishes for me to murder countless critters (while forcing me to group with guildies, no less)... which makes him like all the other gods and daedra in this game, only more nit-picky about the company I keep. I guess Ember isn't good enough for him.

If we're lucky, the drop-rates on the daily boxes will have been tilted upwards to make up for the much lower amount of them that most people will be able to get... but I doubt we'll be that lucky.

Instead, I bet it'll be a slog to get all the FOMO style pages before the event ends... but hey, you can always buy individual event tickets for $2.00~ a pop. $10-ish bucks for a Kwama miner's shoulder pad sounds fair, right? :-( Oi.

Oh well. It is what it is. I'm sure the event will be fine, my worries aside. Change still bums me out, truth be told. I liked the frantic, crafting zaniness of the last go-around. It was wonderfully absurd.

So many people were doing writs on 18 toons a day on all their alt accounts and then going around trying to buy every master writ in the game so they could do more writs for boxes. The price of master writs especially alchemy and enchanting skyrocketed and alchemy mats went thru the roof in price. Some people spent so much money and time just so they could get boxes.

@ZOS_Kevin thank you for the post, can you define "writ spamming" and what makes it a negative in the development team's eyes?

Since the Zeal of Zenithar event is a crafting event it makes sense that players would bank crafting writs to use during a crafting event that rewards completing writs just like people bank transmutes ahead of an expansion in case we need to recreate armor sets due to the meta shifting. Basically they are just planning ahead based upon the expectations of the festival.

i was kind of holding off doing my stash of master writs until this event, but not really a whole lot of point if you can only get 1 per craft per day

i still need to take a day or so and just do master writs to open my inventory up

it still makes little sense that a crafting event has little to no focus on crafting this time around
