Can we end the ability to port out of PvP areas mid combat?

    That would fix the issue.

    That would fix the issue.

It would also make IC even more of a ghost town than it is now. Making it harder to get to an area that already has population problems is a cure that is probably worse than the disease.

My suggestion for what should prevent a queue from popping:

1). Must be in a PvP zone. This will avoid queue failing if you dual someone in Stormhaven while waiting to get into Cyrodiil.
2). Must be under effects of some sort of CC or negative status effect. This will almost always be the case if actually fighting another player, but unlikely to be an issue if you have the stuck-in-combat bug.

But I am not sure how much of a hassle this is to change the legacy code and if the time and resources are considered worth it. "Every now and again I miss out on a PVP kill," is an annoyance but not really game breaking.

I don't really see the issue. If someone ports IC mid-fight it's kind of like forfeiting a duel when on the backfoot. Even if they may think it saves their 'pride' in a video game, it's an admission of defeat.

On the other hand, if I couldn't queue out of Cyrodiil while in combat, then often the only method to get out of Cyrodiil for me would be to force-quit the game and start it up again, hopefully not getting the 'this account is already logged in' message. It'd become a daily annoyance for me and many other players if we couldn't just port to IC.

You’re just missing one thing: Tel Var. The IC gankers hate it when one of their victims escapes with those sweet, sweet stones.

When the entire point of fighting someone in IC is to get the TelVar they're carrying, it's kind of dumb that they can just leave without consequence if they think they're going to lose the fight.

You can definitely queue while in combat.

I used to do the Arena District daily by killing one mob/ccing all of the mobs to free the prisoners and then just moving to the next grouping without bothering to kill the rest and then queueing for an unpopulated Cyrodiil campaign when I got done while still in combat with npcs.

Ok. I´ll take your word for it.

I would assume you´d need an addon; when I get NB ganked it´s usually in < 3 seconds. Not enough time to manually queue and port.

I do use the porting myself to avoid running back to base though.

If getting ganked by a nb, insteat of pressing key to port to Cyrodiil/IC using an addon you could also press a key to block/dodge roll. Even if you use addon to remove player input time(select alliance war menu, campaigns(overview), the campaign you want to join, then accept queue), it will probably take more than 3 seconds. But nb Oneshot 1v1 ganker is only a minority of fights/death in IC at least for me. Majority of fights are Xv1 ganks where a group of tanks built to stalemate 1v1 ambushes and hunts a solo player until he runs out of ressoursses/cant outheal the dmg anymore. These fights usually take long enaugh to port out if you can stop character control to select queue for Cyrodiil for a moment and you have no chance to win these fights anyway. I dont feel bad for group ganker if their victim escapes by porting out. These Bullys avoid any risk themselve by running around as group of tanks, often with 40k hp and dedicated healers, and only attacking outnumbered victims that have no chance to win. Of course it is frustrating when one of these Bullys ports out when his time has come or a player you would have killed in a fair fight . But majority of fights are not fair fights and or deserved revenge. And of course porting out in combat because combat bug gets worse and worse and even continues now after changing district or dying.

Fix the permanently stuck in combat bug first, then look at this.

It's frustrating sure, especially when so called good players use it to run away from fair fights that they know they are going to lose, but when you're stuck in combat and can't log out, port back to base, mount or do anything even in the middle of nowhere with 0 enemies on your side of the map, that ability to port to another zone is too invaluable to prevent you being stuck somewhere and either walking home for 30 mins to an hour, finding the nearest enemy/slaughter fish to die to, etc. Most of these options don't even fix the combat bug either, so most of the time you're still stuck in combat even though you've died, walked for 30+ mins, etc and still can't log out or port to a PvE zone via wayshrine, etc.

It's also working as intended, it does it this way to port players into group dungeons when the queue procs even if they are in combat to prevent even longer queue times or just failure to queue/port altogether which was another issue that was regular before it was changed to its current iteration.

For me it seems like most players in IC dont really care about the tel var [snip]. They just want to kill other players. Running around in a big group and zerging down solo players is not a very effective way to get tel var because you split tel var with your whole group and most players in IC carry almost now tel var. Usually I get less tel var for killing a player than for killing a Xyvkin and most of them are stronger than a Boss. The most effective way to get tel var is to run solo and kill all dremora, Xyvkin or bosses when IC is empty and your faction has all flags, but as a solo player in IC you always get zerged. I dont think you deserve tel var if you zerg down solo players farming npcs. Effective way to get tel var is also to kill these npc farmers 1v1.

Who said I run around in a large group? I'm usually solo or with a group of 4 or fewer while queued for BGs. I just find it annoying that if I come across someone they can simply queue out if they think they're going to lose the 1v1. And sure, I care most about getting good fights, but the entire incentive to fight in IC is Tel Var (or at least is supposed to be Tel Var, they do a pretty poor job of incentivising PvP in IC)

I don't know, I think it's needed. A few days ago, some friends and I went to IC with just all healers for fun to see how far we could get just healing each other.

We got into one fight where these two AD were trying everything in their power to kill us and couldn't. They followed us to the skyshard and still couldn't kill us. We eventually got bored and just walked away to the door to move on, but we couldn't get through because they wouldn't leave us alone despite not dropping any of our health. Now if they were actually doing damage, I wouldn't mind. They were doing absolutely nothing (heals op). So we eventually just went and took a q to cyro, that fight had been going on for nearly ten minutes and it was boring.

I will note, we eventually met our match when the same AD came back with more AD and killed us and got away with 8k+ telvar combined. lol

But most players in IC are Zerglings and most fights are Xv1 ganks.
Last IC Event I played solo most of the time and got 1 1v1, rest of fights was all Xv1 ganks. When a player attacks me 1v1 than usually it is only to keep me there until the rest of his group arrives.
They also zerg me when I just left base or they already zerged me 1 minute ago and know I dont have tel var. It is really bad that all doors stop working when you get attacked and you cant escape any fight in IC no matter how unfair it is.

Since non of you seem to really understand IC at all or what people are doing there and WHY they port out as soon as someone tries to gank them. TEL'VAR FARMING its literally the most OP gold farm in the game that ZoS doesn't care to fix. you make over 3mil per hr doing it and you sure as h*ll wouldn't want someone to cut into your profits as most people carry 30k+ stones on them before banking. So that would be 150k+ of their profit they'd give away for no reason.

To answer all the people who still think you cant port out of it. YES YOU CAN, YOU QUE TO CYRO AND IT PORTS YOU OUT EVEN DURING COMBAT. Its a design flaw but a needed one as the game is still plagued with permanent combat bugs.

To answer the ''fight me like a man'' people. They would if they weren't carrying over half a mil worth of stones in their inventory and most likely kill you in a couple seconds also.

Zerging in IC is pointless and not profitable(unless you dont care about profit and just wanna farm npcs.. why tho?). Most people run it solo or with 1 friend(never more than 3 otherwise its a waste) so you maximize your profits.

As far as imperial city goes, there absolutely should be a restriction on leaving the campaign while in combat with a player. Many people have realized they can farm telvar almost risk free if they can survive the 5-10 seconds it takes for their cyrodiil queue to pop, and they don't even need to open a menu to accept it on PC with addons that automatically accept the queue for you.

Sure, being stuck in combat is a problem and you should be able to queue out in situations where you get stuck in walls or simply need to do something else, but circumventing the risk of imperial city like this is a borderline exploit.
