Not particularly amused by this choice of side quest in Galen

I don't want to go into specifics, but making ToT part of a completely unrelated side-quest, not amusing.

I was quite happy to see a friendly familiar face and keen to learn what kind of shenanigans this would lead to.

Turns out the shenanigans is... a match of ToT, which I don't know how to play and I have little interest on learning, therefore that is where our paths diverge once more.

I get that someone put a lot of time and effort developing this... mini-game? side-game? however that doesn't automatically guarantee that is going to be universally loved or embraced.

I hope this is a one-off and not the start of a trend of inserting it on side content.

OK, I conceded the match - once I figured out how to do that - and a new path opened.

For context, this to me feels like doing a side quest and suddenly the objective to progress becomes 'kill 10 enemy players in Cyrodiil'.

Couldn't be more jarring if it tried.

That’s weird because I was kind of glad to see the game kind of acknowledged by established characters. Until then it felt like it was in its own bubble, separate from the world.

I was also happy it did not require playing another player.

If it means anything, I think the AI was set to easy, so if you learn the game quick via the tutorial it should not be too hard.

I appreciate the tip, but I'm just glad I could skip it altogether.

As I said, hopefully this is a one off. At the moment all the focus on ToT is just a minor irritation in the periphery of my awareness, and I much rather it stayed that way.

I do know how to play ToT. I gave it a fair shake when it was new and concluded I don't care for it and don't want to spend my game time playing ToT - at all. I join OP in hoping to see it restricted enough to completely ignore it if desired (sort of like battlegrounds) and not woven into regular quests.

Tried the card game on the PTS ,it was the reason I didn't buy High Isle. Would not like to see it in other parts of the game.

God forbid they add in varying content to overland so we do not fall asleep with how easy it is :/.

Honestly, I was really hoping they would integrate ToT and Antiquities into all content naturally, otherwise it just looks like something put in and then forgotten about. Unprofessional, sloppy.

This is much better, and appreciated by my wife and I.

Maybe we could get Pacrooti as an integral part of some quests, and he could invite you to play a few hands, and you’d be required to get a bonus card to update your quest marker, or something.

Agreed. I don't mind ToT, but that part used two decks I'd never seen before. If the hope was to introduce people to ToT, or to get them to try it out, perhaps sticking to the basic decks and giving people an easy win would have worked better.

Fortunately, it doesn't matter if you win or lose because the quest still progresses. I just think that if they're going to kind of force people to play it, that wasn't the way to do it. It certainly didn't make me want to play ToT any more than I do now (infrequently, when the urge hits me).

I'd prefer you do name which quest or which questline so I can have the page up on how to abandon that stupid game swiftly. I like to be prepared.

The quest is listed in three layers of spoilers to prevent any accidental clicks.

Thanks for the warning; I have absolutely no interest in playing that card game; I still haven't touched the tutorial and never plan to. I'm glad that it's an option for those that enjoy it and do appreciate the effort that went into it, but it is just unappealing to me and I like that it is optional (like Battleground, which I have never stepped foot into.) At least there is a way to forfeit the game, as you stated.

(As an aside, if it was forced, it would remind me of those awful unskippable Skystones matches in those Skylanders games LOL Oh boy did I despiiiiise Skystones in every single game. I hate having weird tabletop games forced on me in action games, even if it's easy.)

Interesting. Did they change it from the PTS?

    Spoilers for the Quest:
If I recall correctly when I did it on the PTS I was offered the option to just break in via the window without needing to do Tales at all

So long as there is a way to skip the card game, I got no issue with it being added here and there but if its done in such a way that your forced to play it to progress the story, that I find annoying and unnecessary.

I don't know man. Of all the things wrong with this game, we're now complaining about them putting their new minigame in a quest.

Having never picked up the card game intro, I was given a workaround.

I myself found it quite nice that it was added in. Sort of spiced it up a little bit, and made it feel part of the world the just its own thing. Though I certainly can see it being an issue for those who don't care for it either way. If there is an option that opens when you fail the match, it should be available from the get go, and should be used if you fail the match after agreeing as well

If you don't have access to ToT or have not unlocked it, you get option to "I dont play ToT" and do it other way. If you have unlocked ToT but do not play ToT like me, start the #¤%&/ ToT gaem and quit it at round 0 and you get to do it other way.
I myself got only light boils on my bottom from trying in vain to figure out how to do the quest without playing but they really should give the "I don't play" option also for people who know from experience they do not play ToT.

I basically can't login on any of my 30 odd accounts on 4 different computers due to crashes. I can't play and don't want to think about it, and my thoughts on how that occurred I can't express because it will violate forum rules....

I need something else to talk about and this is a healthy distraction from that.

If you have ToT unlocked at one step of quest you have to start a ToT match with a nearby NPC but you can concede (that is quit the #¤%&) or lose and still finish the quest other way. The task description tells you have to WIN a match so people who don't play ToT likely find it rather discouraging. At least I did.

When you trust Pacrooti with a 1 l of your drink, he will divide it into 4 parts 0.25 l each. Sometimes he will add a complementary 5-th part, 0.25 l as well. A friendly advice: be careful with Pacrooti offerings!

How does this work on an alt who has not done the initial ToT quest?
How on someone who don't have High Isle, I assume they get an free trial?
Has this quest but has not progresses so far yet.

From what I gather - from other players - if one hasn't done the ToT introductory quest the 'alternate path' becomes the default one.

When it comes to minigames that are shoehorned in, that really didn't need to be, because their style just doesn't mesh with the rest of the game?

Does anybody remember that card game Pazaak from Knights of the Old Republic?

Or the swoop-bike pod-racing which had an unavoidable race just before you got off the first planet in the first game?

(Both of which were pretty terribly shoe-horned into the second game, although at least they were avoidable there.)

Or the spaceship combat that again was unavoidable because, again, one compulsory one just as you were getting off the first planet?
