The Card Game was Not Worth the Dev Time!

OK so I gave in and tried the lead-in quest and one of the dailies.

What I learned:

- This is not playing and MMO, it is playing a card game!
- It interrupts time I would much rather be doing things in the world or even daily boring crafting!
- The games take too long!
- Did I say that the games take too long? Especially for a part of an MMO.
- It makes me want to rage quit. Sure it is great to win, but when your opponent has a line of agents you know you are doomed.
- I am just waiting until "real good things" (tm) are put behind playing so all of us are pushed to "enjoy" what they made.

I may play more depending on how much I need or want the awards, but adding a slow time consuming thing, with games taking so much of my play time was a very poor decision in my view.

I am sure some will say how much they love it, but why are you playing ESO and not many of the electronic card games out there instead?

Why not have more quests, delves, trials, and other normal MMO content? What about quality of life things so many of us have wanted for so long?

EDIT: I would probably move this to the ToT forum, though it has general application since so much dev time was spent on this. I didn't even know that forum existed and I bet very few will see any posts there.

You do know that there are plenty of MMOs that have minigames within them, right?
(and heck, couldn't you say that about any game that has minigames in it? You're not playing Witcher, you're playing cards; you're not playing <RPG>, you're fishing; you're not playing Red Dead Redemption, you're playing poker; etc.)

Why not have more quests, delves, trials, and other normal MMO content?

High Isle also has that. (And who defines what "normal MMO content" is, anyway? Between all the MMOs that have been released, I'm pretty sure every kind of 'content' has been done within one.)

    Greetings,

As this thread is in regards to the Tales of Tribute, we have moved it to the Tales of Tribute section of the forums as it is better fit there.

Others have already expressed what you are saying.

Card games such as this are still popular. Some like it. Some hate it. They wanted to add something different and this is what they came up with. I personally have tried it and will probably continue to play it in between other activities I do in game.

If you feel High Isle is not enough for you otherwise then maybe it's time to move onto another game or at least take a break.

The games take too long (in my view) to be a minigame, though I am not an expert on those, so I could be wrong.

I just hope/pray they don't put stuff I really want behind the card game dailies. Though I have heard they already put JC crafting stuff there, which is annoying.

What bothers me the most about the card game is that it takes far too long and in the end you only get a little for it (in the same time I can collect 5x as many resources as I need for housing). Also, leveling takes ages... It's not exciting either, not much happens when you play against NPCs (and when you play against other players you end up getting nothing, which is even more unmotivating). I'm happy for the people who are enjoying the game, but I won't be playing it for long.

I love the game, its fun, and its something to do while i eat a snack/cleanup/ect that doesn't require me to press skills. So yes dev time VERY well spent.

Once you take the time to learn what the cards do and how to use them efficiently the game speeds up drastically.

    Please, let me also disagree.
An opportunity to chill by playing a card game with friends or random players is just awesome, so the point of view really depends on what you like the most.
I am playing not for "efficiency" like Actions per Minute or Gold per Hour. I play to kill my precious life time with fun.
And ToT is a lot of fun. Devs time was well spent, in my humble opinion. o:)

For me the games take about 15 minutes each, that's way too long. Maybe a game to 20 instead of 40 would make more sense. I don't have that much playtime. I like the game well enough I guess, but I would play it more if it wasn't so time-consuming.

I love the card game. On top of that I have already gotten some really expensive motifs/blueprints etc. that were 50k plus in price. Not to mention the higher tier mats. Those saying it takes to long? I have to wonder how many of you are setting in the game playing for hours already?
I understand it wont be for everyone, but there is no reason to bash it because it does not fit "your" idea as to what should be in an MMO. ESO offers a lot of playing aspects for all kinds of people. This is just a new one, and I hope it is here to stay!

I'm enjoying ToT. I am very casual and only tend to do overland content such as dailies, so getting to play ToT every so often is a good break from doing the usual.

I love the card game. It gives me something to do when my buddies aren't on and I just love card games. Everything doesn't have to be your cup of tea. That's why I love ESO, there are a lot of options for play.

This is what ticks me off then. I am missing key motifs because I won't blow my time on this card game.

OK so I gave in and tried the lead-in quest and one of the dailies.

    What I learned:

    - This is not playing and MMO, it is playing a card game!

It is literally part of an MMO. It is a minigame in the MMO. Probably like many of the things you like in this MMO. An MMO is all about doing a bunch of different things. Just imagine what an MMO would be like if it was just the one thing with nothing else. Tired of questing? Well too bad, this MMO doesn't have any minigames...
    - It interrupts time I would much rather be doing things in the world or even daily boring crafting!

You... know you don't have to do it, right? It doesn't have to interrupt anything unless you let it.
    - The games take too long!
    - Did I say that the games take too long? Especially for a part of an MMO.

If you only like short games, it would seem you're more interested in the game ending than actually playing the game. Which is fine, but in that case, just don't play the game. Or alternatively, just play the game when you actually want to play the game.
    - It makes me want to rage quit. Sure it is great to win, but when your opponent has a line of agents you know you are doomed.

There are ways to build advantage in card games - that's just a fact of card games. You have to build advantage faster than your opponent, and if you don't, you lose. So if you're finding you can't build your deck or field as fast as your opponent, I recommend practicing until you're better, or trying different strategies. I've personally found some strategies that don't involve agents at all that are quite effective.

As a side note, if you find yourself easily frustrated, perhaps you should take a break from the game or explore ways to better manage your stress. I don't find Tribute all too frustrating personally, so I know in the very least it doesn't have to be rage-inducing.
    - I am just waiting until "real good things" (tm) are put behind playing so all of us are pushed to "enjoy" what they made.

Please don't wait for that. I don't want that to happen in the first place, and if players expect it, ZoS will be incentivized to add crown store options for Tribute. That is assuming you meant "paying" and not "playing" as you typed, as some progress in Tribute is already locked behind playing... as in pretty much every game.

I would like the option to play the game on a mobile app while on break at work though. Maybe even allowing us to play with players in-game. That I'd pay for.
I may play more depending on how much I need or want the awards, but adding a slow time consuming thing, with games taking so much of my play time was a very poor decision in my view.

Generally it's a poorer decision to put content into a game that players can complete quickly, as once all the content is completed the players will bore of the game and leave it. And again, it doesn't have to take any of your playtime unless you freely give it. There isn't really anything significant for the rest of ESO that requires playing Tribute to get.
I am sure some will say how much they love it, but why are you playing ESO and not many of the electronic card games out there instead?

People can play more than one game, you know... Besides, players might be interested in ESO for other reasons, considering how much content there is in the game.
Why not have more quests, delves, trials, and other normal MMO content? What about quality of life things so many of us have wanted for so long?

They are adding those things. Continually. Have been for a while. Game development doesn't work like that, where only one thing can be worked on at a time, or that every game developer is capable of doing everything every other developer can do. Imagine saying that an artist should be working on something like bug fixes instead of new art for a different part of the game.
EDIT: I would probably move this to the ToT forum, though it has general application since so much dev time was spent on this. I didn't even know that forum existed and I bet very few will see any posts there.

    Quite an assumption there.

Suffice it to say I disagree with many of the points in the previous reply.

I now learned they hid valuable motifs behind this abomination.

Yes, it is part of the game, but putting general game things behind it is quite annoying, at best.

Card games are very random by nature and are not a clear part of MMOs. It is for this one of course, but just because it is here does not mean it should be here.

You get rewards win or lose against players in ranked matches. There's also the daily quest to win up to three matches against players for loot containers.

With "win" being the key term. Nothing if you suck, as I do.

What I’ve said is that ToT is a solid edition to ESO as a chapter feature, but that this is horrible timing. Last time we got new combat-related features was the Necromancer class way back in 2019!!!!

High Isle has only just come out and I already feel myself losing interest. I ran the new trial, got Game-Baron (rubedite rank) in ToT, quested a bit in the new zone, got a few new Mythics... I want to be clear this is not a bad chapter. Dreadsail Reef is potentially the best trial they’ve ever launched too.

There is just no new way for me to experience the content. After 3 years, this is now a problem.
