4. There's alot of lag in server
5. Loading Screens take forever...

This is the only hope. I'll believe it when I see improvements.

"in order to give everyone a good play experience... we need to essentially rewrite some of the foundational server code to account for it. This should dramatically increase server performance, but obviously we will need to test and evaluate as we go along"

The post says basically the work won't be done till at least late this year.

The server they have had since day one to present day can longer manage what the game has grown into. The game is giant in size now. So the servers need a modern upgrade. They have admitted to this , that ultimaly it is on their server side of things that is the real issue. It's not about just upgrading the client ( players getting new fast hardware) Though getting a new system can in fact help much with loading the game world, that's for sure. But the network side of things is the smoking gun

In game mail system also appears to be having issues. Just got my hireling emails on 6 characters. It was messy to say the least, guessing performance might be the cause. Not all of the 5 mails got through, when they did it took ages for the system to load them up.

So how does that relate to the deterioration in performance between yesterday and today?

PC EU was having a lot of problems for me earlier, but it's gotten much better during the last hour or so. I was only on PC NA briefly to grab mail but it didn't seem to have as many problems as PC EU did.

On PC EU, the problems I was having were as follows:

    - Long loading screens, sometimes followed by disconnects. When I tried to log in again right away I got "account already logged in," but after a minute or so I was able to log in again.

    - Black screens with music as normal but no video. I was about to end the task but then it finally changed to a loading screen, then I got in. This was when queuing for Cyrodiil or Imperial City, but that may have simply been because I was playing there.

    - I was in Imperial City and wanted to queue for Cyrodiil. My home campaign showed the "please wait" message under it, as though I had already queued for it, but I hadn't done so yet. Or rather, I'd queued for it much earlier, because I was going back and forth between Imperial City and Cyrodiil, but hadn't queued for it just then. I tried several times to leave the queue but got no response, so I queued for a different campaign and got in. The "please wait" message was stuck on my home campaign all the time that I was in the alternate campaign doing quests, when I went to Imperial City afterward to do another quest there, and when I went back to the alternate Cyrodiil campaign to turn in my previous round of quests then grab and complete the next round. I eventually restarted my computer and when I logged back in the "please wait" message was finally cleared.

    - While in my alliance base in the Imperial Sewers, I tried to go up a ladder to accept and complete the next district's daily, but got a long loading screen followed by a disconnect. When I tried to log back in, I got "already logged in" (as described above) and decided to exit the game and restart. After I restarted and logged back in, I was standing at the base of the ladder in my base. Rather than immediately try to go up the ladder, I decided to pause for a moment so I wouldn't get "already queued for that campaign" or whatever the exact message is. Suddenly, without having done anything, I got a black screen, followed after a bit by a loading screen, and then I was up in the district. It was as if the game finally processed my previous attempt to go up the ladder into the district, even though I'd been kicked out with a "lost lobby connection" and then restarted the game.

These problems seemed to start, or get much worse, after I'd been in the Imperial City and Cyrodiil for an hour or two; I was able to do the first district's daily, followed by all 10 Bruma dailies, without much trouble. And after having these problems for about an hour or so, they eventually seemed to clear up. I figure they might have been due to a lot of players trying to log in on PC EU for the first time after the update, such that the servers were struggling to handle all of the users and go through the process of converting their character-specific achievements to account-wide achievements. If that's the case, hopefully these issues will clear up on their own.

A lot more people are on today than yesterday. The problem isn't the servers can't handle the game itself, it's that they have trouble handling too many players and too many calculations. PVP has more things going on so it's the canary in the coal mine, but release day spikes push them past the comfort zone even in overland.

I've played every patch since 2014. This feels very different. Lots of random weird crashes, instance queues behaving strangely, mail not working, skills being sluggish, random load screens and longer than normal load screens.

As there are multiple threads already open regarding login and loading issues, we are going to close this thread.

For anyone still experiencing issues with logging in or loading into the game, please try disabling add-ons as outdated ones could be preventing you from logging into ESO. Some players may also need to run a repair through the launcher or go through a reinstall of ESO if the prior steps do not help.

Further discussion can take place in the thread linked below:
