volendrungg is unfair.

for something that was meant to help the loosing side, on ps4 it always keeps going to the winning side, spawning behind locked gates in the alliance that control the map, and are top of the score board. I dont see how that's meant to help the loosing side when it always goes to the winning side.

As long as it can be picked up after it drops, it will always go to the side that is already winning if it's brought to the front lines.

If ZOS wanted to create a "win more" mechanic, they did a great job.

If they wanted a catch up mechanic they failed on multiple levels.

that's what I dont like, it's always spawning behind the gates of the winning side, so they just wipe out the other sides and then it vanishes, it's kind of ruined pvp

On GH pcna it almost always spawns for AD which usually has the smallest pop and share of the map. "IF" they decide to bring it past the gates its usually lost to a DC or EP zerg. I have yet to get my hands on it but want to, mainly just to have some fun. Whatever happened to just having some fun in Cyrodiil?

On pc eu, there's always a spy that picks it up and hands it over to the emperor, and if you're on the losing side, like myself, then it's too bad :)

The thing has been an annoyance from the get-go. The best thing they could do would be to get rid of it entirely.

Had they made it only able to be picked up by the side that first acquired the hammer it might end up better, but I imagine the winning side camping it after they killed the wielder so nobody could get it back. Better than the hammer being used against you I guess and still gives the losing side a hope to get it back.

they could ramp up the AP requirement to keep yourself alive based on the score gap, might balance it out a little bit.

Legit. I always go and do something else for a bit because I know we're about have everything we've gained wiped by the alliance leading the campaign and who only fights in giant, mostly unbeatable zergs anyway.
  • CycnusX1TheGreat
I go the opposite direction because being in the same fight as the hammer always gets me disconnected.

You can only be Emp and have the hammer at the same time if you gain emp after you pick it up -- which happens and it is fn stupid.

On XBox NA it seems heavily weighted toward AD, no matter what the score or map looks like. And even more weighted to spawn behind a gate no matter what the map looks like.
Why are there so many spawn spots when most of the time the thing spawns behind a gate?

idk if I'd label it unfair, just badly designed and a poor concept overall. If the low pop side gets it or weaker side (like it's meant to even things out on the map I guess and mix things up in fighting) it will just get taken by the stronger side. Most groups that are good will actually go straight to hammer because they can just take it.

I see posts talking about how "spies" turn the hammer over and I'm sure it will happen here or there, but most of the time a good group can just bomb in and take it from a group of pugs or mediocre group. During MM I saw multiple times where the emp had the hammer b/c they got emp b/c of the hammer and hold onto it for a bit and many more times I saw an emp group with hammer where one player in group was emp and another had hammer. That doesn't "mix things up" that just lets one side roll the map.

Personally I think cyro was better without the hammer. But if it was going to stay I'd nerf it and also make it always spawn on low pop/less keep side, not just weighted to spawn that way and I would never allow it to be picked up by the other alliance. Just have it go away if someone on same alliance doesn't pick it up after so many seconds of being dropped.

But the same minds that brought us destroying gates and bridges to PREVENT pvp in pvp zones (and allowing every alliance to cross the enemy side while destroyed except AD) brought us the hammer, so my expectations are low that they will fix things.

Treat Volendrung like a scroll. With these changes you could leave the hammer in the game 24/7 and it would be infinitely more balanced than it is now. You also wouldn't see people hole up with the hammer behind their gates waiting for it to expire b/c you're not going to sweep the map.

This is, like, game design 101.

+ No teleporting via keeps/outposts or stones
+ No mounting while holding the hammer
+ Add Minor Expedition to pariahs-resolve to offset the inability to mount
+ Change sundering-swing into literally anything else (Skill that damages structures).
+ If a player becomes Emperor while holding Volendrung they drop the hammer
+ If you exploit by falling through the map at a certain well-known area and are respawned at your gate the hammer goes back to the spawn location. Just like if you toss it in the river.
+ Add an account timer for logging into a different faction than the one you picked up the hammer with in the same campaign. This will keep people in non faction locked campaigns from picking up the hammer, handing it off to their group at the milegate and then switching back.

Honestly, I would love to see that regardless of hammer or not. There should be a 4 hour minimum for logging into another faction once you chose your "faction of the day".

This is a terrible idea. Sometimes I am solo in pvp and then my friends get online and I want to join them.
I'd be fine with a minute timer, max.

Volundrung should only spawn for the last place faction, and less often.

The way it works now the dominating faction always ends up with it, and that's probably where it will end up anyway, but it should start out with the underdog faction at least. Give the last place faction an option to try to use the power or not. It's stupid and kinda disheartening when a faction that is 10k ahead gets the hammer.

You're missing the point. It doesn't matter where it spawns. That's irrelevant. The current design allows for sweeping the map. That needs to change.

I've been playing PvP MMOs since the 90s and this is literally the worst thing I've ever seen added to a game.

It just always ends up in the most dominant faction's hands allowing them to wipe the map faster than they otherwise could. What's not to like? /s

I hate the thing. Just causes a ton of players from all over the map to go where it is and the server lags harder. Usually I go the opposite direction. I've used it a few times and really don't want to but as someone drops it and I'm right there, best to not be on the receiving end. Have ran it to slaughter fish or kept it behind a gate more than once.

If the goal honestly is to reduce lag and server calculations, a way to do that would be to remove hammer from the game. I think more than 50% have hated it since it's introduction anyway.

But more than that, the hammer is fundamentally unbalancing.

I think you are being kind with a 50% call. I don't know anyone that likes it, but then again I am not friends with the few that know how to glitch it so they can take the whole map and use it to crown emps. So maybe 2% like it... and not for whatever reason was intended when they put it in?

It depends, really. It's great fun when you are able to kill entire dc zerg on 12 man group and steal the hammer from them. Then you of course lose it again when you take it to dc keep and the dc zerg is defending the keep. Overall, i give it "fun" stamp.

Hammer fails are also epic, when random noobs pick it up and try solo take enemy keeps before the rest of the alliance has time to garther up and help. Epic.

Sounds like they need to tweak the mechanic. Wouldn't want to lose it entirely. It's actually kind of fun. Definitely need to make it more of what someone called a "catch up" mechanic rather than a win more mechanic tho.

you sound like an ad scrub. you know what chaos it brings in PCNA noCP every time it spawns? there are people paying money to hand over the scroll. once they get it they completely wipe the entire map and then PvP is dead before primetime hours are even over. It happens every time. you can watch the entire server go from poplock to one bar in minutes.

Maybe it is a time to do server test and get rid of the HAMMER.
