How to play Magplar solo?

Hi! I have troubles finding anyone to play with in pvp due to all my friends being pve players... I play in the CP campaign in Spinners, Eternal Vigour and malacath and can get some good fights but when there's more than 2 players hitting on me I can't do any damage and only focus on survival...do any magplar pros have any tips for me on how to get some good offensive windows as that seems to be my biggest problem!

Without knowing really anything about your build:

    Go full Tristat.
Icestaff masters back bar with spinners on front only would make up the dmg difference from tristat and also provide an immobilize (amazing for forcing a response and pressuring resources).
    Slot 1 additional defensive skill.
Switch your build to fit in a weapon that adds stamina on heavy attacks.
Learn when combos are coming and block bc you’ll die without it since you’re not using shields and recovery is reactionary.

I have thousands of hours of Magplar experience in PVP, most of it solo. I can give you the advice you need but ... well ... you’re not going to like it. If this was Reddit my opinion would get downvoted into oblivion because what I’m about to say goes against EVERYTHING you know.

Please note that I’ve respecc’d my Magplar dozens of times over the years and have tried everything imaginable.

Any way ... here goes ...

Pump everything into magic. EVERYTHING! I have 60992 at the moment. Mages Guild abilities like Inner Light help a ton. Ice Comet is another because it raises your magic with the MG passive. I have both and Structured Entropy on my DPS bar almost completely for the magic boosts.

Throw away the heavy armor. Go 5-1-1 light. The shield on Dampen Magic is higher for me in PVP than PVE. Why? Someone smarter than I explained why on the main board yesterday. My DM shield is above 11K in PVP.

And now you’re wondering “I thought he said DPS bar?” I did! The last two slots are for Radiant Oppression and Crushing Shock. My RO is about 11.5K and my CS is 3531 x 3. I can spam CS as an opener but ideally the rotation is Ice Comet, CS, IC lands, RO ... death.

Keep all your other heals and utility spells on your other bar. Bring a ton of immovable pots and invisibility pots. You’ll be surprisingly tanky in 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 situations. In 1 on 20 you’ll simply die in 0.5 seconds instead of 4. That, and being able to be one shotted on your horse or repairing a door are your drawbacks.

I was running 30K resistances last week. In all but the 3 scenarios directly above I’m actually tankier as long as I press shield every 6 seconds.

My gear is 2 willpower (destro and resto staves), 3 ancient grace, 2 mismatched monster pieces and 5 crafty afliq. All divines and infused.

THIS IS NOT META!! YOU WILL BE RIDICULED!!!

But ... you came looking for answers on how to melt people with a Magplar and there are very few people, if any, who know how to do that better than I do. Best of luck!

You're not going to be able to get around that unless your opponents are potato. That basically that one aspect of Templar "identity" the devs so kindly left (while nerfing or taking away everything else that used to make Templar distinctive). You don;t have a class skill that is defensive/mobile that gives you the breathing time to focus on offensive unless you want to basically be in perma mist form. Eclipse (and Ritual of Retribution sort of) used to be ok at providing enough of a window, but it's really inefficient now.

I would replace Spinners because offensive stat sets right now pale in comparison to proc sets. Overwhelming, Grothdar, and Vateshran Destro staff are both really strong and perfect for magplar because they still do damage even if you're on your defensive bar.

So basically you're more a gimicky collection of gear sets than a Templar, but when in Rome...

Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

I think I understand the reasoning behind the magicka dump but how much does your Honour The Dead heal for? As far as I understand you play a ranged build ?

I try to avoid that because my inbox got flooded with bros talking trash last time.

On a side note @Joy_Division is a great source for standard advice. It’s been a few years but we used to argue about theory crafting on here years ago.

“Gimicky collection of gear sets” and skills from other lines like Mages or Destro.

But yeah, this. I keep RO main barred because it’s still amazing and have zero other Templar skills on that bar. The only Templar skills on my back bar are Breath of Life’s other morph (forget the name off hand) with a bunch of resto staff skills. I also keep pokey sticks on my back bar for NPCs.

I’m definitely ranged, yes. In between attacks I hold down the heavy attack button so I’m constantly regaining magic to deal with regen issues. I actually have an immovable pot that also grants health and magic regen for longer than the cool down so I can keep 1100+ magic regen up during combat.

I don’t have my XBox on but I know rapid regen is about 26K over 5 seconds and I think honor the dead is about 14.5K.

As for highlights, like I said below I’m not a streamer but if someone reminds me how to post XBox clips I can throw a few completely out of context fun ones up from the last few days.

Ayyyy nice to see this. I have no doubt this *** will melt faces. I used to love running a ranged mag plar. Defensively it won't stand up to a cheese team of wws and proc sets, particularly in no cp, but that is garbage gameplay any way. I'd rather take an occasional L from the cheesy meta [Snip] than run a heavy armor/health regen/proc [Snip] build myself

Good luck. Do this ... every time you think “is this too much magic” the answer is no. As long as you can maintain a functional rotation of offensive skills just keep adding it everywhere. It doesn’t have to be both bars (my magic jumps from 56 to 61 constantly on swaps) but in general if you can fit more do it.

Also my spell power only sits around 2100 so I keep a spell power enchant on my destro staff for an added boost. 2400-2500 spell power doesn’t sound like much but 60K magic still gives you an insane boost. Technically in the past I’ve seen my spells get a bit higher with spell damage over magic but the 5% inner light bonus kind of out does that ratio.

Just make sure to hit shield every 6 seconds and maintain a 30 yard distance if you can. If they gap close you then you need to have an “oh crap” plan. Mine is invisibility plus speed potions.

Really? I’d love for you to defend this statement with any sort of facts. There is no such thing as a “stronger build” on PC. You have access to the same equipment and skills.

As for stronger players, that’s purely speculation. You most likely have a stronger system and some add ons, but console players have been dealing with zero add-ons for half a decade at this point. The top level players on each are both world class. The potatoes on PC may be a bit stronger due to add-ons but even that’s debatable.

I see you edited you post so I’ll reply to that.

Yes, if I am on my horse or repairing a door they surely will. If I YOLO into 15 people they surely will.

But in an actual combat scenario where I am able to maintain range what are you going to do when I repeatedly spam 11K shields? I also have a second shield back barred for another 5.5K should I need it. If you close the gap on me I have multiple ways via potions, shields and heals to burn through and there’s a near zero percent chance I will run out of magic before you run out of your stamina or magic.

So yeah, cool story. You’re just wrong.

If you can get a lightning Auroran staff, it’s a solid weapon that you can front bar. Procs on Toppling and melee range lightning attacks. And that’s exactly when you want it to proc. I’ll whisper you my build later. It’s been a pretty fun, tanky, good burst build. I enjoy playing a dps/healer. And I’m pretty aggressive. And 100% guarantee that anyone you play with will like this build. I’ll send it later.

    Great questions.

Second part first ... this is entirely dependent on how often you remember to hit the shield button on Dampen Magic. You certainly won’t be unkillable (everyone has their limits) but all of my deaths yesterday were either being zerged by a ton of people (I would have died anyway) or to one specific player who is a former emperor. That former emperor usually melts me in seconds 1 on 1. Dude is legit. Yesterday it took him 30 full seconds twice. Essentially one of the best players on console in the world could no longer walk through me. In the months I play I’m generally around 100th overall for reference.

Average run of the mill 40K tanks couldn’t touch me and I could burn through them. A bunch of times I would ride up to a 10 x 1 and simply shoot a beam into the crowd to kill the 1 tank for the 10. This is a very common thing with this build and derivatives of it I’d tried over the years. I’ve simply never been able to push the envelope to this degree before.

    First part second ...

Unfortunately ESO appears down right now for me.

I always run gold food and top shelf potions. I’m using the skull whatever gold food now.

So off of memory with food but unbuffed in Cyrodiil.

    60k magic
    23.5k health
    19k stam

Regens are all really low (like 600 to 900) without potion buffs which get them above 1100. Heavy attacking in between spells to regain resources is a must with this build. I have a spell power enchant on my destro staff and a magic recovery enchant on my resto staff.

Crit resist is like 2800 or so and the other two resists are about to 15k.

Sorry I can’t be more specific but it appears ESO wants me to go exercise this afternoon instead of theory craft!

You dont want to pvp as a magicka Templar. They are subpar to the meta which is heavy set stamina 2-h. With current gap closers and proc sets, ranged glass Canon builds get rolled too quickly. You shouldn't wear light armor, even standing in the ground glyph you have far less armor than the warden dizzy swinging at you.

Switch to stamplar or play a different class better suited for the current meta... such as stamina anything but Templar. If you must play magicka, play magsorc, and spend half your time running away from the superior stamsorcs... but at least you can run, unlike magplars.

Listen I know this hurts but don't try to fit the square peg into a circle. I take my magplar main for 30k ap and then I leave and play my better pvp alts.

I have a stam version of every class bar sorc( do have a magsorc in an absolutely broken setup) and warden I do apreciate the sentiment...however magplar has and always b3e my first love and I really want to make it work somehow, hence the thread :)

so...with a few changes to my spinners setup I managed to aquire a spinners greatsword and it has added an considerable amount of burst to my build allowing me to kill squishier targets in a 1vx scenario.
I have a resto staff backbar and am going to play around with swapping out Honour the dead for the Healing Bubble in the templar tree instead and use the resto HOT + Ulti as main heals. \

On another note...has anyone been able to make the AOE ultimate work ? It would be really cool if ZOS would change the effect so we could self synergize with it xD

I find it odd that folks come in here and tell you not to PvP with Magplar because it's bad or not "meta". Take the suggestions you have gotten and try them for yourself. Here's my non-meta, sub-par old school Magplar build that does just fine solo. Skill has more to do with gameplay than a copy/paste build from some website.

    I STILL use:

    DW/SnB

    5 Heavy Shacklebreaker
    5 Bright Throat
    2 Balorgh
    2 Potentates

It works fine solo and completely wrecks people that copied a "meta" build from some website.

    5 crafty afliq
5 light of cyrodiil front bar
    2 skoria

    Yeah

    5 Ancient Dragonguard
    5 New Moon
    2 either Chudan or Bloodspawn
    2 Potentates

Another good set up that doesn't take advantage of "clever use of game mechanics" cheese crap meta builds.

The answer to these questions depends on many things. I use witchmothers with this set up because I want to have fun without breaking the bank.

Heavy/Light (in my opinion) depends upon your skill level. I use 5/2 heavy because I'm not very good and like to stay in fights as long as possible.

Mundus, traits and glyphs all depend on skill level and personal preference. I us 2 tri-glyphs and 5 mag glyphs an armor with 5 impen. and 2 sturdy.

Jewels I run all infused with 1 recovery and 2 SD.

But again, that's just me. There are many people out there that are way better than I am but this is what works for me.

To start playing magplar solo one must not join groups.
