How do I CP right?

So my first main has finally started earning CP. I've seen guides so I technically know what I'm supposed to do (assign points per constellation) and how (in the CP menu). What I don't get is what to do with my measly 18 CP.
Do I dump a few points in each area? Do I put all points in one first? Should I keep them even, or max out one? Should I wait for more first and go whole hog then?
What's the best strategy for a CP newbie to start allocating points?

These things do have diminishing results, so giving ten points in two stars will net you a better overall advantage then putting twenty in one.Should I keep them even, or max out one?
So I would say, spread it around in nice ten-point packages among those stars that support your build best, then start putting more in the most important ones (you should have it easy raking in the CP with the catchup mechanic anyhow) but never look towards maxing any one, but rather prioritizing the most important yet also doing the others that help your build.

✭✭✭I do a few points( using few in loose terms) in a single one per major( warrior mage thief) at a time. I usually wait until i can spend 4 or 5 points( sometimes as many as 20) in a tree before i assign any.0 -

Which is a good point for new folks to know, for the majority, fractions are ignored.
