cyrodill rant

hello,
i know this post will recieve a lot of hate and negative comments but i wanna share my honest opinion about cyrodill server performance. This is because i can see that people keep having problems but most of the players, either have just accepted the server's struggle to stay alive , or either they dont want to admit that server's performance is poor only because they dont want to promote any more negativity towards the developers.
All that are said below concern EU VIVEC server. Its the most populated server and the one that most people play. If u are about to comment that i should try another server (like non cp or the 7day campaigns) i will answer that i dont want to play alone or with 10 other people at 90% of the time. People play Vivec cause of the large battles and the excitement of rushing to capture keeps and taking part in big sieges and thats what im after.

So firstly i would like to admit that i honestly LOVE this game and have something around 1000hours played (not that much i know but a decent amount). The thing i enjoy the most is PVP (in any game not just in eso) and i tend to play in cyrodill mostly. Most of the times i try to hop into cyrodill at non prime time, like early evenings or late night cause less people are online and server's performance is decent-good. At those times i can play without any issue and everything runs as smooth as possible. Everything changes when times goes by ,more people come in and server gets a decent amount of players in queue . At those times there is a delay in every skill activated ,but be sure that after all this time playing the game i am totally fine with it. Its understandable for a server with a big amount of players struggling and having some latency issues.I can honestly deal with some 200ish ping and some delay.

The thing that i am most irritated and most dissapointed as a customer is that i get timed out and disconnected when a zerg is nearby (everytime) or whenever there are fights happening with over 30 players at a keep. This happens almost every time i encounter anything like this in cyrodill.
I have to notice though that only for ONCE after the summerset update i enjoyed a full scale 2hour and 30minute (estimated time!!!) siege that all 3 factions took place surely with 100players(should be so) in roebeck and i was so proud that i only disconnected ONE time. Of course latency was very high but most important thing is that disconnects didnt happen to most of the players, although lots of people kept logging in claiming they got timed out many times.

So with all of those constant time outs and disconnects that happen regularly , how can someone believe that a PVP related event is going to work out? As of this time i am writing this i have been trying for 1 hour to stay in EU VICEC cyrodill and enjoy the full stacked server but i get timed out even when im not near any battle. People keep coming into pvp even if they never tried it before and it makes the server struggle even more. Its completely unresponsive!! Sure opening a couple of servers sure took some heat off the main server but its not working out.

How can someone excpect implementing this huge event into this really problematic pvp server with this absolutely terrible performance to be acceptable? I find the lack of reports from other players about this issue kinda disturbing.Just for the simple reason that developers will just wait untill the event goes away or players will be driven away by poor performance and things will operate great again. Game is in desperate need of a performance improvement only because summerset performance improvements didnt work at all.

I dont thing i have all my thoughts shared with any brave warrior that is going to read this monstrosity but i honestly dont care cause most people will comment only to judge me.
One last thing to prevent any keyboard warriors from losing their time my pc setup can run any other game without any trouble like battlefield 1 ,GTA5 , witcher 3 at high settings always above 60fps.Also my internet connection is more than enough so save your time.

thanks for everyone who took their time to read this

TL:DR EU vivec performance is terrible and needs urgent improvement before more players will be driven away (once more) from this game.

Honestly i think eso would have double the active players with ease if the dev team was larger. The game would have a huge playerbase, cause people are still hungry for a good mmo but bethesda wants eso to be mediocre

I know that you addressed not wanting to move over into another campaign, but with this event those do have some great fights going, mostly without lag.

I only had one incident that disconnected me and that was cause someone accidentally pulled the plug on my modem.......sure i missed a good tick on that!

So it always seems to be the case that lag happens in big battles and the more ball style groups the worse. If they had more Campaigns and put population limits maybe the new ones wouldn't be empty.

I get it though its no fun when you are in pvp land and cant find any action. And its no fun to miss the action all around you from freezing.
    Ummm stuff… about stuff…or something.

I definitely read it, and, I agree...I'm a huge fan of cyrodiil (I play on ps4/na in vivec)...

it's frustrating though at times, due to performance issues, and, some of the scoring rules...

you can't regulate how others "should" play the game - but, it would be nice to have objective map play emphasized more...not sure I really like the new scoring emphasis placed on the scrolls...

what's most concerning is that zos doesn't seem to have a really great handle on implementing new content into the game...seems as though they are writing bad code over base code...

and, I would love for the population caps to be increased in cyrodiil - but, I worry population imbalances on some platfom/servers would just grow larger...

poor game performance definitely hasn't helped encourage more people to participate in cyrodiil...

Agreed. I don't think ZoS understands how important their server performance is. They've been promising to invest in their servers since launch. There's been no significant upgrade since launch, even though they've been requiring more and more of them with every major game update to the game. I started ESO perhaps 2 months after launch.

Let me be clear. This game ran perfectly, ALL THE TIME, with a 80-120ish ping at 60-90 plus fps even during massive battles. After 1.2 with the massive FX installment, and since with the increase in effects, new content in the form of abilities, gear, CP. It's created a massive load increase not only for the servers but also our machines.

It is promising to me some guildies are having a much better ESO experience on their newer high end rigs. They still get some lag in PvP but it's not even the same animal as those of us with a rig that was high end when the game launched. It seems rather than investing on their end they expect us to solve their problems by upgrading on our end. It's pretty sad when you think about it. They've known from the beginning what they need to do in order to provide the game experience we want. They are simply unwilling to spend. Much easier to charge $40 for a mount or Motif.

Another thing that ZOS are failing to realise is that PvP games are extremely popular these days, which would mean that if they actually tried improving both performance and balance regularly (instead of giving us 'fixes' every 3 months) ESO would gain a much larger player base, thus giving ZOS more money to improve the game more. Instead it seems that the marketing team is focussing on short term investments like the crown store, instead of actual improvements for PvE and PvP that can really help the longevity of the game and boost the popularity a lot.

Yup. The only thing keeping this game together for me is the PvP is still good. Most games PvP is "meh" so here we are. As is, I've been eye-balling some new releases and upcoming titles. It's obvious ZoS doesn't really give a **** about the hardware. It looks to be an interesting year for new releases.

Yes, I'm with you. I've had the problem since Morrowind. Joining a bigger fight usually ends when I reach the outer wall of a keep. I have written an InGame bug report on almost every one of these disconnects.
    Improvement? Nothing!
    Help? Nothing!

    All drivers are uptodate.

I have tested is with two different pc's with different operating systems (Win7 and Win10) on two different locations with two different internet providers and two different routers.
I took the test with a "Clear" system:
No virus scanner. No firewall. No WinDefender. No AddOn (empty Live folder).
    Always the same!
It's extremely frustrating how bad the game performs in these situations!

My theory is that zos doesn't believe the cost of improving server performance is worth the increase in possible revenue from a greater player base. The cash cow that is crown crates with the average performance we all see in pvp and pve is making them enough money to be well and truly profitable without the need to spend more capital to accommodate a larger player base.

I was placed 413 in que. So I tried this no CP campaign I heard was good performance and got right in. It did have good performance. But the NPC rocked me really hard. I think they were actually tougher than players. All 5 of us on the server.

bro thing is that i want a home campaign at all times, that has active players. I play pvp mostly and i dont want to "waste" my time playing for long at a 7day campaign that is full if only on prime time.

thank you for taking your time to read this and answering. I can agree with everything u said . Game performance drives away most new players or even veterans , even now that summerset was a huge success and it brought in a very big number of players.

U cant do anything about lag bro ,except moving somewhere close to where the servers are located.Maybe germany or something. Buying a better rig will result in you getting 10fps maximum in big cyrodill fights. Game seems to be fps capped at all times, either in tamriel or inside cyrodill.100fps seem to be the maximum case in most of the posts i have seen, also myself. But when fights happen 40-50fps are definately there. In huge fights u cant do anything than to drop down to 30. My rig is good and i am not interested to invest 1000euros more to gain 5-10 more fps.

EXACTLY dude. This game could be huge if only bethesda invested more in them and the dev team was bigger. People are starving for a good mmo (what happened with bless), but zos is scared to improve servers or game performance in general cause it will drain their resources and as it seems the game income isnt enough for server upgrade yet. So they will stick to pve improvements cause thats what brings more money

yea bro i play pvp with only 5 addons active . People keep thinking its their fault when its just the game

Yes , as i stated above their main income flows through pve stuff. Pvp cant be that much profitable. If they ever try to improve servers it will take away most of their time and money but it will bring them no direct income. It will surely keep players happy and satisfied and there is a big chance that new people will come in, but no one seems to be eager to take such a risk. I believe that if they grabbed that chance all that long time this game could be huge and just a tad lower than WOW is. People keep trying this game and they keep falling out, u can see it for yourself through steam charts that playerbase grows huge at new releases and after a while most of them go away. They will never grow bigger with this "safe" play, but its understandable and sane

bro most people here either want to be friendly till death with zos and comfort every single developer to the point that they will support them by insulting other forum members. It disgusts me. Also those kind of posts never get any attention cause of the point i stated at first.Everyone knows the problem but they avoid to confront it and support the complaints untill people are long gone and problems are gone along with the players.
