that's the part that's a mystery that might be true but not 100% confirmed like Snow Elves.

*takes a look at the lore becaus the only "bird men" I know are harpies*

    Huh, very interesting. http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Father_of_the_Niben , http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Bird_Men

My opinion is that Topal the Pilot is pretty obviously inspired by the Odyssey, and so I'll take it to have about the same degree of accuracy.

Now I'm imagining this part, "After Topal's departure, the Bird Men are never mentioned again in recorded history, and are believed to have met their extinction at the hands of the Khajiit long before the Ayleids migrated to Cyrodiil." looking like this:

I think real but probably extinct.
Maybe a shared ancestry with harpies.
Seeing as so many other animal/human hybrids exist on Nirn I dont see why birds would be far fetched.

Inclined to agree with this, though occasionally I wonder if the 'bird' men were in fact Argonians, as they aren't that far away and they frequently have feathers.

Well, there's the horse head people, and there was the vulpine (fox) race in Black Marsh. The last fox died 30 years ago, from the Knahaten Flu. But so were the Falmer and Dwarves, yet a Dwemer is alive in Morrowind (game, not ESO expansion) and the Snow Elves in Dawnguard Expansion in Skyrim. I'd love to see all of the "lost" races return. Plus, I'd love to fight a Sload.

They may of been werehorses but I remember reading they are from Atmora, the land on the other side of Nirn. There's suppose to be just as many odd creatures and races as there is on Tamriel.

I said no because they don't exist any more, except in tales told to young Khajit over the fire, about glorious feasts of ages past.

I think some lore does state that there were bird people long ago....but the pretty Khajit killed them all off....

....but hey this is Elder Scrolls Online at it is going to expand the lore massively. They might of flown to a different continent....or they were from a different continent in the 1st place and their colony was wiped out and tales of the monstrous cat people in Tamriel haunt them in their home land to this day...

Maybe that's why we don't have any currently or in any previous games. :)

And besides Harpies or a similar race, there's also another possibility for the "bird-men": Hagravens are magically created human-bird hybrids. There's a quest in ESO where one of the priestesses of Kyne gets transformed into one and it's either killed or cured depending on the player's action. There's also a quest in Skyrim where a you have to prevent a witch from transforming into a Hagraven.
