Regarding Bow/DW Stamina

I have, up until now, only played a magicka healer. Now I would like to stab baddies in the face (or back respectively) and take out people's knees with my arrows. In building up to this decision I have collected Velidreth's head and shoulders in Divines, collected 5 pieces of legendary Spriggan's (Ring x2 and Necklace with increased damage as well as two armor pieces with divines) and crafted legendary Hunding's Rage weapons and remaining pieces of armor, all of which are divines/sharpened.

My goal for this character is to be able to do dungeons, complete quests, the occassional trial, fool around in the Maelstrom Arena on normal and veteran and possibly get into veteran trials once I finish collecting the other sets. I want to be able to self sustain, but also put out decent damage.

Again, this would be my first ever stamina build, though whatever character I choose will already be in the champion levels (Just shy of cp 600) and have all of the weapon/class abilities available to morph.

I am asking for constructive reccomendations based on my experiences as primarily being a magicka healer and changing to stamina damage, for example: the learning curve.

Thank you in advance,
Demi

From a pvp perspective, the problem with DW/Bow is the lack of a weapon based charge ability. Hence, a class that provides a class based gap closer is preferrable.

That would mean nightblade or templar. Sorcerer works as well but it takes a while to get used to the fixed distance gap closer. Dragonknight and Warden class gap closers are very clunky to work with.

For pve, any class will work.

I Voted Templar. IMO they are the easiest to play and still pull really good DPS along with having repentance for sustain. i would also advise Redguard as a race as it is still by far the most sustainable race

Thank you for your response. I've not really delved into the idea of playing a stamina build in PvP at this time as I really enjoy healing in PvP. Once I get more into it, have grown accustomed to a stamina rotation, I likely will only do PvE things for now.

Thank you for your response and the link! I will read about the stamina templar.

With crit surge you can faceroll most Pve content.

It's got better survivability and does good damage - no brainer really.

Well most your damage will be from dw/bow.

You have hurricane for aoe DPS, speed and tankiness. Crit surge for buffing damage and healing. Dark deal for sustain. Bound armor for increase in max stam & Stam recovery.

Stam sorcs kick ass, they have good survivabilty via hurricane paired with crit surge. Good aoe and single target damage. They're also good in pvp. Race is tougher. Redguard for PvE, Orc for pvp and pve.

Stamplar would be worth it also for the heals.

Templar has a lot of utility built in to the class; purge, heal, charge, and damage multiplier. Even going all out stam, you will still have a magicka pool that can be used for these.

Thank you both for suggesting Templar. I've never really enjoyed the class until today, I took your advice and gave it a shot and I am really enjoying it.

Easiest class to get started on (and also very enjoyable) is stamina Sorcerer without a doubt. And its also one of the highest DPS classes among stamina specs.

The hardest one is stamina nightblade (by far)

For starters playing magicka is much easier than playing stamina, but in the case of the stam sorc it's cake. You want the easiest stam class to be successful with then pick this class.

    Avoid Nightblade.

Single Target: Night Blade. I don't think people understand the impact of Relentless Focus yet for DPS or Leeching Strikes for Survivability. I've been playing a NB for a while and Morrowind made it significantly easier to survive if you're willing to get vigor and caltrops.

Also, aside from running Kra'gh's as my head piece I run the same sets (purple spriggan's jewelry and 2x armor, 5x Hundig's Rage) which seem to be really strong sets for the current heavy attack heavy meta as stamina and stam regen do little to improve your la/ha damage whereas crit and weapon damage have a significant impact.

If you just want to run in and AoE everything down: Sorc.

Honestly, it's too early to tell how things have landed because people are still tweaking builds. We've started seeing some stuff come out, but it's mostly just how to cope with Morrowind changes at the high end, not this is the new BIS. Give it another month so the meta crafters have a chance to look at builds that are outperforming the updated old world versions.

I briefly experimented with a magika NB, but then switched to a stamina NB (yes, THAT stamina NB), and have stayed with it ever since. My interests are similar to yours, in that I do PvE (although mainly solo), with some dungeons and quests, and I dabble a bit with Maelstorm, and trials. I would be more engaged with the last two, but simply do not have the time.

I actually run 5/5 NMG/Leviathan (with Nerien'eth, more on that below) but you'll probably have the same issue when (like me) you're not running fully optimized trials gear (TFS + VO) - stamina sustain, in vet boss settings. Point is, walking the line between max dps and sustain requires good discipline with HA and LA, amidst a rotation that is already pretty complex, and I'm not entirely sure if the same level of joystick gymnastics is required across other classes. Regardless, the challenge is why I enjoy it.

Re: Nerien'eth...I get that people sprint to Velidreth or Selene or Kra'gh, but with no Caltrops (or Vigor, for that matter), my tendency towards solo, and the crit I can maintain, I'll take a relatively solid AoE boost.

It just seems sorc has optimal synergy with passives and actives...crit heal...sustained damage and shield...improved physical damage etc

That being said i wouldnt go for cookie cutter but rather try something new

The AoE damage of Kra'gh, Velidreth or Stormfist outclasses Nerien'eth by miles.

In my humble opinion stamsorc's are the easiest and most complete build in the game right now (along with Mag Sorcs {NERF})...

I go Orc Sorc and 2H/S&B... If you used DW and bow I think you would have a significant amount of DPS along with the fun of being extremely mobile. So many amazing options for stamsorc It just blows away the other stam classes in my view.

    Have fun!

.... Was gonna suggest NB because of siphoning. Then remembered it got nerfed, and Sorcs have Dark Deal. So, even though I love my StamNB main, prolly sorc if you're starting out. (also, in trials healers will be giving you the minor berserk)
