Mag Sorc DW vs Destro

Gobsta
Gobsta
I saw this guys using dual wield on a mag sorc. How is able to have so much damage? Are dual wield sorcs better than destro?

DW has innate higher spell damage and there's a passive to increase damage with swords. It also gives you an additional set item, the second sword, which you ccn use for damage.

DW is not better. Generally, most people run a destro staff for sustained pressure and the ult. Some people do make DW work, but it's in a very specific manner and occasionally gets countered pretty hard. The advantage lies in higher burst potential, though.

I wouldn't recommend DW, but you should test it out for yourself, if you're curious. The people you've seen in that video were absolute beginners that don't know how to block or dodge or even when to heal. Not representative of true PvP experience at all.

Normally I would agree but this dude has a a couple 1vX vids doing the same thing. And he's got dueling vids where he smashes against tremor scale heavy armor wearers.
This dude must an exception to the norm cause wtf I've never seen a DW Sorc like this... again wtf

It takes a lot of practice for the timing you need to do this. This player is also pretty good. I see him on ps4 Na a good bit. However you don't know how often he plays and records videos. This could be over a few weeks of playtime or a few days. Never know the campaign either. But I've got to admire his work.

How is he hitting so hard?:

He actually isn't, that's pretty standard damage. What you are seeing in that video is no impenetrable traits on his opponents.

I know exactly his stats just based on experience.

Notice a lot of crits, especially for what moves he is using. High damage on those crits.

Curse, entropy frag wrath really simple.

After rewatching it looks like a 70% crit chance with minimum 20% but probably an additional 30% crit modifier

A really good Templar can out-heal a destro ult bomb. They last about two seconds under pressure in a negate, which works well for a DW sorc in group play.

That guy is very lucky. Those DC are a ton of really bad (and I mean REALLY bad) PUGs on Skull of Corruption.

I can't find the equivalent for EP or AD anymore. They're all just zerging :/

Meh. All of his opponents in that video have an allergy to blocking, dodging, healing and suchlike. Whether they didn't expect a lethal burst or were to fixated on offense, I cannot say. But those players made mistakes, and that's why he won.
Against someone who's expecting the burst? A player like that would prepare and mitigate the burst and then DW would underperform the next five seconds. The destro user would keep up the pressure, and while he wouldn't win in ten seconds, he would slowly eat through shields and hp until a weaker burst is enough to finish.

He shredded them anyways with offensive pressure. Dont adt like you can predict the future Lord Otto so don't act like just because someone uses a destro staff they are automatically better. Here's my build with my DW sorc, they are perfectly viable although a lot of people disagree with that.

    PvE:
I'm on console and I am the only player to solo either vWGT or vCoS.
Grand Council on PS4 NA completed vMoL HM before PC NA (and runs it all of the time now).

    PvP:
PC seems to get many more new players filling its PvP and allowing much more 1vX, whereas on console there are far less new players in PvP (probably due to performance). It is uncommon for players not to be running some sort of cancer build while zerging. Due to the lack of players in PvP, running solo for 1vX is not really an option anymore. It's either small group, zerg, or gtfo. Granted the very best can still get a few kills before getting zerged down, but that's it.

This player here is strong for sure. He is very lucky though because Skull of Corruption has always been the DC server for PvE players and new players to quest and get Tel Var. The AD and EP portion of the population that used to do that either left Cyrodiil/ESO or are zerging on Scourge :(

I would not say console player are bad anymore. It's just ignorance these days.

    Look closer.
They conveniently walk through three mines at once when Curse goes off.
He's not pressuring. You clearly see him spamming Fury when the burst hit. Had they healed or something, he would have wasted time.
I'm not predicting anything. Though I can actually see into the future and tell you the next time we meet, I'm gonna make you a trophy on my wall. =P
Anyway, the situation I described was from experience. On both sides, with or against DW builds.

    I agree with @Lord-Otto

His opponents were very incompetent, not saying he is a bad player, but that doesn't showcase skill. His meteor killed 3 people, meteor is one of the easiest ultimates to mitigate... And 90% of his opponents weren't even CP capped, or knew how to dodge roll for that matter...

DW is viable but I prefer Destro.

I prefer it too, but I can't seem to get a half decent build going with it. Really high max magicka is hard to get without the extra slot. In fact the extra slot is probably the number one reason to go with dual wield.

If staff counted for two set pieces I'd drop DW like a bad habit.

But with DW you can get the effect of both five piece sets on the main bar. and they can be damage sets (like Julianos and Spinner). That in addition to the monster two piece. That's what I like about it.

Staff has to do it with alchemist or Lich fifth piece on the back bar.

Have no fear though, every DW sorc has to carry a change of clothes for a PVE staff build. DW isn't pulling 30K sustained DPS for trials or HM pledges.

Trainee, Spinner, and a 1 pc max magicka monster set.

I'm running over people in PvP with this build.

27k health, 47k magicka front bar (only inner light), 51k Magicka (Will power sword and board! If not master resto), 14k stamina, Atronach, 1200 recovery as a Breton. Dual stat health Magicka food.

I cannot push this build on this forums anymore than I already have. It's by far the best offensive/defensive build I've ever theory crafted.

That's actually an excellent setup. I might have to check it out for a DW build using swords. The only issue I see is 1200 recovery, Id have to run Atro and witch brew with something like this for another 400-500 recovery.

It's really nasty as a Dual wield Build, but I'm not a fan of it. If you wanted to run it DW though, you could add another monster piece with health on it, and use Mag recov and max Magicka food. Then you sit around 1800 recov and 22k health.

Edit: also that's 1200 base. Using a pot and continuous and you're up around 1700.

Mine is almost similar at the mo..

    5 Trainee (jewels, chest, boots)

    4 Lich (body) + Resto

1 piece max mag monster set.

Front bar is 2 willpower swords (sharpened when I get them!)

I don't have great traits yet on my Lich gear and some trainee jewellery is still blue and I don't have the undaunted passive yet and nothing is golded, but I get 46k mag on front bar (inner light only) with 26k health and 14k stam with good recovery (spell dmg could be better though) Theres definitely room for improvement on that though with undaunted and better gear traits.

Oh, that's in Cyro with health/mag food.

I also tried Trainee and Julianos which was nice for spell dmg but not so great with sustain obviously.

And for most PVE content, I just switch the 2 swords for destro staff of any kind and switch the skills around.
