So I turned my nightblade into a ganker...

A few days ago I was reading a thread about ganking requiring skill; I wanted to see for myself, so I changed up my magblade that I have been using for Maelstrom. I have to admit I am surprised with how it performs and how much fun it can be to jump into groups to see if I can get a kill and escape. I am also surprised by how many people fall for the whole "chase me" routine.

That being said, I am new to this and was hoping to get some feedback on my gameplay. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated  !

*EDIT* This is two months old. I don't use this setup or these skill bars anymore. If you are interested in knowing what I'm working on, I can make a new video but as for now everything is still a WIP .

So what do you think, does ganking require skill? I'll be honnest with you, i watched video, and I try hard to see some skill, but i dont. All I see is invisible guy oneshoting people and dissapearing right after kill. They dont even have time ro react and fight back.

For ganking, the killing part takes lesser skill than escaping.

@Czirne Imo, the actual "oneshot" or opening combo just requires the right gear, cp, stats, and some practice...though I do agree with those that say it requires patience and common sense (don't try to gank the malubeth blazing shield templar). To be more direct in answering your question, I don't think "the kill" takes skill, but picking your targets, planning, and executing your escape do.

In the end, isn't the point of a ganker to get in and get out without being seen?

I'm sorry I sounded like a ***, I did mean no offence. I meant that your video really proves the point that ganking requires right gear, but not much skill. But it has to be satisfying killing people like that, i can see why people like this playstyle.

Just out of curiosity, what gear are you using here? It seems to be Alchemist on Frontbar, not backbar ? Do you use any sets to buff heavy attacks, or just CP allocation for that?

You're not going to gank anything but scrubs with a Magicka Nightblade.

You can gank those same people with a dual Resto Stamina Sorcerer wearing 7 light armor.

@Czirne No worries at all, you definitely didn't come off like an a** :). Everyone has their own opinions, and I knew going into this how some felt about ganking. But yes, it is pretty fun ganking people mid tbag haha.

@raasdal Alchemist on the front bar only due to the backbar maelstrom resto...though if the gods of rng ever bless me with a sharpened inferno staff from maelstrom, I may change some gear up. I don't use any sets to buff the heavy attacks, but I have considered swapping in elegance to see how that would compare.

@Lava_Croft Good thing scrubs still give AP.

Each playstyle requires some skill, some playstyle just require more skill then other! It takes lot more skill to 1vX then to kill some player who is off guard!

playing ganker as a NB in general isnt really that hard, show me a good Stam templar or sorc ganker that successfully gets away, then i'll be impressed.

face it NB's have it all, burst, resources, utility, control, mobility, flexibility, buffs, debuffs, heals. the only thing NB's lack is a sustained long fight damage (aka: PvE worthy damage), which leads me to believe their burst needs toned back but general damage output needs buffed.
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread

If you ever ganked on zergs you'll notice the playstyle requires a lot more skill than peope will give it credit for. Being the only AD around 40 EP while ganking can be extremely difficult to make kills and get away to make more.

ZOS should so something about that crazy high crit chance. I haven't seen a single dps build that doesn't rely on crits. It wouldn't be a problem if it wouldn't be so easy to reach 80% crit chance. That's just insane. Only in ESO.

It is nice to see a magblade in pvp. Have been struggling lately. I would love to hear more on the build and how you get the high numbers on your destro heavy.

Yeah I thought stam heavy attack could only do it but, 12 -16k destros from stealth are nice. Even with might of the guild, those seem pretty high. I'd love to see your stats and gear too.

@Lettigall That's when I see good 1vxers...not the ones that just post videos of them fighting potatoes haha. But yes, those that are good at it are a great sight to see :).

@dsalter I think a lot just depends on the build tbh, and I wouldn't discount mag nbs in pve content at all. I would venture to say sorcs need more help with long sustained damage in pve (when overload runs out) but it's hard for all of us console players to tell what exactly our dps is at.

@Bane_of_Fringe Yes, for sure haha. I have just started though so I have only been brave enough to jump in the middle of zergs a few times, but I learned quickly that shadow image is quite possibly the best skill in the the nb's toolkit.

@Surgee Actually my crit chance is pathetically low (I think it's at like 48% in pvp), but stamblades can get some insane crit numbers.

@slaterd Thanks! I usually just play magicka nb as a heavy armoured, sustain focused build, but thought I'd give this a shot. For the most part, I just focused on bumping up heavy attack damage as high as I could get it (this includes champion points, empowering it, and using shadowy disguise to give me a crit). I also enchanted my staff with the prismatic enchant to get bonus damage on all of the vampires running around. The final thing that I am assuming helps (though if I am wrong hopefully someone corrects me) is that I am a dunmer so I get bonus damage with my fire staff.

@ScruffyWhiskers Yeah, I originally was going to go stam, but I figured I could do the same type of thing with my magicka nb. The highest I have hit in pvp was a 23k heavy crit :D . I will take some stat screenshots for you today or tomorrow then struggle as I figure out how to send them to you in a message haha.

Ganking does require a degree of skill. Mostly it's choosing the right target, escaping, and using the correct combo to get that burst. It's not necessarily the hardest play style but neither can pugs gank anyone. If the ganker does everything right and the victim doesn't have the skill to react correctly then the ganker will win. If the victim is more skilled than the ganker, knows not to let their guard down, and knows how to react then the ganker will lose. So there is some skill (not just gear) that goes into ganking.

Here's what happens if the ganker(s) don't plan their attacks or use the right combo

@Bakven Your video definitely shows the importance of picking the right target. I avoid or wait to attack anyone with a shield up, and I never use mark because it's like you're begging the target to block, dodge and buff up haha.

I think ganking is for the patient person who doesn't just "see red" and lose all sense of logic (those that keep trying to gank and get revenge on the person who has killed them over and over again).

    Anyway, nice kill !

Exactly, usually gankers aren't that great at duels, but that's not what their build is made for. Gankers hold all the advantages right up until their first move, so it's really their fight to lose.

    and thanks

I'm a master ganker, so my guess is 5 alchemist, 5 elegance and 1 molag kena, all divines. For cp's 75 into staff expert, 73 into elemental expert and rest into elfborn. Try that setup and tell me if it works.

@Bdawwg Thanks! I don't think I use shadow image enough even. On console, most don't even know what it is/how it works, but man has it got me out of some tough situations. I also love its value in duels.

@BruhItsOver9000 is almost dead on with what I personally use. I'm making my next video comparing my current setup vs. the elegance set-up.

Oh now worries about that. I was just curious what your magicka, spell damage, and recovery were. I figure Alchemist + elegant would be the best. The key is getting that destro attack to land with might of the guild. It's really too bad stygian was left out with the old set rehabilitation. that would have been nice.

So many warriors through out history ended with an arrow to a knee... er chest without every seeing their opponent.

I think of ganking like that, "assassin" or ninja

It's all apart of combat, templars imo, are like samurai or knights (same with dks)
