Magblade or sorcerer for pvp?

Is it any good? Only have experience with dragonknights so far. I don't wanna be a ranged magicka fighter but more melee with s&b and maybe a staff? I also have a magicka templar but I'm not liking him so much so that leaves me with a lv20 altmer magblade and a lv9 altmer sorcerer which are currently doing nothing.
What would be more fun in pvp if I like to play a more melee magicka build? I'm just tired of my dk's for a while

If you don't want to be ranged, you might really enjoy a stam sorc.

If you want to stay magicka though, mag sorcs can make very good tanks. And magblades can make very good healers/sap dps...or tanks...just try something different.

Another vote for Stam sorc.

Take a look at Fengrush videos for build advice, and some footage of what the real gameplay look like. See if that looks like something you would enjoy.

Magicka sorc is a lot of running away. And dying...

How would a stam sorc play exactly? Do the have stam class dps skills? I don't want to rely on a 2hander for rally and wb or ds for dps because I hate that might even think of switching my altmer magplar to stamina or is that just plain bad because of altmer?
Sap dps tank also looks interesting, might look into that first. What is that exactly?

OP, stick with Magplar( aka magicka templar), its the melee magicka fighter.

Just use these rotations:
Channel focus> toppling charge> puncturing sweeps (till the target is dead, also weave light attack)

For boss:
Entropy>channel focus and the rest as above. When the boss health is low the use radiant destruction.

If you want a mag build, I'd go for sorc over nightblade but then it depends on your playstyle. I main a sorc and have been enjoying it since as long as i can remember. But yeah DO try out stam sorcerer. Its soooo fun man

EDIT : just saw that you didn't want to rely on 2H and Rally. Go dual wield with crit surge layer those DOTs and burn everyone on a stam sorc.

You'll probably have better luck with a magblade if you PVP but PVE Sorcs are pretty nice just don't PVP as a sorc or your gonna have a bad time.

In PVP, mag sorcs have been reduced to ***. It was a wonderful class to play but not ***.

I'm fine tuning my magplar and grinding my books with him, magblade is next and then a Stam sorc I think

My recommendation is magicka nightblade is really fun & really hard. Sorc is much more straight forward with the playstyle.
If you're a new player I would suggest sorc.

Altmer isn't the best race for a stam sorc, but if he's only level 9, it's not a big deal to start over with a more stam friendly racial choice. Personally I've only used a Khajit for a Stam Sorc relying on Crit Surge (on DW bar) and Rally (on 2H bar) for self heals.
Dark Deal can dish out some great heals and stamina regen.
Definitely check out Fengrush's videos for some ideas of how stam sorcs play. It's a fun build and you can do your own thing with it whether you want a bow backup or all melee.

Magic sorc is definitely not dead, you can build enough sustain and damage to remain as op pre dark brotherhood. For me I dropped my mag sorc since theives guild and have been playing around with mag plar and mag NB, even though they nerfed proxy I never really used it on my melee NB so it hasn't affected me and it's amazing for both solo/group pvp and pve!

Nothing stopping you from playing magicka sorc in melee range (melee range frags op), but I believe NBs do melee magic better. When sorcs and mageblades fight 1v1 they tend to be pretty even, build dependant obvs.

Ah...yeah that's not something you want to delete. Well, if you don't want to be a ranged caster you can give him a shot as a stam sorc. Dark Deal converts magicka to health and stamina, so it might not be a bad thing. You'll have better than average magicka regen which you'll be able to convert to the resource you need.

Magicka Sorc tanks can be fun too, if you're into tanking. Restraining Prison on enemies inside your Negate is a good group utility.

Play what race you want, you can change it later when the new patch drops. Don't stress the alter thing.

Im gonna level my magblade, was thinking s&b + destro staff or is a resto really needed? I figure if I can get by using dragon blood on my magDK I can using swallow soul on a magblade or am I thinking wrong?

Resto is needed for an actual heal in pvp, (healing ward). Im using dual wield atm and the burst is incredible i can kill almost everyone who doesnt run enough impen from a lotus fan to a concealed weapon combo from cloak. I might try sword and board but there really isnt any benefit tbh.

I recently switched my Stamblade to a magblade, and it's really fun to play in pvp.
Especially in open world Cyrodiil. It sure doesn't hit as hard as a stamblade, but being able to perma cloak through zergs is lots of fun.

Use fear efficiently and you are in business.

Both are still great in PvP, I personally would say Mageblade over Sorc in terms of which is more fun, Sorc just eradicates people insanely fast still and can still shield stack 4 days if pressured til their opponent runs outta resources...unless the Sorc ofc gets dog piled on....so Sorc for more effective option, FOTM kiddies will tell you otherwise because they are being told it isn't the best anymore by their lords and masters.

That's also the defining characteristic of a magblade.

Unfortunately magicka sorc was nerfed so much that you can't run away anymore.

and dodge roll is way better than shield stacking.

dark cloak was nerfed so it won't remove dots anymore. so that's an easy counter to magblade, just dot them up. and of course the best counter to nightblade is another nightblade using mark target.

pvp wise, magic builds, other than the niche magic templar, are less effective than a stamina build.

For a class that used a skill like cloak, that lasts 3 secs... a shield for six secs is like "OMG, what are you complaining about sorcs?"
