OP, stick with Magplar( aka magicka templar), its the melee magicka fighter.
Just use these rotations:
Channel focus> toppling charge> puncturing sweeps (till the target is dead, also weave light attack)
For boss:
Entropy>channel focus and the rest as above. When the boss health is low the use radiant destruction.
For players, watch this:

also, get some more info about builds from @blabafat
Edit:
But if you like stealth, then go for magblade ( although its not that OP in the DB patch, due to the nerf of proxy detonation)
For magblade build watch @sypher

Another vote for Stam sorc.
Take a look at Fengrush videos for build advice, and some footage of what the real gameplay look like. See if that looks like something you would enjoy.
Magicka sorc is a lot of running away. And dying...
Does this hold true in a 1v1 scenario?twistedmonk wrote: »pvp wise, magic builds, other than the niche magic templar, are less effective than a stamina build.
P.S.: I'm kind of wondering about context here. I started using Dampen Magic in my melee MagBlade build and I'm REALLY liking it. Granted, it's only effective if I keep it on my front bar and use it almost "rotationally".twistedmonk wrote: »and dodge roll is way better than shield stacking.

Here's what I'm wondering: Is this an effective 1v1 tactic in a solo ganking build? I really like the playstyle, but I'm hesitant to invest too much more if it's just going to be a study in frustration.
I have a ranged DPS/healing build for group play, but I just wanted to know if y'all think a melee/shield build makes an effective 1v1 fighter.
Thanks in advance!
