Blazing Shield, Damage cap?

vpadget9592b14_ESO
I decided to bring back my Blazing shield build and have been bombing flags and keeps like crazy and dropping the inexperienced players who don't understand what's happening. My favorite is chasing the smarter players while the noobs are spamming me making the 501s drop like sacks of potatoes...lol. fun fun. My issue though seems I am capped at 8034 damage (critical) which most would say awesome since I spam it every second...but the issue is I could have 5 guys or 20 stacked...the cap seems real. Anyone experience same numbers? If they did cap it why not put it in description like proxy detonation does? Tested both PvP and pve also. Same numbers....although I swore I saw a 14k once but I'm sure it was 1400 with another hit overlap. Either way if it's capped please add a description on next update. Still having a blast though juggernauting into a group of siegers and watching g the chaos unfold. :)

I have been hit for 10k BS by a 60k health Templar.

Yes, it's capped but weirdly. You can get higher than that with champion points specced right. I have about 52k health on my Templar but I've seen it crit for like 9.6k.

It's a dot so put points into thamaturge and elemental expert if you haven't already.

I'd be careful right now with Tham. I don't think it's scaling right with BS. I tried BS with it maxed out and the results weren't as good as all points into Elemental. Right now I think I only have like 10 points in tham and consistently hit for over 10K BS's in Cyro. I have ~60K health though.

The forgotten tribe of BS Templars have returned, as had been foretold. As heavy armor continues to increase max health by a percentage point every year or so, there will be more.
  • vpadget9592b14_ESO
Well I'm sitting at 52k health without undaunted or gold enchants or gold armor...and zero into thaum since I read it's not a dot anymore..and hit for 8034 constantly. I will test putting points into thaum to see if they put it back by accident as they did the teleport to tower bs that is going on...total chaos everywhere. Lol
  • vpadget9592b14_ESO
Oh and Sneak I'm on Xbox Na also but EB. Let's test some numbers. :)
  • vpadget9592b14_ESO
Oh and I think you all did answer the question. We are capped according to cp and health it seems. Whether there are 30 players stacked or 5, we still don't break our own individual caps. Mine being 8034...others with higher health 10k. Whish they put it it into the description. Although I think it's bugged and the bonus 4% per person hit is not counting towards the explosion capabilities. So our initial casting is the 19% in cyro that we are allotted. If anyone can confirm more testing would love to know.

Wonder if putting points in Spell pierce would have a decent ROI ?! Never fooled around with a BS build.

Thaum does NOT increase blazing shield anymore. Max tool tip damage I can muster us 66% compared to before 74%...so damage is lower but not by much. The next best place for points Is spell penetration
  • vpadget9592b14_ESO
I have tested thaum also and does nothing. And I have tested spell pen and also critical damage Inc and conclude for my build the criteria increase is by far the bedt since I have 49% critical chance and the criteria are rolled individually per person hit. So doing increase in crit mathematically seems to be the next best thing...will test it tonight. I'm worried the damage cap will still run off max health though and it's still not counting the extra targets hit which increase your bubble size but does not increase the damage...tested with mobs. Had 20 stacked and capped me at 8034 which was NOT in cyro. In cyro with extra 5k health hitting 10 players I still capped at 8034. So my test concludes it is not counting the cyro buff either on top of not counting the extra bubble absorb per player/mob hit...depressing. I hate bad coding. I know others are hitting for 10k but they also made it clear there base HP is around 10k more HP base than mine. I am sitting at 51k they are around 60k.
  • vpadget9592b14_ESO
Also if anyone can test something on the PC I'm wondering if the problem is that we are not getting the 4% increase per player hit bonus shield...when I hit those 20 mobs I never saw my shield get any bigger than when I hit 5... this could be the issue why our damage is consistently hitting for same numbers...and why only your HP cap is the only true damage it does.

Update. Got my health to little over 61k and I hit for 11k plus with Crit. That is putting points into extra crit damage of 15%. People are melting fast...lol. I'm still not gold in any armor or enchants or undaunted bonus. And yes the healing sustain is ungodly with Mal's monster set. Using armor master ,Mal's,3 piece jewelry of fassallas with sword and shield endurance. All points into health.

The max damage you can do with Blazing Shield is based purely on the size of the shield. That means health and Bastion are the only two ways to increase the max damage. However, things like increasing your crit damage, spell penetration, and magic damage (haven't tested if spell damage will increase it) will increase your shield's damage up to the maximum set by your shield size.

Synozeer I agree. But if you read the description it increases your shield strength by 4 per player hit...so if hit 5 players should be 20% more. Is that 20% more of the initial cyro 19%? Or 20% more health making total in cyro 39% more of health? If it's the 39% then the damage I am doing doesn't come close to reflecting the damage I am doing. Unless it's like (round up to 40%) making it 5 players = 24kplus 12k crit . Then halving for cyro 18k the. Reducing for mitigation...then I can see I guess 11k.

Oh that. I don't think I've ever seen it work. I just pretend it's not in the tooltip. Maybe it's only for the other morph and they forgot to remove it from the tooltip of the Blazing Shield morph?

The other morph absorbs more per enemy hit. Blazing Shield absorbs less at 4%.But I think it's not counting toward the explosion damage. Either way at constant 11k bursts doing it 8-10 in a row when 20 plus guys focus me I guarantee to kill any poor soul who is standing next to me consistently . Have fun videos of running into ad while they sieging DC and made a crater of 9 bodies. There siege melted to ground and the rest were killed by blue...poor souls. My Blazing Shield hits for 11.5k against players. That's without Undaunted passives. I suspect it to rise to about 12.5-13k once I get my passives. It will be hitting for a rate of about 8.3k non-crit.

I've noticed that while you can get a sweet amount of damage with 80k health, that even a 50k health build is almost just as good. I'm still playing with it, but 50k health seems to be the sweet spot to get more boom from other skills and more regen. I wont tell yall my secrets, but my new 50k health build is ten times more fun XD

50k is the benchmark. You lose too much and don't get a great shield anyway.

Also bastion makes no sense to max out, but players will have to find the sweet spot for their builds. Dmg mitigation is also calculated before the shield and the crit is ignored. So impen seens to be useless if the playstyle requires you keep a shield up. I'd say 50k health, 2k magicka regen, infused/divines on most if not all gear, a block cost reduction trait on belt, and get spell penetration/crit at a good lvl.

Bastion should raise the amount of health the shield bases itself on, correct me if I'm wrong here?

I put myself at 50k health to put on Vicious death. Was hitting 11.5k(with bastion) with Crit at 60k. Now I took off bastion and put myself down to 50k and I'm capped at 9058. That's crits AND normal...9058. So it would seem it's hard capped and bastion pushes it over the cap. Will test 50k with bastion see if I cap at 11.5 again. Also I'm not using anything above purples.

Bastion changes the tool tip. It raises the tool tip percentage value by like 5%. Anyway the max the tool tip can say is 19%.

Checkout @Gottbeard and look at his build (check his Discussions). I've decided to run something slightly different but the basis is the same and it enables for high health and high sustain. I like to think my personal setup has less health pool but higher sustain. All in all it's a fantastic build video and outlines some decent set combinations. I was going to run something similar before seeing the video but he pointed out some things that I never considered and upon implementing them has boosted my output extremely well. Worth having a look.
