Inventory woes: corrupt tooltip text and unexpected 'created by' listings

This is troubling. Items in inventory have garbage text when I view them. The name of the item appears to be okay, but the tooltip will be mangled. Also a number of items have bizarre and unexpected created by listings. For example, sabatons (or what have you) will be created by 'X', or by '[], or by 'n' (N.B., the quotes are mine). And if that is not strange, some writ reward containers will also have a created by listing.

Some items cannot be improved. For example, there was a set of Engine Guardian shoulders that I needed to improve from purple to gold, but my master craftsmen could not find them from either the bank or from its personal inventory.

What gives? This is both annoying and troubling. Inventory is part of the core of the game. Please address and fix this.

This happened to me tonight, too!
About half my inventory says Created by: (gibberish). Some were actually created by someone and it overwrote the name... Others are game-generated. (Half my crafting survey maps claim to be created by someone).

I have not tried to upgrade anything, so I cannot speak to that. I would suggest checking if the shoulders are locked, and if so unlock them and see if that solves that issue?

do you know you can not improve locked items? confused me too! LOL unlock it, improve it lock it again

Okay, I am certain that the improvement issue is not an issue at all; it was probably user error: looking for a cloth item when actually it is a metal item. Mea culpa.

But the other problem with the munged text and errant created by text did occur. And thankfully, for now at least, it is no longer happening.

I have to say that my ability to trust this game diminishes with every incident like this.

did you ever figure this out? it happens on occasion to me and I have to log out and back in.

@dkjasonb14_ESO Nope. Other than the generic support response I have not received or found a meaningful solution. It is a cosmetic defect, but a defect nonetheless. I like how it sometimes displays code listing (e.g., for loops and what not).

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom Any hope that this will be fixed? It does not appear to be a game breaker, but do you folks really wish to display your code to the mass of users?
