Best Race for Magicka NB (PVP)

For magicka NBs the best racial passive to boost dmg is the 10% dmg bonus while in stealth/invisible.

This makes Bosmer or Khajiit the top picks (only races with those passives).

Khajiit gets (bugged) weapon crit, this is useless for magicka builds.
The 20% health regen and 10% stam regen are useful on magicka builds but the effect will be small.

Bosmer gets 21% stam regen and 3% poison resist, these effects will be reasonably noticeable.

So this makes Bosmer the best race for magicka NBs because you can get the most burst dmg, this burst from stealth will be higher than Altmer of Breton with 10% extra magicka.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree here. The 10% extra magicka regen of altmer permits to go with more spell damage (or shadow mundus) on top of the 10% max magicka thus its the best damages wise if you want a sustainable build. That being said sure if you want to go full burst from stealth bosmer is the way to go with juliano shadow and kena but you will be oom in <4 seconds and then ded because you can't cloak away from this zerg.

    Hi,

as a new Nightblade too, I have learned that High Elf is best race if you go for good/best magicka regen, so you can go other mundus than Atronach. If you prefer to go into more survivability than you should choose Breton, also for some magicka cost reduction. If you wanna go for higher dps type of Nightblade than you should choose a Dark Elf. Of course you can choose any other race but these 3 are preferable for magicka Nightblade. My PvP mentor showed me already that any race is able to become a good Nightblade both in PvP and PvE. Stats are secondary thing, first of all it's about "skill".

    Cheers!

High elf would be best for pvp in my opinion. Dark elf for pve as most damage comes from fire (weaves and blockade). As you said any race is perfectly fine as champion points can closely even out most stats (other than min maxing). Simply work to your races advantage. I switched my stam blade to magblade last patch and I'm an imperial which just means I can CC break and dodge roll more just with slightly less regen and max magicka.

I never thought of the bosmer for magicka nightblade, I have a bosmer stamblade who may need a respec! My magblade is high elf because of the elemental damage bonus, high elves are made for force shock, and force shock goes really well with lots of endgame skills and gear (nerien'eth especially). Here is some recent debate about force shock for night blades.

I happen to be in an interesting situation where I have all 3... Its a long story (that started at launch), but basically I started with a Bosmer Nightblade that I wanted to run with a bow and daggers before I understood how powerful Magicka builds were. When we had soft caps it didn't really matter as much what race you were anyway, so I just switched my Bosmer to Magicka. Later I started leveling a EP Altmer Nightblade for... reasons, and then I decided I wanted a min/max AD Nightblade so I made a Breton.

I am actually happy with all 3, but I hit my highest DPS numbers in PVE with the Altmer. The Breton is probably the more sturdy (not by much) and the Bosmer is the best in PVP because of stealth burst (also has max level Assault/Support).

From a resource standpoint Nightblade skills are cheap. The primary "spammable" Funnel Health on my Altmer costs 910
with 92 Points Magician 75 Points Arcanist (~882 on a Breton) and since I also have Siphoning Attacks the only time I ever have resource issues is during long AoE fights. For single target you will have to really try to run yourself out of magicka with any race choice especially if you weave "medium" attacks on a Destro.

Given this scenario the cost difference between the Altmer and Breton (910 - 882 = ) 29 points is worth ~58 regen if your weave is about 1 second. The bonus to regen on the Altmer is a little harder to quantify because there are so many gear sets that give it whereas cost reduction is only on a few sets, but if your regen is 1000 then 9% is worth 90 regen. If you are talking about Cripple (which is only cast 1x every 8 seconds) the cost reduction is worth more like ~16 regen (2157 cost * .03)/4. Blockade of fire (also 8 seconds) is the same cost on my Altmer so add another 16 and you have approximately 90 regen in cost reduction. Given that armor sets are worth 129 for a bonus we are not talking a large difference here for the racial passives. If you sacrifice some spell damage for regen (substitute Transmutation for Willpower jewelry) the Altmer becomes stronger than the Breton since the 9% regen is calculated against the 2 regen bonuses, but magicka cost will remain the same.

So in conclusion, if you are running a build that has more than 1k regen you are probably better with the Altmer, but if you are going to be less (Julianus + Willpower + Molag Kena + Torug's Pact = No Regen bonuses) then it doesn't really matter. If you are going for a high burst from stealth build then Bosmer.
