Guild?

I'm a new player. Do I need to join a guild? What are they for?

You do not NEED to join a guild. If you mean player guilds that is. The in game guilds though, such as fighters guild, are basically quests/skill lines, you will get them anyway.

But yes if you mean the player guilds, basically they are a way to trade with each other, AND the general public in game if they buy a guild trader. This means you can list your items for sale in the guild, and not only can guild members buy them, but other players too.

You can also talk in guild chat, and organise group events, one to one trading, or ask questions and discuss the game. Whatever you want. There are guilds that focus on all kinds of things, from PVP to just Dungeons. You are not required to join a guild.

In my opinion, guilds are place for people to congregate with similar interests. For instance, I am a member of Tamriel Stock Exchange. I joined solely so I could sell items within their guild store. I am also a member of Greybeards and Gals. This is a guild where older gamers hang out. This is more of a social guild for me as I join in on group events, talk on TS (Teamspeak) and trade with members of this guild. There are many guilds in ESO with many different interests.

Personally I would suggest you join a guild since you are new, check out the Guild Recruitment section of the forums. It is a great way to meet new people and lots of guilds are willing to help out a newbie.

I asked the question because I checked the guild recruitment forum. I don't understand any of it...

Guilds are good for trading, questing, end game content like Trials or w/e.

Many join 2/3 trader guilds and PvP or PvE guild and maybe create your own guild.

Guilds are very social and can be a good laugh and in some ways make the game more enjoyable, as it is a MMO after all, and if you want some you time, then do what you wanna do:}

Welcome to the game OP and have fun more importantly.

Join guilds when you want, you will often see advertising in zone chat, or maybe some will talk to you and ask you to join their guilds, theres good and bad ones out there however.

EP=Ebonheart Pact
DC=Daggerfall Covenant
AD=Aldmeri Dominion

I would say that Ebonheart Pact under a few months have been the magnet. (I have been here since beta) Every Alliance have its turns. but i guess most people have gone over from aldmeri dominion to ebonheart pact since the most of the old beta players are still there and the once on aldmeri dominion are as good as gone. That is my experiance.

Yes, it is downright frustrating. I made a character way back on AD nad EP and had no problem finding groups for group content, on DC it is annoying as hell. Thank god we get cross faction group finder next month. You can scan through the guild recruitment pages and find LOADS of AD AND EP threads, but you will be hard pressed to find some large DC guilds.

I do everything, pvp, pve, group dungeons, rp, and I would like to try Trials one day as well. So a flexible all around guild for DC would be nice.

That´s what i have and what we do but we are all ad I dont know any dc Guilds that do them. BUT i have known but just forgetten the name of them.. If i enconter anyone that do this stuff on dc side i will be shure to give you a messiage.

We are present in the Imperial City as well as in all the playable zones and factions, with experienced team-players and individuals. We are organized in connection the "rogue-like" aspects of the game (this has been detailed in our thread here), with weekly thematic events. We have a quite stable trader for now, and some of our members are expert crafters. We can share our thoughts on our forum-site, and if needed, we are able to use voice communication also. See all my characters, including my only vet character are on DC, if you guys have DC players, I would consider it.

You should know, the WEB is quite a "general-purpose" guild now, as there isn't any real content possible for special thievery-like activity. So the rogue-ish playstyle is not really a matter for us now, we are chatting about ut, we steal and do not dishonour ourselves because of it, some of us kill NPCs, hunt achis, and we organize our stealing-pickpocket event weekly.

So we would like to see your barbarian in our roster

Don't take it like that. I will go without guilds I think.

Even I have to accept your decision about guilding, I strongly advise you to find one, at least for chatting, trading, crafting, doing some group content etc.

You won't regret it, but if you aren't satisfied, you can leave it in a second (after a short mail to the guildmaster, in which you write down the problems you encountered with).
