Character Name Explanations

I have a variety of characters called Shuno and this was an old name originally from Phantasy Star Online that i then used in Star Wars Galaxies for 8 years. As well as many other games like WoW etc.

Vragnora gra-Dushnihk: Vragnora was an orc rogue in WoW i used to play and the gra-Dushnihk means that they are from the Skyrim Orc hold of Dushnihk originally.

Squirrel-Girl: Named after the bestest superhero ever!

Grunhilda Trollsbane: Er.. i think i may have made this character after watching too much of that TV show Vikings, although the name is original i think.

    thoswe are just a few..

    Gahrex

It is a mix of Jel and Imperial tongue that translates to the Great Emperor. Gahrex's clans were known as fierce raiders, feared by Imperial and Dark Elf slave traders, until a number were captured by their Salamandrus kinsmen and sold as slaves. The name remained, slowly changing as their lines became infested with a magical sickness which cursed any magically inclined Gah-bloodkin to be partially or fully blinded depending on their hold over magic. It was said that the greater a Gah's blindness was, the stronger their magic became. Their names eventually became Gah Ei, the descendants of Gahrex: those with Great Eyes.
  • Rykage
    Rykage
    Soul Shriven
My most used IGN is usually Rykage with differing last names depending on class, race or role. It's pronounced rai-cage, and not rai-ka-gay (Raikage from Naruto, no.). I combined two of my favorite characters from Mortal Kombat, Raiden and Johnny Cage, and I mashed them together to make Raicage. I didn't like the look of it, and I changed it to Rykage, and it just...clicked for me.

My main roleplayer is Kvothe Wolfbrother, a male human spellblade of clan Aeiln, an ancient clan of mystics and shamans with the ability to converse with spirits of nature and living things.

(The first name, Kvothe, comes from the protagonist of the book series Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. The name Wolfbrother comes from the book series Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (and later by Brandon Sanderson), where Wolfbrothers are people who have the color of their irides turn golden after first contact with the wolves, and they can telepathically talk to wolves, see through their eyes, even feel what they feel, eventually turning into a man shaped wolf themselves, if not guided properly.)

(This intro is mostly from WoW, and I change it slightly to match whatever RPG I play, though I haven't made one for the ES games yet.)

Kvothe Wolfbrother was born in the middle of a thundering tempest tearing through his clan. The Clan Elders had proclaimed that the end times were upon them. However, the end never came to pass. At his first wail after being born, the storm stilled to no more than a slight breeze, and wolves, said to be reclusive creatures, surrounded the clan's huts and howled as one, welcoming the first Wolfbrother to be born in centuries. Kvothe was named after the clan's legendary hero, Kvothe Bloodless, the first namer of the clan. Growing up, it was discovered that Kvothe not only had mastery over the elements of earth and fire, but also had limited control over air, water and spirit, a feat no man since Kvothe Bloodless had accomplished.

He is now 30 namedays old, a mighty spellblade trained in the ways of the sword by masters all over the continent. He holds the Black Crane, a single edge bladed sword imbued with magical energy. During training, Kvothe managed to understand the true name of his sword, Callandor, allowing the soul of the weapon to link with Kvothe, and gave him the ability to talk with his sword in his mind, and the ability to unleash the magical energy tempered within the blade. As a Wolfbrother, he is never far from his pack, and can reach out to them in times of need. His wolf brother, Sharpclaw, accompanies him on his journey.

My main is named Kynaa Stormchild. It seemed like a fitting name for a Nord female warrior. Kynaa was inspired by Kynesgrove and Stormchild was inspired by Stormcloak and the "Warchild" character from "Point Break" :)

I named my Argonian NB assassin Screaming-for-Vengeance. It's a reference to my favourite band. I do also have some fan fiction explaining how my character got that name but I don't really feel like typing out the entire thing. =P

Ok my character name is Jezus Crist because for some odd reason I can't put the real thing. He is a healer as well. I just wish they would show characters names on console instead of PSN names or Xbox names. How cool would it be to see Jezus healing you

Remina - I always name myself Remedios in every game, but I already used that name up for my 1st char. For this one, which later turned out to be my main, I wanted something that was similar and eventually I came up with this. Once I did some googling for fun, and it turns out Remina is an actual Nordic name, which is pretty fun considering I'm a Nord. :))

I also named my boyfriend's char, the dark elf Daryn Ralvani - I just googled dark elf names and created possible combos and we both liked this one best.

  • caseycurtis89_ESO
My characters name and backstory kind of came together in a jumbled mess but it sort of works out.

When I first started playing (beta and launch) I named my character Grimnír because at the time I liked it. The multiple ways I wanted to spell it were taken so I settled for an accent mark over the " I ". Then I quit playing and started playing other games and started to become known as Calus amongst the circle of people I played with. Then I came back to ESO remembered my name and hated it and wanted to be Calus. Then I decided I would give RP a try and came up with a story and background for my character but kept his name as Calus for his background in hopes that one day they would allow a name change.

Then I had an idea and started doing research on the name, Grimnír. I found that Grim has another meaning besides dark or depressing and is also a meaning for relentlessly severe. Then I looked up meanings for, nír, and found that thanks to the direction I chose the action mark to face it was Gaelic for to make or to be made.

So I discovered that his name could mean, to be make or to be made relentlessly severe, which I thought was bad ass.

Since my character is a vampire I came up with a backstory about revenge and how when Lamae made him a vampire she gave him a little extra shot of it and then gave him a new name and title to go by. So now before he was a vampire he was Calus Requious (Imperial obviously) but since he couldn't go back to his normal life (reasons explained in his background) he was given a new one.

So now I love the name Grimnír and the whole background I have been able to come up with story line has really shifted the way I play and view my character :].

    O.O *Pounces.*

I didn't expect to actually see a Guildie here XD,

My first character is an Argonian Templar named Stands-Against-Death. I don't do serious RP with her, but if she ever gets pulled into an unexpected RP scenario (which happened quite recently), I've decided she is mute. Her names should be pretty obvious 3.

My main RP character is a Sorcerer Argonain named Speaks-To-Stars, Her name was granted to her by the Dunmeri couple who found her washed up on the shores of Ebonheart at roughly six years old. To them, her black eyes resembled a night sky, and light reflected from them looked similar to stars.

A secondary main RP character (dat contradiction tho) is a Khajiit NB named Kiju Veran. Kiju's name actually has a more complex history. One of my OCs (not ESO-based) is a werewolf, who was in turn based on a Kyuubi character named Kiju Vera. When I decided I wanted to have a Khajiit I'd do some RP with, Kiju Veran already sounded perfectly Khajiiti, so I didn't have to really think too hard on coming up with a lore-appropriate name.

My character names always have some sort of fitting meaning of some kind, even if it's a bit convoluted lol.
    Character List [RP and PvE]:
Stands-Against-Death: Argonian Magplar Healer - Crafter
Krisiel: Redguard Stamsorc DPS - Literally crazy Werewolf, no like legit insane. She nuts
Kiju Veran: Khajiit Stamblade DPS - Ex-Fighters Guild Suthay who likes to punch things, nicknamed Tinykat
Niralae Elsinal: Altmer Stamsorc DPS - Young Altmer with way too much Magicka
Sarah Lacroix: Breton Magsorc DPS - Fledgling Vampire who drinks too much water
Slondor: Nord Tankblade - TESified verson of Slenderman
Marius Vastino: Imperial <insert role here> - Sarah's apathetic sire who likes to monologue
Delthor Rellenar: Dunmer Magknight DPS - Sarah's ex who's a certified psychopath
Lirawyn Calatare: Altmer Magplar Healer - Traveling performer and bard who's 101% vanilla bean
Gondryn Beldeau: Breton Tankplar - Sarah's Mages Guild mentor and certified badass old person
Gwendolyn Jenelle: Breton Magplar Healer - Friendly healer with a coffee addiction
Soliril Larethian- Altmer Magblade DPS - Blind alchemist who uses animals to see and brews plagues in his spare time
Tevril Rallenar: Dunmer Stamcro DPS - Delthor's "special" younger brother who raises small animals as friends
Celeroth Calatare: Bosmer <insert role here> - Shapeshifting Bosmer with enough sass to fill Valenwood

My character is called Face of Melinda. I was listening to a lot of Opeth and their song Face of Melinda really got to me, so when I started playing it only made sense I name my character that. I ended up having a name, but no character, so I made her with a burnt face, really skinny, with a sad face, to somehow catch the melancholy I felt. But I ended up choosing wrong hair and earrings. Waiting for a barber shop now. :/

My first character, a female wood-elf Nightblade, is named Breksta. Breksta is one of the old Lithuanian dieties, the Goddess of twilight and dreams who protects people from sunset to sunrise, could also be another name for Vakare/Vakarine which is of the Evening Star.

I thought the whole "twilight and dreams", or "evening star" fit well with a character who prefers the calm of dark and tries her best to protect people (in a mostly selfish manner, however - she is still a thief and a bit of a pirate).

My second, and now main, is a Breton named "Jacquotte" named after the caribbean pirate. The name is simply a name, however, and may be considered a bit ironic as Jacquotte is a goody-two-shoes Templar who even turned down the 2 free skill points from Sheogorath because her moral compass and alignment with the 8 divines would not allow her to harm someone intentionally.

Every action taken throughout the game, including a crisis of identity where she went on a rampage killing 100 innocent civilians, has been taken with this in mind (she went a bit crazy after killing molag bal and assumed everyone was working with the worm cult... it was not a good day to be in Khenarthi's Roost).

    Lestari.
    Meaning: eternal, abiding.

As soon as the young Dunmer was born, there was a sense of dark presence which followed her. It was not a feeling that filled you with dread. It was a sense of power and dominance, somewhat intimidating. No-one could fully explain the sensation felt when being around the girl, neither could they make any sense of it.

Until one evening she returned to her hometown with blood red eyes.

Two mains are Krist "The Lionheart" Lindor and Hughe.

I created Krist (as well as Hughe) back in the 90s when playing a private rp Ultima Online (UO) server. Krist is actually Kris with a "t" on the end, his full name actually being Kristofer. Sometimes he is Krist Lionheart, sometimes Krist Lindor. Lindor came from a royal family name of an rp UO server where he actually became king. The Lionheart nickname is not as obvious as one may think. Krist had a very good and brave dog named Lionheart. Someone said "here comes ole Lionheart", referring to the dog. Others thought they meant Krist, who is also brave. Krist has tried to explain that, but everyone just thinks he is being humble.

Hughe comes from the word hue and is pronounced that way. He will always be known as Hughe of the Purple Robes, because purple is his hue. My signature explains it.

Heru Ghor is another one with a story to his name. Heru, in Tolkien Elvish, means Lord, and Ghor means Dread. So he is either Dread Lord or Lord Dread. Yes, he is a very bad man. He was created as an antagonist on a UO private shard that I wrote story line for, having almost god like power over the undead. He could very much be compared to Manimarco, except Heru was an extremely powerful Lich who could never really be destroyed.
I very much enjoyed writing him and watching hundreds of people play off of that story line. They would ask when he was coming back, when he was not used for a while. He is one of my favorite bad guys.
