Does siege damage need to be nerfed?

KillKapps
KillKapps
When running a group in cyrodiil and you see another group, why is it the first thing people do is set up siege? It does a lot of damage, that's why. Why would you build your character to do damage when you can set up a fire ballista in a field and take down 50% of an enemies health, if not 100% of it, before you actually go to engage them. This game should be about skill to skill combat, not who can place more siege.

PvP in its current state is warfare, not an arena. Historically wars were won by people who put up the most siege.

Siege in eso is not overpowered in my opinion. First there is the rediculously long reload times, then there is the fact that you are completely exposed and oblivious to a rear or even in most cases a side attack. The enemy is notified of your incoming projectiles and can roll neatly out of the way, or put up a bubble and remove the effects afterwards.

In open battle go around artillery or rush it. If the artilery is aimed at the door of an inner keep you are sieging, go upstairs and around it.

It can be countered in tons of ways. Nerfing it further would make it next to useless.

First of all this game can be compared to real life in the fewest amount of ways. Nobody wants a real life simulator. People want a fighting chance and getting hit by 1 siege that does 90% of your health bar isn't exactly fare. Especially when they are somewhere you can remove them from. Im not asking to remove siege, Im asking to nerf it so it isn't the first thing people do when they see someone.

I have only seen people bust out siege when around a castle or resource flag.

I have no problem dogldging siege weapons. The other day I was taunting a castle that had 4 of them sitting on the outer walls trying to hit me. It was simple enough.

You don't play ESO on console then. Never any less than 10 siege on screen at any given time.

The present state of siege is buffed from release. Back then, siege did nothing. You could take a ballista bolt, trebuchet boulder, and flaming ball of death square in the chest and lose 10% HP at most. Aside from Meatbag and Oil Catapults, siege was pointless when your sword and walking stick could hit far harder.

    Now siege is something.
    Don't take that something away.
    It's what makes siege siege.

Ive played Tavia (Xboxone, NA) for probably 20+ hours, and even in the biggest battles dont recall ever getting hit with or even seeing seige in some random battle not near a castle or resource. It would be a silly battle decision.

Ive seen one nightblade take out half a dozen seige weapons in a row before.

Leave the damage as is and simply extend the initial setup time.
Damage itself is fine. People should die upon siege hit anyways.

Actually this game is completely about siege warfare and large scale PvP. Watch the promo video.

Also, try putting purge on your skill bar to see how ineffective siege really is, or just don't stand in fire.

I guess I should have changed the poll title to console only. I played pc and they understand these things. On xbox im the only one standing after my entire faction gets completely rolled by a siege line. If the siege damage keeps up the way it is, there wont be many xbox people to play with since they are all 8 year olds and don't understand words yet.

The players on console will just have to learn how to either move out of the red circles or purge. They should all wipe if they don't. If you lower the siege damage then you are just going to let zergs roll over everything, its already and enough how it is on pc where siege is meaningless because how easily purge can be spammed.

I personally don't like that option. While sieging and under attack, you cannot react. I think that change would encourage mostly covert operations type siege and further reduce the PvP part of players fighting against each other over objects.

EDIT: I think I would prefer to have lightning balistas deal more frontloaded damage to players (enough to break through barrier with two timed shots, think of 15k per shot) and keep the rest as is. That way, those would actually be useful and a measure against zergs without too much influence on individual players could be achieved without making siege in general overpowered.

Siege could actually do with an increase in usefulness, not a nerf. The power of it is fine how it is, but I think siege could do with an improvement by adding more secondary effects, things like disorients, or snares, and other such things attached to the damage. I know some siege already has some of this, but we need more for siege to really pack a proper punch. As it is now, it's too easy to just roll dodge, and if that doesn't work just purge or heal through it. Siege is not very useful outside of farming noobs, or taking down a keep wall.

I feel like ballistas should have less of an aoe and the others should have longer reloads to prevent spam. Lower the damage done to players slightly to allow somewhat of a fair fight. Also to make the weapons work more efficiently more people could be added. Aim, load, fire positions. Allow camps to be set up outside the fight so you don't have to run a hundred miles back to the fight when you are killed by a SW. Camps could be burned down like SWs can be.

actually, siege needs a buff against perma-purging stacked groups.
Though I would suggest said buff to happen via a nerf to purge...
