PS4 Text Chat

Hello Folks :>

i want to start a discussion of how all the console players feel so far with only VOIP chat.

In my opinion the voice char works only semi, if i compare it to for example ff14 on consoles.
Its nice to have, and is a great tool, but a real text chat window works so much better for group,
guild chat, trade advertising, new players ask questions and can get a answer via PM ( via voice to much spam^^ )

For that i know ESO does some things other, but every game has room for improvments :)

How do you guys see this so far, is the voice chat enough for communication in an mmo or would you like to see a text chat on consoles too ?

I see no problems with the lack MOM! BRING ME AN ICE CREAM! xt chat in the game. Proximity based voice chat is WAAAAAAAH iously just as good, nay, better, for communicating wi NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP, NEVER GONNA LET YOU DOWN ayers to sell stu HEY BUD, WHERE YOU AT? I CANT FIND YOU nd to socialize in a calm and frien ANYONE HAVE IRON ORE TO SELL? tmosphere and enjoy the gam BABABABABABABABA PTHBTHBTPTTT

    On second thought, scratch that.

I want text chat, but NO area text chat. Optional/additional text chat for groups & guilds I think would be a good compromise
  • doomtrigger
Well everything is broken ATM no voice chat not text and no subtitles when they had text chat and subtitles during the beta and PC has both.

Needs a text chat, bottom line. NO way to sell anything outside of guilds, no way to promote guilds, no way to sell services, and if the group finder messes up, no way to find group, really who wants to stand in town on mic going "looking for group blah blah" for hours. I could really use a way to block mics too, i leave a channel and it always reenters to some pimply faced teenager hitting puberty or a thug yelling the n word all the time.

Yes, we need a chat. we donta have any way to sell anything or anything social (invite for guilds to new players, hard comunication on guilds/ chats, etc.) would be good if we have a chat to do that things.

I have no idea how this escaped the minds of the developers.. It's essential for any MMORPG to atleast have a General/Trade/LFG/PVP chat channels for text. I understand the voice and party voice I feel that aspect is great. However I feel it is incomplete until a text option is added. Even narrow minded games such as Grand Theft Auto even has a text option in game. Definitely in support of this thread. ;)

Hey, sometimes my 15 month old gets ahold of the controller, what's wrong with seeing/hearing "DaAAAADAAADAA, EEEEEeee, pppppfffffttttttt" (wack wack wack wack wack wack, sluuuuuuuurp/slobber)???

Text chat, wireless keyboard, good to go.

The the two reasons chat was left out are chat functionality was not ready yet, and they wanted people to get used to the group finder. Am sure down the line they will add it.

yeah, for this i opened this thread to discuss it :)

for myself kam fine without textchat, but i will play most of the time solo, cause communicate with the voip chat just doesnt do the trick^^

in an multiplayer game like this its important to talk\write with others.

It can go either way to be honest. They want to keep the sociality in ESO. If they go without text-chat I truly hope they add alot more quick chat options.

I can go either way as well, but the public voice channels in every city sound be checked out. Like for instance, if a microphone has a constant feed of noise, you could warn those people automatically that their mics are probably not adjusted that well
Find what you love and let it kill you

FFS Defiance had working chat when it launched. Just a simple type and /t and /r. Add/Join/Create channel. Not much to ask, although I think they didn't add it as it would add a lot more load at launch and they already showed they could'nt handle the amount of players that logged in at launch.
    There is no try.

Going to add my two cents here...

I finally got around to actually playing the PS4 version last night (and yes, I came from PC). I was a bit weirded out by the voice chat at first, but I got used to it and started to like it.

Unfortunately, I find it tough. Why? Well anyone who has a question needs to run around and just ask random people and hope someone answers? I would hear a dolmen go off and think.. Wouldn't it be nice to call out that the dolmen is up and call in help?

Unless you make some (most likely failed) attempt to pronounce someone's PSN name - no one knows who you are talking to, and in the midst of 3 conversations it can be confused, as (at least for me) it doesn't quite work like real like where you kind of "ignore" or "drown out" other conversations.

I grouped up with 3 separate groups last night in PvP - and all of those groups had people (as in, the whole group) did NOT have chat. They would message me via the PSN system, which, well, in Cyrodiil is no good. I wanted to help people out with the extremely limited knowledge I have about Cyrodiil (repairing keeps and doors, how to set up siege) but it seemed impossible having to constantly stop to chat. (Yes, I had a keyboard hooked up, so at least the PSN chat was easier)

I personally feel less inclined to randomly chat someone up while out and about. Maybe this is due to my PC game experience - text chat is less personal and easier to spin out. I find myself too shy (I guess? I'm not normally shy) to just randomly start talking to someone.

Many of these concerns of mine will go away once the guild is going strong - as I'll likely just group from people within my guild, although I will still think that I will feel it's tougher to meet new people with only voice chat.

PS- On that note... is there NO proximity chat in Cyrodiil? I understand not wanting it in the middle of the battle field, but being able to turn it on at your main gate or nearest keep to a battle would be nice so you can chat with people, group up etc. Maybe there is, but whenever I was in Cyrodiil I was not given an area chat option.. just guild.

Maybe once I play it a bit more, I'll be used to it and enjoy it. I definitely can admit most of these are just issues to me because I'm used to having text chat.

[EDIT] I think a huge step up would just have the ability to whisper someone in game (not via PSN where I have to practically get out of the game). Or, if I'm just a complete n00b at console and there IS a way to answers those easier, please let me know. (I picked up the app, but phone was almost dead so it was off charging)

I have zero interest in using text chat in a console MMO. It's one of the reasons I left FF XIV. If I want to spend more hours of my day typing I can just play on PC and enjoy the better graphics.

That said, I don't care if they put it in as long as I can turn it off. I don't want to watch gold seller spam scroll constantly. Or read bad Chuck Norris jokes. Or watch the constant flame wars that make up most "conversation" in PC MMO chat boxes.

My only real fear is that if they put in text then 'the community' will decide using voice chat outside of groups is frowned upon and those of us who prefer it will start getting grief for using it.

I will say they need an easier way to mute people and/or make proximity chat on a 'push to talk' system so we don't have to listen to music or background noise from people.

This game is starving for text chat. And I also read in game that we need 50 players in the guild to do certain things. I don't know about any of you but I dont want to voice chat with 50+ people at once. It would make things easier to manage if you had both voice and text.

Guilds get up to 5 channels, if I remember right. More members = more channels.

good thoughts, iam in the same spot, always played on PC. Last MMORPG i played was FF 14 on console, and i think they did a good job with their way handling the chat, its basicly the same on PC ( chatwindow to create seperate channels etc )

That said, I don't care if they put it in as long as I can turn it off. I don't want to watch gold seller spam scroll constantly. Or read bad Chuck Norris jokes. Or watch the constant flame wars that make up most "conversation" in PC MMO chat boxes.

Yeah that could occur, like in every other multiplayer game, but in my opinion idc, its at least a sign that people communicate with each other more often, even than thats the worst case you described, their are other cons to it too, and an MMORP lives from his community, so idk just as an option would be nice, same with subtitles.
