Where is PvP headed longterm?

They are poised on a needle between moderate success and complete failure. The launch did not go well at all and the money is simply not coming in the door.

Leaving garbage linger (state of pvp) pollutes the game regardless of direction, the fact they don't communicate anything to the player-base is a bad sign for the future of this game.

If they continue this track record they are going to turn around one day and no one is going to be there, its has a solid foundation but how long do they expect people to wait.....
The numbers thing is always going to be there, but it’s more down to player skill and there are ways through ability choice to configure a group to be stronger vs. large groups of people. - BRAIN WHEELER - 2012 - LOL

The NA servers are getting more and more empty with each passing day. Right now we have a handful of servers with alliances that populate different servers to avoid one another. Only at primetime will the vet server populations lock, and only for a short period (an hour, maybe). We enjoyed a great boost of players when TU came out... but that is over now and populations are dwindling quickly.

Since there is no communication from ZOS, most assume that little is being done... and they are probably right. It's a shame, too. There are so many people that have zealously held on hoping for improvement... now I just feel like a fool for continuing to pay the sub for this long.

Having watched PvP wither away and die in three MMOs to date (SWG, STO, LOTRO) I can safely say that ESO is quickly following the same path.

Once the PvP playerbase has had enough of being jerked around, the game becomes purely PvE pay to win-centric, and drudgery for a few hardcore Elder Scrolls fanboys.

    Unfortunately this is so true..

Would small scale PVP or Cyrodiil mini-games change your guys' P.O.V?

It would make the game 100% better for me

I`m not sure Zos even knows where PvP is headed since the last post by any Repersenative of Zos responding in any thread on the pvp forum other than to warn about names, or to lock a thread was April 17 almost 2 months ago.

But since they told us for half a year it was not going F2p, and closed down any thread bringing it up only to go F2p anyway, there`s not much they could tell us that would be believable anyway.

I can't count how many I've been through like this going all the way back to EQ 2 with Rift being the last one before this.

My take is simple. They won't give so much as a peep of input regarding anything pvp related anymore which tells me that they are avoiding any kind of commitment one way or the other. Yet anything relative to the crown store gets instant feedback.

    It doesn't look good.

Knowing the actual market for pvp these days imagine the massive amount of players this game would attract if they made an effort to make it a priority.

10 years ago pvp was a dirty word in the world of mmorpg's unless you played L2 or some type of Asian grinder . Now mobas are king , look at the massive multi billion dollar business revolving around league for example.

MMORPG companies are living in the past.

    And "Dark Age of Camelot"?
That was 2002 and the PvP was basically the same as in ESO, as it was the same guy behind the program code ;-) (no longer working on ESO... .... ...) Google for more informations, if it is of interest. This guy is now working on his next project: "Camelot Unchained", which, who would guess it, also looks very similar to ESO, DAOC, Warhammer and other mmorpgs (no NCsoft [snip], hahaha).

And look how everything is working, less lag and less "bling-bling" effects/spells (last video).

Although I sure hope it's not the case. But it really feels like it!

Come on. Really. Unrealistic view of the road ahead.

There is no lag in that gif, it does not show the Saptank that the car landed on shake off the damage, and clearly the car was driven by a Templar that was intentionally driven off the road by a blinking mage. It does show a good idea of the fall damage exploit though.

    Sry I didn't mention DAOC Francescolg .

I tried it after that update they did , Atlantis or something like that but the population was really low and the game seemed a little dated. It has always been given positive feedback by the pvp community . One thing I remember is they didn't allow cross faction alts in order to prevent spying .

First time I have logged in in almost a month on the forums, but I really wanted to contribute to this thread because I'm still sort of mourning the loss of the game. Honestly the biggest problem in this game amongst the lag, unbalanced radials, grind oriented play, rediculous damage to defense imbalance, item dependence, the uselessness of spell damage, class favouring and faction favouring, is elitism.

The way it looks to me, the disparity just seems to continue to grow and its unlikely its going to change.
Orienting player PvP strength around time commitment, regardless of the importance of reward to time ratio, is a recipe to kill the player base. No one wants to play a game where a handful of people are invulnerable to everything and have all the resources, while new players are cannon fodder.

That and the fact that real close range combat is dead is why I have stopped playing.

I think PvP on PC is getting worse and worse due to class and faction unbalance

If they were smart, they should implement some form of easy, instanced PVP to complement Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil will probably become a desert, but other games kind of did instanced PVP for a reason...

I personally hope they code in some small man pvp arena in the near future. Preferably 3 man.

Before you all say something smart or witty about the state of PvP which isn't helpful, where do you see PvP longterm....honestly.

Me personally, I'm hoping that long term the issues of 'lag' or rubberbanding are identified and fixed. I'd also like to see exploiters and I mean proper exploiting, not the "I died in PvP to a player, so he must be exploiting" kind. I'd like to see other things fixed in Cyro as well, but honestly fixing the Lag would go a long way right about now. Thing is, I have no confidence that this will actually happen.

I'm sure console is a priority right now for ZOS, but your losing people out the back door in droves, and the way Cyro is right now with console right on the cusp of release, I don't see that being anything but having more players leave out the back door in a month or two, but this time console players, not PC.

I'd love to see battles that literally include 100's of players from all sides thrashing it out on the battlefield, but I've got the feeling that it's never going to happen and wabbajack early release pre-lighting patch is just a fading, distant memory.

So, PvPérs... How do you honestly see the future of Cyrodiil longterm?

I can't see that far ahead into the future. Pretty sure we'll be dealing with the same *** for the next year, just like we did for the last year. I've got no indications that it will change anytime soon.
