Where is PvP headed longterm?

Before you all say something smart or witty about the state of PvP which isn't helpful, where do you see PvP longterm....honestly.

Me personally, I'm hoping that long term the issues of 'lag' or rubberbanding are identified and fixed. I'd also like to see exploiters and I mean proper exploiting, not the "I died in PvP to a player, so he must be exploiting" kind. I'd like to see other things fixed in Cyro as well, but honestly fixing the Lag would go a long way right about now. Thing is, I have no confidence that this will actually happen.

I'm sure console is a priority right now for ZOS, but your losing people out the back door in droves, and the way Cyro is right now with console right on the cusp of release, I don't see that being anything but having more players leave out the back door in a month or two, but this time console players, not PC.

I'd love to see battles that literally include 100's of players from all sides thrashing it out on the battlefield, but I've got the feeling that it's never going to happen and wabbajack early release pre-lighting patch is just a fading, distant memory.

So, PvPérs... How do you honestly see the future of Cyrodiil longterm?
Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

Lag and exploits are the two biggest concerns. I really feel that there are tons of people out there who would enjoy it a whole lot more if those two issues could be resolved to generally satisfactory levels. Even PvEers would enjoy it. I'm a PvEer. I normally don't care at all for PvP, but I find that I do enjoy ESO's PvP mainly because it's not little cage fights and it is limited to one very large zone as opposed to being all over the world. And because killing hostile players is part of the main goals, but is not the main goals in itself.

Where I see it go: nothing will really change. Lag will always be a problem. Crown stacking is always going to be beneficial. Maybe they might fix that but no matter how you look at it: greater numbers will be the winning ticket in the end. Small groups might be effective vs large unskilled groups. But small groups vs skilled groups... (Duh)

Champion points will make new players rage quit. No new meaningful content for pvp will ever be introduced to bring something new to the core gameplay.

Where I would like to see it go: most of the above is fine to me. I just wish that the most effective tactic would no longer be --> stack close enough on the crown so he can file a sexual harassment lawsuit. Followed by purge/healingsprings/BoL/aoe spamming like a bunch of crazed amphetamine fueled chimps.

Also: make HA more effective. My two cents

Easiest way to see where its headed? Just look back and count how many patches did anything good for PvP, So far i can count one or two. PvP have no future but the best we can get is a bandaid to keep it alive a while longer.

I hope for long term pvp, after console release I hope the team gets to work and starts to address the issues in pvp, it is a slow wheel and the dev's can never get things fixed as fast as the players would like it to be, but they have a list of things to work on that's for sure, as we all know number one is lag, population imbalances, balance passes, bring the pvp back to more of a mmo feel not a battle field shooter feel with all the crazy insta jibbing, if they can get a handle on some of these issues pvp in ESO could flourish for a long time, guess it all depends on how much time and effort Zeni wants to spend on this part of the game.

I am going to lean a little on the cautiously optimistic side until I see what happens after consoles release and when the dlc's start to come out.

Imperial City could be a great update for the pvpers if the lag is reduced/solved. If this isnt solved most players will probably go to their alliances buff campaign to pve in Imperial City, at least for the first couple weeks.

I have the feeling Imperial City is either going to make or break ESO, a lot of loyal players are mainly focused towards pvp. If Imperial City fails they will have nothing useful to do in this game.

The steel tornado/meteor spamming lagfest isnt very inspiring to pvp atm, small scale fights are still fun though.

Agree, when pvp works it is glorious. But sadly i loose patioence waiting for those moments. As a vr 7 scrub my pvp consists mostly of riding mount , joining group (solo im just a free ap) few seconds of fight and im dead again, witch is not so fun.

Where do I hope it's headed?

I hope they narrow the extremes down, so 1-2 second kills before your opponent can react are only possible in outlier cases, rather than being the norm. In the other extreme I hope the crazy tankiness I see when 1 guy can block/heal for 20-30 seconds with 5+ players and 5+ NPC's also gets toned down.

I hope they fix the "stuck in battle" issue, even when after you are dead, or when you are all by yourself with no one around you for 1,2,3 minutes at a time, perhaps introduce a "no hostile action for 30 seconds" rule automatically puts you ooc.

    I hope they improve lag....

I hope they can eliminate exploits that I seem to be seeing on a more and more regular basis.

There is so much more, but what I think will happen is really not much. It gets more and more frustrating to PvP every day and I have been less inclined to log in daily.

Having watched PvP wither away and die in three MMOs to date (SWG, STO, LOTRO) I can safely say that ESO is quickly following the same path.

Once the PvP playerbase has had enough of being jerked around, the game becomes purely PvE pay to win-centric, and drudgery for a few hardcore Elder Scrolls fanboys.

Nowhere at the moment, exploiters and zergers (aka [snip] and anybody that follows them) are ruining any dynamic pvp throughout the NA server and every attempt zeni has made to fix these issues has resulted in even more horrendous exploiting and zerging.

When a gaming company encourages the player base to spread out and do different things, removes game features (e.g., forward camps, bugs, and deer,) and then vocally admits that upgrading hardware won't fix a coding/software issue, pvp is going nowhere.

It's been 1 year since launch and the problems have gotten worse. The game doesn't work as advertised. Massive pvp doesn't work without ping sky rocketing. If this was a no kidding real business not a gaming company where people don't care, they would have been sued for false advertising.

The only thing saving this game is console. That will become their cash cow provided it works as intended. Hopefully, they won't have the same issues or as catastrophic issues as pc. However, it also means that Zos will devote more time and resources to console. So pvp on Pc may take a long time or may never get fixed.

I hope nirnhoned fix will make the game a bit more enjoyable for a while, but in the end I'll quit when I feel the imbalances caused by the champion system have become simply too high. I don't trust ZOS to be able to take some serious measures against that, so player skill will matter less every day.

Imperial City will probably come with some easily exploitable grind spot, a zergball of players who think it's cool to try and take the fun away from as many as possible, some gank groups who will all pop out of stealth together once you killed the first one or two who jumped you and many PvEers who complain that people kill them when they don't even want to PvP, so ZOS will give out warning for harassment.

Ikr. I like that too, I like this game in general. But it doesn't matter when you can't play due to the lag and stupid bugs all over the place.
And it's even more disgusting that you have to grind hours and hours to get into any decent pvp, equal in terms. Right now I'm at my mid 100s on CP by playing few hours everyday or 2, and I know some people are already close to 300s. It's really disgusting to know if I duel with that guy, he will simply outperform me just because he killed some stupid pack of mobs over and over everyday. And I have no chance to catch him on CP board without doing the same mindless grind. It's awful man..:/

I had lots of hope for this game but it descending day after day over a year when I hop into Cyrodiil. This last update did just break my desire to play simple it is. Im guessing it is same for many others.
And for now, I'm waiting that upcoming major update to see what they're gonna do and I'm still hoping and waiting they will make it work someday. But it makes me feel stupid.

Lag that will not be fixed...

Zerg vs zerg... It's hard to find fights that aren't either boring (too easy because you're running with so many people) or getting overrun because you're outnumbered by way too many people... I play a sorcerer most of the time now - and I do love it - but it's because it has the tools to cope with masses of players much better than my DK. And at least I can kind of choose whether I engage in a fight or not.

    CP system destroying things:
    * Too much regen - infinite roll dodging + cloaking is already possible for nightblades, and it's all about burst and a single wellplaced (either on purpose or accidentally) CC just before that burst so the burst can't be blocked (immovable lasts for way too short a period of time, and fossilize/fear can't be prevented any other way. Potions aren't really the answer either).
    * Stamina builds getting stronger and stronger compared to magicka builds.
    * Fights are less fair since differences in how many CPs players have will matter more and more

No new content in PvP - I hardly think Imperial City will be more than a bit of a novelty for the first week or two

Too few campaigns to find interesting fights (no, I don't care about who gets the former emp passives these days, I just want good pvp!)
No campaigns with limits to how many CP a character can have *assigned* in order to play there (that is different from the potential CP a character could have assigned)

Small groups will not have the tools they used to have / the tools they need for combating bigger groups -> zergs -> boring

PvP in ESO got me so frustrated that i went back to gw2 lately. And by dark gods was i surprised. Smooth running servers, skills working, weapon swapping also but what was most important for me i had a chance to do something. No 1 sec death from invisible enemy that i can see only after i died. Gw2 has its own set of problems but at least its working.

So it is possible to design and build a working pvp system, and i hope one day ZOS will find a way. Despite my absolute despise for pve side of the game, i still have a hope for pvp side. Time will tell.

The game was advertised with massive PvP battles. And I believe that ZoS expected that a lot of people will participate in PvP. If you remember they opened 10 campaigns at launch with higher population cap than whet we have right now on each campaign. But probably their expectations were wrong and less people played PvP. They closed 6 campaigns and reduced the population cap. Right now it is not profitable for them to allocate any resources for PvP development as they will not return their money. They always state that they monitor the server performance and etc, but I guess they monitor that 90% percent of the players play PvE the rest PvP and the profit wont be high from the PvP player base. Sadly, the future is not bright for the PvPers.

I don't see the problem a year isn't a long times eso has some of the best pvp a mmorpg had ever offered game needs a few fixes the lag/exploits is a few and if people spec right into the champ system ttk is alot better nirnhoned needs a small adjustment nothing major and if zos would add a pvp arena in imperial city with 1v1 all the way upwards to 10v10 with a ranking system the game would see alot more players then the zergers and zerg the people that don't want to zerg can arena and with the population steady falling I highly recommend zos added interfaction dueling because people would be alot less bored when they can fight there friends with out riding years to die across a 1 sided map

I will most likely check this out when it releases, but I can see a lot of problems that this game is going to have down the road already, for one it will have a sub fee, I support subs in games so it is no big deal to me, but it is the devil to a lot of players, regular shards, always a problem with lack of population server merges which are dirty words in the mmo world, and it will have it's own problems like ESO has had with the mega server, just don't go to the game expecting lollipops and rainbows, there will be many bumps in the road. I watched the Alpha footage, still has a long way to go.

It is not just pvp in ESO that needs attention all this on hold until the consoles come out there is even a decline in pve performance and just seems like more and more things are broken while we wait, thank the maker console release is now less than a week away,

The game is still attracting new players while it sheds those that have been with the game for 6+ months which are now bitter because of missed expectations. ZOS is well aware of this and that they're not going to unwind in 6 months what they spent several years creating.

Because ZOS continues to improve the game balance and content, albeit slloooowwwly these waves of new players that jump-in will eventually stick around longer, but not for too long as that's the nature of the business. Most of those currently speaking on the forums will probably not be around 1 year from now.

If ZOS was not continuing to invest in their game, release new content etc... I would be concerned about more downward direction vs. the sideways and sometimes upward they have been heading. No, it is nowhere as populated as it was after launch. Maybe 2/8 of that size at best.

It would be interesting to hear what other guilds are playing now since they've left. I cannot think of any other MMORPG game as entertaining as this one for me. So those guilds have different tastes and expectations I suppose.

With current state it's leading to deserted Cyro. Every day you can hear someone camplaining or raging about lag, exploits, skills not working, bugs and so on. Eventually players will have enough and leave, it's not like it's only MMO out there, sure it's entertaining and beautifull, but for PvPers it's the quality of game mechanics is what matters first.
Personally I'm waiting without hope for imperial city, and I'll see what it brings, but tbh I doubt it will change much, since to make game as it's supposed to be ZOS needs to make drastic changes.
