Will tanking get better?

Agreed, tanking is more of an annoyance in this game, pvp and pve alike. Its hard to target in this game because of the stuck cursor in the center rotating tab target is damn near impossible the taunts only last upwards of 14 seconds and some bosses dont even take some taunts (i.e. mephala in fungal grotto can only be taunted by ranged taunt or she runs willy nilly over the nether regions of your heals/dps).
And thats not even entering into pvp tanking which was gang *** and curb stomped into submission with 1.6...

Soooo yea, Im a tank and its more annoying than any other game Ive played.... and I dont like the dps roles or healing in this game. *shrug* win some you lose some.

The OP is writing about concerns with tanning on a lvl 12 character. In most any game at lvl 12 every character has limited tools and eso is not different. Especially with a dk tank which has great cc, shields and a great self heal. Even with vet dsa nerfed as it is, it's fun tanking on a dk and having control of everything.

But at level 12 you have nothing but pierce armor.

tanking at lvl 12 is not a good indication of tanking. i've tanked lowbie dungeons in cloth with 1h/shield.

it does get "better" as you level. at veteran levels a good tank is noticeable in both how they can grab mobs and take less damage. tanks take far less damage than anything in leather or cloth, that's for sure. even when not blocking.

i find tanking fun in this game. i don't find holding aggro a challenge. getting aggro on large trash mobs is a challenge but not holding it. i find the fun in tanking in positioning, resource management and being able to setup good kill.

You will get better options for keeping threat, but the real difference will be when you get into groups that understand how to control their own threat.

Anything short of end game don't stress to much about it though, your job is only to get the attention of the heavy hitters in each group, and the boss. It is the job of the DPS to take care of the adds, just make sure they understand that adds are always priority. The only time things will get tense is when everyone focuses the boss and adds build up inevitably taking out the healer.

I'd agree with a lot of others in that at lvl 12, your options are pretty limited. Usually, you would have 1H+S on both bars, with one bar having Puncture and the other Inner Fire. Of course, you only unlock weapon swap at lvl 15, so there's that.

I find that with those two taunts, I can control a group pretty well by just taunting close or grabbing from afar. If I lose a taunt, it's no biggie, I just range them and they come right back. Just make sure you don't over taunt!

For CC, don't forget that Volcanic Rune, morph of Fire Rune in the Mage's Guild line, is great. The AoE is small compared to Talons, but it throws enemies in the air and stuns for 4 seconds, plus it is range castable. It's kind of a big resource drain to be running both CC's, but the option is there to try out. Plus, for Templars, Rune is essentially the only option anyway.

Try not to get frustrated with tanking. With ESO the only certainty will be that you will lose boss agro when tanking. The key is to be able to consistently get it back. As you level up it will get easier with other spells to help gain agro. In addition to puncture, grab Inner Fire from the Undaunted skill line. This is a great addition to help with tanking.

I would defiantly wait till you level up more to make a solid opinion of tanking. At those levels, you don't have the capability to control much in fights. I love the role and I find it easy, but some people take it for granted. A tank is needed just as much as DPS or Healer.
