A suggestion for guilds recruiting

Ellorienne
What if guilds could recruit with a function like the group function? Players looking for a guild could open a page at the press of a button to find a guild who is recruiting. The page could list important details, like number of members, whether they have a bank/store/kiosk, and what their basic rules and purpose are. Then players looking for a guild could simply click a button to apply to a guild. Guilds, in turn, could specify conditions that players have to meet in order to apply, such as a certain character level, pvp rank etc. If the player doesn't meet those criteria, the guild will not show in their list.

I was reading more contention on the issue of a guild based trade system, and I myself am only part of 2 small guilds. I would like to be a part of a larger trading guild, but finding one is not easy, nor is there a good way to compare them.

I support this idea. Ideally the system would be something where the guildmaster opts in (every guild is opted out by default) to be put in the "recruiting" list.

Before the guild is put in the list, the guildmaster is presented with a form to fill out with fields for listing the guild's purpose, whether it's PVE or PVP or trade or RP (make these check boxes so you can select as many as apply), basic rules, criteria for recruits, a link for a guild website (if applicable), whether the guild is cross-faction, etc. Certain pieces of info would be filled out automatically by the system (number of members, whether there is a guild bank, whether there is a guild store, whether there is a guild trader and the location, what permissions the different ranks have, etc)

When this happens, anyone doing a search for guilds can either just hit "search" to find all recruiting guilds, or they can narrow the search down by specifying which faction, PVE or PVP or trade or RP, whether there's a guild bank or store or trader, or search by name.

When the player finds a guild they're interested in, as you suggest they click an "apply" button (beside a text field where they can write a little introduction if they feel like it, and maybe say why they're interested in joining the guild), and a notification is sent to the GM and/or officer(s) of the guild (make this configurable in the guild rank permissions, so that the GM can choose who gets these notifications). The person who gets the notification can then either accept it, reject it, or send a mail back to the player to talk about any other requirements they might have (like signing up on a guild website, or whatever).

I think something like this would be awesome.

We kind of already have that.

Guilds tend to have more requirements than a group does. A group is very temporary, a guild can be temporary, but can also be long term.

Some requirements are stuff outside of the game itself, like age and gender.

Good established guilds tend to have a process to join, to keep the undesirables out. Like my guild requires an age of 25+, sure it's easy to lie about age, but there is also a process before you even get a chance to join the in game guild.

Those rely on people using the forums, though, and only a relatively small percentage of people who play any game will use that game's forums.

True, but that's why an in-game system should have a free-format field where the GM can list those requirements, and why the application process can be facilitated by the game, but doesn't have to take place entirely through this interface. That's why in my reply to OP I suggested a field where a prospective applicant can type whatever they want (they can mention that they filled out an application on the guild website if applicable, or otherwise talk about why they want to join the guild and whether they meet the outside of the game requirements), and why I suggested that those receiving the application have an "accept" option, a "reject" option, and a "send mail back" option to enable them to have a discussion about the requirements/rules.

Sure use, but read? I get enough people finding my guild's recruitment thread without having a single post in here. There's even some that their only post is in my recruitment thread.

Just a suggestion, but you could try to identify which guilds you want to join by visiting the vendors. Check out their inventory, which should be extensive and varied as to item levels and scope of items. Also, do they consistently have a shop somewhere. Then, ask in chat for an invite to the guild. Of course, this is a total crap shoot. But my guilds always have people online, and during prime time, there can be several hundred on. Also, keep an eye on chat, as even top guilds prune deadwood, and then recruit, often in chat. I found several guilds like this. And keep in mind, it only takes a few clicks to leave a guild if try one, and it doesn't work out. I've done this a few times too.

There is an entire forum for such not to mention people tend to use /z chat for all types of guild and group recruiting
