Solo Templar builds?

Even though this is an MMO, I always prefer the solo aspect of the game, and only group when absolute necessary. Looking for something that will work well in PVE and PVP.

Currently I am VR4, and am Destro/Resto spec. I was thinking of respecing out of resto staff since I rarely use it, and it is a PITA to level.

I'm Breton, so I'd like to stick with light armor. Debating if I should go Destruction/Bow. Do they compliment each other well? I love having AE spells like impulse.

Biting jabs, reflective light, impulse, blazing shield, breath of life, binding javelin. Any combination of these skills and you can pretty much faceroll most solo content as a templar.

I would caution you if you're considering a hybrid build, as speccing/glyphing for both magicka and stamina (to support destro/bow) will just end up gimping your total damage output. Better to focus on one. There are viable alternatives to most of the skills listen above in the bow line, such as the AOE/dots offered by scorched earth and acid spray. It's all a matter of what you prefer. Breath of life should always be on your bar, however.

Forgot about the stam/magicka build issues I would have.

Bow shouldn't compliment Destro staff much, they are both ranged weapons, they are different approaches to the same style.

Pick either a bow or destro staff and use a melee weapon for your other skill bar.

One hand and shield gives best defense, but limited offense.
Dual wield is the other way around.
Two handed I haven't tried, but there are people who swear by their two handed Templar.

    Wizard's tenth rule

Thanks for the feedback. I really prefer playing a ranged type role. Not too big into melee as my dps. I guess considering all the facts I would be best to just stick with Restoration Staff as my 2nd weapon type. I don't have any issues really in PVE. I plow through dungeons and quests without an issue. Just didn't know how viable a solo AE PVE spec templar would work in RVR lol.

Guess once I hit VR14 and go into RVR mode full time I'll reevaluate then. Thanks so much for everyone's help.

Hmm here is my templar build:
    (lightarmor only)
    5 pieces seducer
5 pieces warlock (if I didn't have warlock, I would use some crafted set that would boost my weapon damage)
Restoration staff & whatever other weapon I am training (I want to lvl all weapons and morphs of everything on my templar!)

The thing is, templars quickly run out of magicka, so it's good to have a resto staff to just hit heavy attacks with and gain magicka from.

    Skillbar:
1 Puncturing Sweep (the other version of Biting Jabs, the one that heals you for 40% of damage done)
2 Blazing Spear - it's good since it stuns one enemy in a mob, gives AoE over time, so I can finish mobs off quicker when I throw a spear and then use Puncturing Sweep.
3 Total Dark - because it is just fun to throw a bubble around sorcerer enemies, and watch them kill themselves xD it always makes me giggle ^^
4 Blazing Shield - because it gives a shield for 30% of your max health (therefore it is good to be tanky), and returns 58% of damage back to your enemy when it explodes.
5 Breath of Life - it saves you from the >> Oh-Crap-I-Am-About-To-Waste-Another-Soulgem-Situation. Not really needed against most foes, since you heal enough with Puncturing Sweep.
Ultimate - I use flawless dawnbreaker just to boost my puncturing sweep.

Puncturing Sweep/ Biting Jabs are magicka based, but buffed by weapon damage, so since this AoE skill is the best and fastest way for a templar to kill, it may pay off to use weapon damage glyphs on your jewelry. Since I am a healer, when I do group content, I have 2 spell damage glyphs and only 1 weapon damage glyph on my jewelry...

THE most easy solo build as a templar is to go SnB, and pick these abilities:
    - Blazing spear
    - Puncturing sweep
    - Invasion/Shielded assault
    - Blazing shield
    - Vampires bane (Or Reflective light if you like AoE)

For bar 2 pick a resto staff and make a healing bar with some buffs in it. Such a set-up is guaranteed godmode for solo play leveling up.
