Block drops randomly

Hello,
in Cyrodiil I often find my block animation stopping as if I had released the right mouse button. Despite of me holding block at full stamina.

Apparently, if an enemy uses shadow cloak, I magically drop block as if releasing the right mouse button. The test:

In Coldharbour you'll find Dremora Kynlurkers. Fight them and hold block firmly - they use shadow cloak and suddenly block drops!

Bug or intended? Are there other abilities that drop block? I`m beginner, so be patient if this is some general mechanic I`m missing. I tested this for fifteen minutes on different Daedra, and only Shadow Cloak seemed to stop me holding up block.

Wow, nice find. We were discussing in guild about this today, because we did duels and lots of stuff versus nightblades went through block. Great find, really, thank you.

I know that the NPC Nightblades can get you to drop block when they do teleport strike, but idk about in PVP.

honestly, it would be nice if this was true. way to many people just block and spam these days; it would be nice to beat the crap out of them for a change.

but if its a bug, it must be fixed.

Agreed 100%.

The last thing we need is NBs getting used to an exploit of their own and then feeling "nerfed" when the bug is fixed.

I wonder if it has something to do w/ the recent change in 1.4.3 that makes it so boss-type mobs are no longer stunned when you cloak. Pure speculation. : P

I've had my block dropping constantly (like 75% of the time) in all situations since prerelease, really irritating when your tanking group stuff, I press block to take a heavy attack of a boss or something, and most of the times my char will raise its shield for half a sec and drop it directly, when holding block, so I have to release and repress block and hope it holds
thats why I dropped tank role, impossible atm

This might be a problem with your right mouse button. I have the same problem with my shield dropping; however, in a different game, I have the exact same problem with my shield dropping, and in that game, when I used a different mouse button instead of the right mouse button, the shield stayed up. So I am buying a new mouse.

Hes talking about mobs, not other players in PvP.

Hey everyone. Based on the details provided in your reports here, we've just tested this internally and are not seeing any block dropping being caused by Shadow Cloak (or its morphs), nor by the stealth abilities of the Dremora Kynlurkers (NPCs mentioned in the OP).

As a follow-up question to anyone who's been experiencing this, do you have any additional details you can provide about what you're seeing? Also, are you experiencing your active block being dropped in any other situations than the ones mentioned in this thread, despite your character having enough Stamina to continue blocking?

I've noticed that my friend who plays a Nightblade drops his block when Healing Breath and other Templar heals touch him.

Zos, this will surely help you to discover this issue's root: Not only drop the Dark Cloaks block that is held up (in some cases), it even caused me unsheathe my weapon automatically a time during battle.

If you like I can provide video material. Low quality though. Right mouse button is pressed, unless of course when I need to get block back up again.

The issue with dropping block with healing spells is as follows:

1. It seems contained to the Mac Client. Another player and I both have the problem on a Mac, but not on a PC. (Templar and Nightblade)
2. It occurs with no Add-Ons running.
3. Combat Prayer causes block drop at all times.
4. Breath of Life causes block drop only while in combat.

I have my block drop all the time in cyorodiil. I notice this most when toggling off Power Overload, I hold block right after pressing the 'R' Key to toggle ult and the power overload toggles but my block isn't held even though the right mouse button is held. It invariably leads to me getting knocked down.

This happens all the time in cyrodiil to other abilities as well. It appears almost as if when you queue separate commands the second one gets lost.

Have been experiencing this block problem too on Mac.
I have no problem with block while playing from home (PC), but on my laptop (Mac) block drops all the time, at least in PvP.

Any damage taken drops it, any healing taken drops it, and any skill casted while blocking drops it.
If someone is attacking me, I won't be able to block at all. Maybe just the first second before it completely drops and pressing block doesn't work anymore.

I have found just blocking and then I am attacked and block is removed. It makes 1vX very hard for me..

Of course it's for mac... I need an upgrade happens to me on my DK all the time. I don't even use a mac mouse

Don't think it's related to the mouse, tested it with a Logitech and Razer Naga, same results. But yeah, it's definitely a Mac bug.

My Friend who plays a Dragonknight has reported this repeatedly, to the point that he has had to give up tanking entirely for the moment. This happened to him (to my knowledge) in Sanctum while fighting the Mantikora Boss, with no obvious hardware or software issues.

Huh. I thought it was just me, the one unlucky random guy with a buggy mouse. Bought a new mouse. Tried rebinding block to EVERY other possible key. Still broken, at 100% stamina.

The issue is not confined to shadow cloak for Mac users:

1. Hold block
2. Activate ability/Buff/take a DOT
3. When buff/ability/DOT or any other character effect is taken off your toon, block breaks and your shield drops, no matter what.

Healing springs, breath of life, rapid mending, evasion, green dragon blood, harness magicka, immovable, hardened ward, absorb magic, healing ward, you name it, they all make blocking impossible.

Not to mention the fact that any DOT ability placed on you breaks block at EVERY tick of the DOT... This makes PvP feel like a nightmare (thanks for buffing poison arrow and snipe by the way, haven't been in PvP since ), and gives you the impression that everyone else is somehow exploiting. Normally, I wouldn't complain, but Mac users paid their $90 or whatever like everyone else, and continuing to disenfranchise then and treat them like the ugly stepchild certainly won't earn you MORE subs.

It's amazing that I've been able to do all the no death achievements and tank AA/DSA to completion, and makes me so frustrated I could punch babies.

Makes the end game LITERALLY unplayable. This has been broken for Mac users since beta, but I have kept the faith and continued give you guys money and continued to pray that someone at ZOS on the Mac side of things was doing their job, which is obviously NOT the case.

Really bad form and completely unacceptable that a problem this big has gone on this long.

Sounds like a very good bug, all it needs is tweaking it a little, so there would be no casting while holding block at all. Welcome to stamina build world...

Thanks to the additional information you all have provided, we’ve identified a number of abilities that cause block to drop while playing on the Mac client. We will be performing additional testing to identify fixes for these and will provide an update as soon as we know when those fixes will go live. In the meantime, if you notice any abilities besides the ones listed so far in this thread that are also causing block to drop while playing on a Mac, please post to let us know.

On a related note, if anyone is noticing these issues on the PC client, please let us know that, too. Thank you!
