BROKEN BLOCK FUNCTIONALITY[DEV's Please Respond]

Longtime DPS, picking up taking.

Tanking both AA/Hel Ra... Keep dying.

The cause? Pressing right click only SOMETIMES brings up your shield, requiring me to press and release RMB in order to cause the block to actually toggle. When i get lucky and the block actually works, it intermittently drops, while still holding RMB, causing me to die and the entire group to wipe.

After some digging, i've discovered that this has been an issue for Mac users since june.

How do you think this is even remotely acceptable? The game only has FOUR main functions: block, attack, heal, dodge. When one of these core functions is broken, the game is unplayable, and i'm going to cancel my subscription because i'd rather spend my money on another game and save myself the frustration of playing a broken game.

Your stamina goes down a bit if you are hit while blocking. You can't block forever. I don't think you can block without any stamina left. I've been in many groups and have seen people be great at tanking. I think this is just a learn to play thing.

Nonsense argonian. If something doesnt work, I can't be the players fault for not understanding basic mechanics, it has to be the game that's "broken"...

OP, have you tried glue to fix it?

Dude post this under the bug customer support section. Everytime I did that I actually got a response in like an hour or so. And there has been a thread about block and npcs or nbs casting dark cloak and it seemed all were mac userz.

Welka and ThatArgonainGuy, maybe everyone you interact with on a daily basis is stupid enough to overlook their stamina bar, but I certainly am not one of those people and would not have bothered to make a forum post had my stamina been completely empty. The block function is buggy at best, and block randomly drops no matter what percentage of stamina I have.

I have a quite thorough understanding of endgame mechanics, and this is a situation in which the mechanic broken. The problem is known among Mac users, and has been since JUNE. I am asking a developer for input as to whether a fix is in the works or if they've even bothered to acknowledge that they're attempting or even willing to fix it.

Sadly a number of people do post about blocking with no stamina.

I also have a buggy block, it sometimes opens up a randomly selected menu, often inventory or skills. Although it has been happening less recently for me.

One "solution" I've read seen zenimax suggest is to use a simple two button mouse.

I really hope this is some troll or joke on zenis part. Just TRY going to the store and buying a mouse with ONLY two buttons and call me when you find one. Yeah I won't hold my breath

There's currently a possible bug which seems to be effecting Mac users, that causes block to drop at certain times, mostly when receiving heals or buffs.

op i am a mac user and have this happen to me all the time. the only fix i have been able to find for this (with absolutely no help from worthless ZoS) is to key bind block to my caps lock key. seems to have fixed it.

Easiest course of action? Uninstall the game and unsub. worked great for me.

Block works just fine. It's players who can't use it properly that's broken.

Use block when you get attacked. Don't keep pressing it....you drain stamina and low stamina = no block. It sorts the bad from the good players.

I tank just fine. The damn stamina buffs lately made me switch around some stamina reduction abilities. I had to many.

Any tank who don't have reduce block cost on any gear = not a tank.
Gear and effects does not make a player. But since a tank blocks pretty much constantly. (not holding down....but block on an attack).
Reducing block cost simply is WAY to huge to not have.

I see very few interupts from most pugs I join dungeons for.
Block and interupt is the most powerful skills in the game....but requires a lot from the player.

I am interested to see IF Zenimax fix block 360 and makes it 180.
Might be big surprise for some who just hold block, whenever. :-p

That proves that the problem you had, is your side. If a simple keybind solved it.

I have the same issue with block... especially in lag. And yes i'm on a mac. I'll hold right mouse button and sometimes, even while im still holding the button, my shield will stop blocking. Even when i hold the right mouse button with all my might the shield will stop blocking lol....

Weird. I tried binding it in several keys but shield kept dropping.
Lucky for me I only play Mac when I'm on the road, otherwise I use PC. Can only feel the pain for people who can only play on Mac.

This is no bad graphics problem, fps problem, overheating problem, sound bugs, etc. I think anyone who plays on a Mac is aware of that and can deal with it.
This is a main game's mechanic not working.
Read the OP a bit more careful. Read other posts about the same problem.
This is a bug that won't let you block at all.
And since the game is out on Mac and this is not any cross-platform gaming, this bug needs to be fixed asap.

That proves that the problem you had, is your side. If a simple keybind solved it.

i think you might of just been overwhelmed by the length of the read and gotten some things confused. the ONLY way to get my block to stay up. i repeat, the ONLY way to get my block to not drop is by keybinding it ONLY to my caps lock key. what that means, is block does not work for ALL 77 of my other keys.

so.......how can it NOT be broken?

ALso confirming that block do drop for me with more than enough stamina left.

In the meantime, my fix is to keybind block to / in addition to RMB. Hope this gets fix.

This has been a very annoying issue for me as well. It's hard in vet dungeons but I can get around it by paying close attention and re-pressing the block button.

But in PVP (especially duelling) or Dragonstar Arena, this just plain kills you 50% of the time.

I'll admit, since the whole concept of having more than a single mouse button is relatively new to apple, and since one of the other posters mentioned that apparently remapping block to his caps lock key fixed it, my *assumption* is that the RMB functionality on Macs isn't truely a "native" mouse button press, and is implemented as some sort of work around. Perhaps as a keypress with some sort of autorepeat functionality, or some sort of "2 key limit" or maybe, under the hood, it's still really just a macroed ctrl + left click workaround from when apple didn't actually do multi-button mice.

So sorry, if remapping to something like caps lock can fix it then yes, I'm sorry, it sounds like a (mac) hardware problem to me.

Its a matter of what people prefer and enjoy. Money vs reliability in my case. I can't afford both a mac for general use and pc for gaming so I chose a mac laptop for its battery life, reliability, and physical toughness.

But yes, if all I ever really wanted to do on my computer is mainly gaming, then I would be having a PC desktop.

I'm just going to write that I have tanked since 1.3 and don't have an issue with this.

OP, if more people are having this issue on Mac than just yourself, then it is probably more parsimonious to say that this is a problem with the game.

That being said, are you positive that your mouse isn't responsible for the issue by losing it's connection to Mac?
