Fatback, Baker's Flour, Glace Viande - any suggestions where?

These don't drop in VR zones from what I can see or maybe I'm not at the right one? I went to Coldharbor but the drop rate is horrible, barely anything after 2 days.

Would I have better luck in Cyrodiil and if so where? I have AD and DC veteran characters.

EDIT - clarifying asking info about farming locations, not the Grocers, which is already well documented.

Compiled Farming Information:
  • Normal Zones: final zones of Alliances - Reaper's March, The Rift, Bankgorai (personally not checked how good the drop rate is)
  • Coldharbor - poor drop rate
  • VR Zones: 4th(?) and 5th zones. Early zones drop rate is very poor because loot table is shared with low level materials (not personally checked the drop rates)
  • Cyrodiil(A) - entrance Gates, switching between Home campaign and Guest campaign. OK drop rates.
  • Cyrodiil(B) - loot containers while using the quest hubs. Running in & out of the towns will reset the containers, not every time but frequent enough. Any containers along the way outside of towns and in dungeons you come across. OK drop rates and keeps you from getting frustrated. :)

They do drop in VR zones, I see them regularly. Just a matter of RNG. Go to places with lots of crates and barrels, you should find some eventually.

Well then let me give some more details. 5 days "ransacking" in VR Stonefalls and Deshaan and not a single drop of these items. I have nearly filled up the guild bank with provisioning mats.

They don't drop all that frequently, but I see all three fairly often in just about all VR zones I've been through, which in my case is everywhere except for Bangkorai. I'm not sure about fatback as I never made any recipes that use it, but I can say for sure that the best source for baker's flour and glace viande is NPC grocers in VR zones and Coldharbour.

They started dropping for me once I hit my last zone before Cold Harbour. I'm not using them ATM, and I have a stash banked, so I don't collect them. But I still see them in VR containers, pretty much across Tamriel. You may have a bug, or more likely a streak of bad luck.....like this fish I'm trying to catch :) .

Don't know why the sudden uptick in these posts. Every recipe has one item that can be bought from level dependent npc grocers. The drop rate for those items is low. All 3 items the OP listed are grocer items.

They are not grocer exclusive items. The ones labeled 'imperial' are grocer only.

I'm getting some in Cyrodiil but haven't gotten far in exploring the area. One person suggests Reaper's March for AD but someone else tells me there aren't many. I have a lead at least.

The same zone that the grocer that sells the item is in is the zone where you will loot said item. And yes, Imperial items are Coldharbour grocer only.

I find them in Cyrodiil, Craglorn and Coldharbour. Not terribly often, the main ingredients for that tier and ingredients for the tier below probably drop at a 5 to 1 or worse ratio.

Also, stay away from early VR sections - Auridon, Glenumbra or Stonefalls respectively, the drop rate in those areas favors first ingredients and "normal" ingredients for those zones: thin broths, meal... Etc are everywhere. I've found it's not worth opening crates and barrels until you've hit the 4th and 5th zones for an alliance.

OP scroll down to "Grocer NPC locations" here:

    http://tamrieljournal.com/eso-provisioning-ingredients/

and also look closely at the table right above that.

You are better off buying than trying to loot. I used to buy glace viande from the grocer in coldharbour when i was sub 50, and just bought imperial flour from Black-Silk-Earth in Davon's watch. So unknown poster seems to be either mistaken or is in a different faction than me, as a vet AD player I can definitely buy imperial flour in stonefalls.

Go to Cyro, your faction's home base, and loot every barrel you can find. You'll find them. Also the lvl 40 zones (Rift, Bangkorai, Reapers March) has them. This is assuming you have the patience to loot barrels instead of frittering away gold.

I know about the grocers, maybe I should have mentioned that right away. I wanted to discuss drop locations here. Anyways, after spending quite a few hours in Cyrodiil I ended up with enough skyshards to max out Food part of provisioning. The drop rate there isn't that great either but the place is huge so maybe more possibilities.

I decided I'll live with what drops I get and visit the Grocer's for the rest. I'll just figure in that I have to spend some gold on food every now and then. I'm sure by the time I reach the 4th and 5th VR zones they will have rolled out their provisioning revamp. Will have to wait and see what they finally do to provisioning.

The grocer in the last zone of mages guild questline sells imperial stuff but not sure if all of them (definitely the ones required for VR5 purple food). Also I found glace viande in Bangkorai my final zone before VR just yesterday and I have stacks of the others too but don't remember where so they must be in Alik'r desert too I suppose. I din't buy them that's sure.

Guild Vendors. I bought 100 mudcrab for 900g not long ago, and 100 honeycomb for 1000g last night.

I can go to the good grocers, but 9g - 10g is cheap.

Your not going to have much success farming for food mats in Coldharbor. Molag Bal does not think people need food.

In all seriousness, I think Coldharbor is the worst place to farm for food, but one of the best for Ores.

There is a good grocer there, across from the bank.

Bakers flour is available from grocers, I have bought it from the one opposite the bank in Hollow City (it's inside the shop). Presumably Fat Back is the same.

Not sure about Glace Viande, I don't use it, but I have gotten it from crates in Hollow City and the two area's before. Now presumably it's still there in your original faction area's (the ones before Cadwell's silver or Cadwell's Gold) and possibly from the grocers.

Edit Ithink the AD zone is Reaper's March, not sure about DC area.

The DC area is Bangkorai, EB equivalent would be the Rift. I pulled all of these out of containers in Reaper's March yesterday. Granted, only a few of them, but they are there. That zone is Caldwell Silver for me. Like I said earlier, these should all start dropping for you just before Cold Harbour. Just a matter of RNG.

Your not going to have much success farming for food mats in Cyrodill.

I disagree strongly with this. Go to your home campaign in Cyrodiil and search every container at both of your faction's gates. Join your guest campaign and repeat the search process for both gates. Rejoin your Home campaign and do it all over again as the containers reset each time you enter a campaign and you never need to leave the safety of your home gates.

You will be swimming in all of these food mats in almost no time. Cyrodiil is the best place to farm food items for the level 40+ recipes.

I meant Coldharbor, not sure why I typed out Cyrodill....

The only issue with farming Cyrodill is how far you have to go between towns. The keeps don't seem to have as many containers as other keeps and castles do in the leveling zones.

You don't farm the keeps or the towns in Cyrodiil. You farm the containers at the two gates, like the Eastern Elsweyr Gate and the Western Elsewyr Gate. Search one gate area; transitus to the other and search it; switch campaigns and repeat. Anyone who farms the keeps or towns in Cyrodiil is doing it wrong and is wasting a lot of time.

Great suggestions here, but I have to reiterate: anyone worth his salt knows about the Grocers. Stop mentioning the Grocers. There are lists easily googled about the Grocers.

The discussion I was hoping to have was about farming this loot.

The ingredients you are looking for are all tier 5 ingredients and should drop from containers in the final non-veteran zone in each alliance (Reaper's March for AD, The Rift for EP, and Bangkorai for DC) as well as Coldharbour and Cyrodiil. It will also have a chance of dropping in any veteran zones for your faction.

The problem is that the loot tables for ingredient drops is bizarre. In veteran zones you not only have a chance of finding tier 5 and 6 ingredients, but you also have a chance of finding the ingredients that you would expect to find in the non-veteran versions of any given zone. For example, my main is an Aldmeri Dominion character, so for me Glenumbra is a VR6 zone. In the containers in Glenumbra I find tier 5, tier 6, and tier 1 ingredients. The ingredients drop, but they just are not as common because the possible list of ingredients you can get from any given container is fairly extensive.

In the containers in Glenumbra I find tier 5, tier 6, and tier 1 ingredients.

I think the Bags and Sacks have the best chance of Tier 1, or maybe it's all Tier one from Bags and Sacks. Where it's the crates and barrels that give the upper tier ingredients. There might be some RNG variance in there.

It seems that way anyway when I am farming, but I am not entirely sure as I go through the game what is Tier 5 and what is Tier 1. I am not the best observer of the tiers and only lately have I been farming provisioning again. Finding Purple recipes will do that.....

Now I just have to put some points back into Provisioning on my Provisioner...

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

The type of container doesn't matter... I get high level ingredients like red wheat and pepper just as often from sacks as I do from crates or barrels or cabinets, etc. The addon called 'Sous chef' is a huge help until you learn what ingredients you need for the recipes you want to craft.

I've been regularly finding/farming these 3 ingredients in the last two Vet "Silver" zones - for me that's Alik'r and Bangkorai. Delves are a good spot to get these.
