Third point in hireling a waste?

It seems like a real pain to log in twice a day and 12 hours apart from getting resources. You'd have to log in fairly early in the morning to collect and then again at night. Should I just skip the third point? I can't see myself utilizing that second delivery much at all. Are there any other benefits other than twice a day?

NOT getting 3 point in hireling is a huge waste.

Just like not looking what Hirelings is.....its not research.

I have never understood the need to log in as soon as the hireling emails arrive. The mail ques up. It will wait for you in your inbox. I don't log into my Mules who have L1 hirelings everyday. When I skip a day, I have two emails to open.

As for other benefits, yes, you get more mats, and you get more tempers and racial and traits. You also get a better chance to get Epic and Legendary tempers. I get around 5 mats an email from my L3 hirelings, so each day after work when I log in, I get a full stack of Raw mats to refine.

Hireling mail is not delivered until you log in. That delivery starts the timer for the next one, which is delivered (depending on your passive) ~12/24 hours later or when you next log in, whichever happens later. This means that if you're logged in 12 hours later, you get the mail. If not, you don't until the next time you log in. That delivery triggers the next timer, and so on. They don't pile up in your mailbox unless you log in and don't check your mail when the hireling mail arrives.

While the requirement to log in is simply stupid (we should get a mail every 12 hours, no matter what, until our mailbox is filled.. even if we drop dead of a massive coronary on the other side of the screen), the "extra and better" materials you get for the level 3 over the level 2 makes it worth it.

So, keep it at 3 points for increased chance of rare items, and more mats per delivery even if you can only log on once a day? That's the consensus?

In the past 33 days, I've received 62 alloys, 108 waxes, 63 rosins and 19 kutas.
So no, don't use 3/3 hirelings, they're definitely not worth the extra skillpoint.

I have received about the same with my 3/3 hirelings on 8 players... Yesterday alone, I received 2 Kutas, 4 Wax, 2 Rosin and 2 alloys... I dont remember the purples I got, but there were a lot. I do remember one getting 4 solvent. This was getting emails at 7 am, and about 8pm last night.

Yeah, most of us are in total agreement with you on that one. I'd be okay with them not accumulating beyond the one day, but you should get both of the one day when you log in once on that day, if the 12hour increments have elapsed.

I have received 4 Kuta's since Thursday evening, the rest a mix of white to purple. Now, for about 3 weeks, I would get one Kuta a week, a good number of purple and blue, 3 to 4 a week of each, and the rest Green/TAs.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I have 3/3 on all 8 players... In the past two days alone, I have received 4 Kuta, 8 wax, 4 alloys and 6 rosin... This doesnt include dozens of purples and rare provisioning mats... I also added a few Golds by refining the raw materials from the hirelings. So 3/3 rocks for me...

The system for email hirelings is fine. If they were allowed to accumulate on a players account you'd have a zillion taking up valuable server space within a week.

You want something for nothing then at least log. The complaints about "rare" mats are bad enough considering they all can be had if somebody goes out and looks for them or refines raw ores etc. If you want something you need to work for it here as well as in RL.

NOT PROVISIONING, the rare mats there can ONLY be got from hirelings, and some of us just have never got any of them.

Yep, sorry. Forgot to note the exceptions of the infamous oats and tomatoes. But even these can be worked around if you get the VR5 recipe that uses pepper instead.

If you have just your main player that gets hirelings... I could see it taking a long time before you get good mats. Like provisioning rare items... The key is to get as many players on your account to receive hirelings. I have 8/8 players all set at 3/3 hirelings for all 5 crafting skills. I could have 7/8 give me garbage... but that 8th player yield me 5 oats like the other day. Sometimes when I am lucky, I can get 3 or 4 players get rare provisioning items... I have a lot of all three now, and I just made 1600 VR5 food with them last week with a lot left over.

That said, I know some people argue that you shouldn't use 3/3 hirelings, hence the title of this thread. But I argue that it is worth it. I have been throwing out numbers out of memory, but I decided to log it. Here is just what I got last night on my 2nd of the day hirelings delivery.

    Blacksmith \Alloy - 1
    Blacksmith\Solvent - 0
    Cloth\Wax - 4
    Cloth\Lining - 4
    Enchanting\Kuta - 2
    Enchanting\Rekuta - 2
    Provisioning \Pepper - 4
    Provisioning\Oats - 0
    Provisioning\Tomato - 0
    Woodworking\Rosin -1
    Woodworking\Mastic - 4

This doesn't include the other valuable items like Blue mats and rare styles items. I just logged the top two tier mats.

As you can see, I got a nice session yielding 8 gold items and 10 purple items, plus 4 pepper. This was only one session, the one earlier in the day was about the same from my memory. The other thing is that with 8/8 with 3/3 hirelings, you get a ton of unrefined items. When I refine these, I get purples and golds too... so those are 'hidden' mats that you don't see in the hirelings emails...

It is a lot of work to level the 7 alts to get 3/3 hirelings on 8/8 players... but it has paid off for me. If I don't have time to check twice in one day... that is moot. Because if I do miss the 2nd, I don't have to wait 24 hours to receive hirelings. I can log on anytime after 12 hours and get the emails. So that alone pays off. I do log in and receive 2 hirelings at least 4 days a week... So that is at least 5 more emails from 8/8 players each week. If you look at what I got above, multiply that x5 and tell yourself it isn't worth it...

Also no one is saying queue up more than a days worth of mails. As I've stated it can be a pain to log in twice a day and 12 hours apart in order to get two mails in one day with 3/3 in hireling. As someone else said it would really be nice if both mails are queued for that day alone. Then you would have to log in the next day in order to queue the next deliveries like how it is now.

There have been other topics on this same thing where some have suggested letting them accumulate. And human nature being what it is you know darn well that if ZOS gave us one day then the clamor for 2 days would start, and on and on....

You don't have to log in twice a day to get the two emails. Just put the skill point into the third rank at a time that is during your normal playing time (most of us play around the same time each day because we work or go to school or whatever). Then you will get the first hireling email when you log in, then the second sometime during your play session.

You have to log in twice a day and more than 12 hours apart as it is now. I would imagine that is a problem for a lot of us which is why I'd like to see the second mail delivered as long as you log on once that day. You are spending a skill point to go 3/3. It would be nice to get it's benefit.

it is worth having the 3rd point in the hierling because of whats mentioned here. Even if you only get to log in and collect once every day as you have to wait exactly 12/24 hours + 1second to 1min+ before you can actually collect new mails. this means that over time the time when you can collect changes from day to day depending on when your able to collect.

On the other hand if you have 3 skill points and can get mail every 12 hours, then you dont have this problem when you collect once every day as you get it the first time you log in regardless of what time it is. and it wount create much problems for you the next day either.

Just to add more validation that 3/3 hirelings do get good mats.

Disclaimer: this is 8 players that have 5 hirelings at 3/3, not 1.

I started to log my 8/8 players that have 3/3 on all 5 crafts last Thursday. I started on my second message of the day Thursday, so I missed that morning to log...

So from Thursday Night until Sunday night I had 5 of 7 times I could get the messages. I missed two messages, Fri and Sat's second message. I didn't log rare style mats, or green and blue mats.

    The results:
    4 - Temp Alloys
    8 - Grain Solvent
    18 - Dreug Wax
    21 - Elegant lining
    7 - Kuta
    10 - Rekuta
    7- Rosin
    9 - Mastic
    14 - Pepper
    16 - Oats
    4 - Tomato

As you can see, after 5 messages for 8/8 players that have 3/3 on all 5 crafts, that is not a bad set of mats received. Some sessions were better than others... and this is only a four day sample. By my calculations, that is like ~130,000g worth of items.

So for those worried that having 3/3 lesson your chance for getting good mats, I think that is hooey... If you cant log on every 12 hours, so what. If you can log on every 16 hours....and sometimes get two a day like I do...it pays off.

If you only have one player that get hirelings, you can have many messages that are bad, so it can make it 'seem' like you are not getting what you should. Invest in having all your alts get hirelings...

I have 6 maxed crafting characters and get 30 mails every 12 hours. The third point is definitely worth it as I log in at all sorts of weird times during the day. I log in in the morning, take 5 minutes to cycle through the characters, log off and go to work. Come home that night and log on basically 12 hours later, have another slew of mails. Open em all on my provo storage char, chuck all the rest in the bank, log on my enchanting main, pull out the stones, log onto refining char and refine all the stuff. Anecdotally I get around 10-15 gold mats. I get probably a stack of dreugh wax every two weeks. Sell it and move on.

Thing is after looking at 1.5 on test, your low level crafting alts are useless if you want to do writs. How it works at the moment is that it looks at your crafting level, not your character level to decide what you need to craft for a writ. Doesn't matter where you pick up the writ, its going to be the same. A couple examples.

Have 50 BS on main char, but only 1/9 points in it. Writ requires you to make stuff with 9/9. So if you want to do writs to get craglorn survey maps, spend sp.

Have lvl 20 with 50 in provo and holds all my recipes. Max sp in provo. Can make the stuff to fulfill the writ, but has to deliver it to mages locus in Coldharbour. There are workarounds to getting to Coldharbour I know, such as porting to guildie, but if you haven't finished The Army of Meridia and restored Hollow City the locus isn't there. So get to grinding your alts up to at least past Molag bal. Since the only writs worth getting really are the Craglorn survey maps.

Pre-vet dropoff point for max level in crafting writs is Coldharbour. Post vet is Belkarth in Craglorn. Look to Belkarth becoming the new trade hub as most crafters will park their toons there for easy of turn-ins of the writs. Major pain to pick up writ in Rawl'kha for example, craft stuff, and deliver it to Belkarth.

Survey maps are able to be put in bank and picked up by other characters similar to treasure maps. They are classed as unique trophies, so only one at a time in bank or on a char.

The survey maps are well worth it. You find specially named nodes such as "Flawless" and "Pristine" which give 10-20 on each node. Cluster of 4-6 highest level nodes and one to two of the level just below it. The ones in upper crag also give nirncruxes, first one I got 4 cloth and 1 weapon/armor crux. Most people posting on test are finding the same.

Sorry for the long rant, and I know the OP was about just mails, but I figured I'd pass on the info.
